Gosh.
Playing cricket for Slaidburn was pretty lovely
Even though we had to pick sheep Poo off the square when we showed up.

Slaidburn is in Yorkshire. Always has been and always will be.

Well into Yorkshire. You dont meet the county boundary until the Rivers Hodder and Ribble join at Mitton Bridge which is many miles west of Gisburn. If I knew how I would post a photo of the bridge at Mitton with the Yorkshire/Lancashire inscriptions. What can’t speak can’t lie.

This merely reports the situation since local government reorganisation in 1974. Slaidburn lies within the historic West Riding of Yorkshire, alongside other places sequestrated against their wishes, like Barlick, Earby, Saddleworth etc.

Happy Lancashire day,may your whippet always be fertile,your tripe tasty,your black pudding moist, your beer frothy, your hotpot flavour some, and your flat cap comfortable.
Favourite places Trough of Bowland,Crook of Lune, Chatburn, the walks around Gorple reservoir, Pendle hill,Hambledon hill.
Barley though is a sh1t hole to many cars.

The path from the bottom of Ightenhill Park Lane to the Stepping Stones bridge.
Sit on the bench just below the farm gate and take in the view across the valley to Pendle Hill, stunning.

Used to sit on the benches on the Hard Platts looking across at Pendle and think if this was in the south my 2 bedroom terrace would be £100k. (Back in the 80s)

I have a couple of Melling prints of Pendle in the front room. They followed me All over the world when I was in the army, and no matter where I was, it was right there in my front room. I just love seeing it.

Barley may well be a bit crammed with cars these days, but I'd recommend it as a great base to park up for a leg stretch, or maybe exercise the dog. Take the deck chairs and enjoy a roadside picnic.
I'm amazed there aren't a few of those brown tourist roadsigns for Barley or Roughlee.

Actually Lancashire included Derbyshire at its height and of course Cumbria was split between Lancashire and Northumberland. Palestine Lancashire was equal to The Ridings of York in six and larger in power.

Exactly, but the likes of Oldham, Bolton still declare themselves as Lancashire, also where do LCC play, OT and Liverpool unless they play all their matches away from home

God, I miss those views as I look out at the flat suburban southern environment in which I now live. Also the views over Burnley and Cliviger from Deerplay. Time for a longer trip back home.
