Be interesting if decisions are made on the forecast rather than what’s actually happening at the time.

Re: MATCH OFF.
the ground staff worked their socks off , the snow was heavier here than most places.
The snow was covering the turf almost as soon as a patch was cleared.
A decision had to be taken for the benefit of everyone and unfortunately the game was called off.
The idea of having fans freezing their ******** off in the forlorn hope that the game might go ahead is nuts.

No need to do that. Could have just waited a few minutes and made a more informed decision.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 6:33 pmBe interesting if decisions are made on the forecast rather than what’s actually happening at the time.
Would you have needed a forecast to know that this is a clear blue sky?

Re: MATCH OFF.
Not only this but you'd have also been looking at around 10k additional fans starting to make there way into Burnley centre and towards the ground either from their homes if local or from outside the town for those already on route.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 6:33 pmFans and staff hanging about for around an hour and a half for that would have been a really, really good idea.
The idea to let thousands of fans to continue to head towards the ground to hang around for 30 mins past kick off for a final decision just seems illogical given where we were at 1pm

Re: MATCH OFF.
The very best case scenario could have seen a 15.45 kick off today. Forget the not knowing that for sure until well after planned kick off.. Can you really not see how that might be problematic for stadium staff and emergency services? If it was due to stop snowing an hour earlier, they'd be a case for delay but this would have been an unreasonable gamble.

Love this clear blue sky thing. Should be a meme. We have clear blue skies here when it’s -15c. Doesn’t mean it’s nice to be out in.

So next time we have 6cm of snow forecast, let’s just postpone the day before. Because we now know we cannot cope.

Re: MATCH OFF.
Can understand them struggling to clear it around KO. I went to the Bistro at Towneley at 12pm it was bucketing it down, my son cleared the benches of snow as we entered, we ordered and within 10mins like any toddler he needed the toilet. We went back outside and the benches to his amazement were covered in as much snow. Got dropped outside the Wellington 1.10pm as it was still heavy and even the short journey down Tod Road was hard work, received a call saying it was off from a mate.
The most disappointing part of the day was getting a call from my wife, who has no interest in football, as I was getting stuck into my fourth pint saying 'has the game been called off'....

Have yourself a day off ffs. It was the ref who called it not the club. A football club CANNOT call off a game.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 6:15 pmPoint taken, BUT you say a number of years ago and due to riots, no a bit of crappy weather. Rowls posted the photo about half hour after the scheduled kick off time.

The pic was posted at 3:32pm on twitter. The game would have been going ahead even if it kicked off on time. jdrobbo could confirm what time the photo was taken.
The main point has always been, why didn't the referee delay his decision.
Had the kick off been delayed till 3pm this would have the blue sky in the first half.

Re: MATCH OFF.
You should put the covers on before it actually snows. On my phone yesterday, snow was forecast after lunch today. Very poor that no precautions were taken.Backofthenet wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 6:55 pmIt didn't snow overnight, and wasn't forecast to. 2hrs before the game wouldn't really have been possible
Re: MATCH OFF.
I know some opposition fans might disagree but we don’t play football in the sky. Do you have a picture of the pitch taken at the same time?

A picture of the pitch at 2:01 pm, about 30 to 40 minutes after they stopped working on it. It’s not exactly thick and it stopped snowing soon after.

Re: MATCH OFF.
So there's your answer Jimscho.
Clear blue sky 30 minutes after scheduled kick off.
Re: MATCH OFF.
Do we still have covers? I thought they disappeared years ago - perhaps when we got undersoil heating / resolved the drainage issues.

He makes the final decision if the game should be played, but he'll take into account all the other factors given to him. Otherwise, why does he spend time stood in the cold talking the officials from the Premier League, the clubs and ground staff?

Re: MATCH OFF.
Yeah, we most likely do, but they'd have been no good for the snow coming down at 2ish. And we couldn't have it covered then as the players need to warm up.
The pitch was being cleared but the snow was just covering it again so covers overnight wouldn't have made a difference.

I'm working in France so the time on my computer shows 3:32 instead of 2:32.
You can see what time it was originally posted or jdrobbo can tell us what time he took the picture.
What isn't really in any doubt is that the decision to postpone the game today was premature and has cost a lot of people their hard-earned money and wasted their time.

I haven't seen covers used at any ground for years. Constant maintenance, undersoil heating and the artificial light technology seem to be the way now

Re: MATCH OFF.
I find it astounding and deeply worrying that such a bad decision as this which costs so many people time and money is seemingly lauded by so many.
It's so obviously such a dreadful decision to call off a game because of snow when it was bright and sunny 30 minutes afterwards with no further snow forecast.

Re: MATCH OFF.
Lots of people on twitter who are experts in the field of undersoil heating stressing that it works to keep the ground from freezing, but it won't stop heavy snowfall making the pitch unplayable
I think the issue was that you couldn't keep the lines clear, rather than the ground being frozen
Re: MATCH OFF.
So would the undersoil heating not have melted the snow?

Wow and Rowls didn’t even attend
Yet those of us who were attending the game (you know actually in and around Turf Moor) can understand the game being called off.

City game not a great deal of difference, you can see the lines in both pictures but City can clear it in the half time break. With a ten minute delay.

30 minutes after they called it off , it was still snowing. Buy you wouldn't know that
