Re: MATCH OFF.
Leisure, have you heard what the ref said as to why the game was called off? He was more bothered about the game constantly being interrupted to clear it, the players actually being safe during play and the safety around the ground. Covers wouldn’t have done anything. Under soil heating doesn’t work on the surface. It works in the subsoil layer
On the safety of others you can only think he’s spoken with safety officers on this.

Re: MATCH OFF.
I DO happen to know what the weather was like and we all know the game could have been delayed and gone ahead.
This was premature and it's hurt a lot of people.

Re: MATCH OFF.
You don’t need to be an expert on twitter to understand that no undersoil heating would prevent heavy snowfall common sense should tell you that. Nothing on the ground can prevent anything falling from the sky the best you can do is to cover to avoid the exposure, you can call me an expert now or somebody who speaks common sense.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 7:45 pmLots of people on twitter who are experts in the field of undersoil heating stressing that it works to keep the ground from freezing, but it won't stop heavy snowfall making the pitch unplayable
I think the issue was that you couldn't keep the lines clear, rather than the ground being frozen

Re: MATCH OFF.
I think you need to read the explanation given by the club, and all the local reporters....... The amount of snow that fell in a short time meant that no heating system would have stopped it. Boden even explained the ground and grass temp, which was way above freezing.

Undersoil heating doesn't melt snow it stops frost forming on the pitch.

No it wasn’t. Logistically it couldn’t. There was no definite time that the conditions would improve

Can I take it that you're an expert on the abilities of undersoil heating?

What a great day! Drove Salisbury to Oswaldtwistle M65 junction before postponement. Driven back. Got as far as Swindon, car pulls out on dual carriageway, going half my speed. Anchors hammed, wheel turned to avoid smashing into it. Next just down the road, message on screen...tyre pressure very low. I have a hole in tyre!
Now awaiting tow, the ladt 40 miles. Grrr.

Re: MATCH OFF.
Sad that so many football fans are kowtowing to the mumbling of "safety concerns" rather than standing up for their fellow supporters.
We all lose out when bad decisions like this are made.
It was a clear sunny sky 30 minutes after the scheduled kick off. The snowfall had become mild and manageable long before then.
This will have cost a lot of people their hard-earned money and it gets brushed away with "safety concerns" when the game could and should have gone ahead.

Depending on when the rearranged game takes place, this 'game in hand' on the teams around us could come in useful further down the line...

Re: MATCH OFF.
I think it says a lot for this forum that a post about the match being postponed has gone on far longer than it would had the match been played. Fair does, most of it is the repetitive ramblings of a raving lunatic who will never accept that maybe he hasn’t quite got it right, but it’s a great effort nonetheless.

I'm surprised somebody on here hasn't criticised the club for not plugging in the infrared grass growing lights we use, to melt the snow..

Re: MATCH OFF.
Well obviously yes but it was snowing from 12 until 14:50. So the covers would have needed to come off possibly around 13:00. They said the pitch filled again within 10 minutes of being cleared. I very much doubt covers would have made any difference.
The issue I have with those calling it a bad decision is a lot are making that call with hindsight.

Re: MATCH OFF.
Not enough to make any difference to the postponement no. League rules state they have to be off a certain time before kick off.
The heavy stuff came after this time so we'd have been in exactly the same boat as we were without any covers.

Re: MATCH OFF.
Just for clarity, I haven't called it a bad decision. But snow was clearly forecast but I'm not aware of any actions that the Club took to mitigate this. Maybe they couldn’t but I'm just asking.bf2k wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 8:08 pmWell obviously yes but it was snowing from 12 until 14:50. No not saying you have.
I don’t think they could have other than requesting a later kick off time possibly yesterday but not sure that was even possible. Unfortunately I think Mother Nature won today

Re: MATCH OFF.
I assume that any covers would have to ve removed some time before kick off. Not like a cricket cover is it? More like big sheet(s).
Undersoil would no doubt also have an off time.
Burnley snow appears to be very gravy and late coming.
Nonetheless, probably lessons somewhere.

Re: MATCH OFF.
I am sure the crowd would have loved sitting on the ground for an extra hour in freezing conditions and whilst it was snowing.Rowls wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 7:29 pmThe pic was posted at 3:32pm on twitter. The main point has always been, why didn't the referee delay his decision.
Had the kick off been delayed till 3pm this would have the blue sky in the first half.
I am sure the ref must have known there was going to be blue sky an hour and have after the game was called off.I live about 6 miles from Burnley so know what the weather was like this afternoon.
