Next four games

Post by Spijed » Sun Nov 28, 2021 4:43 pm

How many points do you reckon from the following matches as we now have four potentially winnable games coming up, where these are the typical run of games that we've tended to do reasonably well in the last few seasons.

Wolves (A)
Newcastle (A)
West Ham (H)
Watford (H)

Needless to say, if we are to make life easier for ourselves we'll have to target this run as one to gather a few points in.

Wolves are 6th in the league while West ham are 4th. Tricky games. 6 would be a good return there.

Whichever way you look at it we're probably going to have to win one in three
of our remaining games to stand much chance of staying up.
So hopefully at least one win and a draw from those next four fixtures.

Ideally two wins which would probably lift us out of the bottom three
and give the team and fans confidence that we can make it.

If we can take 7pts then we would be 16 pts from 16 games and that's where we need to be at least, but there are no easy games in this league be it Norwich at home or Chelsea away, we have to work hard for every point.

I think we need to be seeking a minimum of six points here. Results elsewhere have been very poor for us recently, on the whole. We are playing well but it’s not translating into much on the table sadly. We are a week or two from being cut adrift, which is then leaving survival a huge ask.

I will stick my neck out and say we’ll get seven points.

I’d be over the moon if we managed such a return from those games.

Cut adrift? Norwich rather surprisingly have shown it's not too difficult to pick up points in recent games.

They are important, but all I was saying that Norwich have surprisingly closed the gap when they looked down and out.

Definitely a run of games where we should be expecting to pick up points, our performances have been gradually improving, as now have our results, so there's certainly nothing to fear from those next 4 fixtures.

Wolves (A) They are on a decent run, but so are we, and we usually do ok at Wolves these days.
Newcastle (A) Now this is a biggie, even this early in the campaign, if we can return home with all 3 points, there could be a sizable gap between ourselves and the Geordies.
West Ham (H) This will be tough as Moyes has got them going well, but they don't generally enjoy their trips to TM.
Watford (H) Definitely a game that ranks in the must win category, Watford are scoring plenty, but they are shipping even more.

7 would be fine, especially if 6 of those were wins against Newcastle & Watford, the fixtures against our direct relegation rivals will be even more key than normal this season, as it's unlikely any of the strugglers will take much of the top sides.

For the record, I think Wednesday's game is incredibly important. Even I'll think it will get more difficult were we to lose, purely because any momentum we've built up in recent games suddenly gets lost.

A point or more keeps us ticking along, especially as Newcastle play Norwich & Leeds play Palace.

The Newcastle game is a no-brainer. That's pretty much a no-lose one at all costs.

The next two fixtures are going to be critical to our season.

Win both of them and we will be in a healthy position going into a busy schedule

Lose both fixtures and we will be cut adrift

4/5 points against those 4 sides isn't too poor depending on the Newcastle result.

This Season will probably define the future of the next chapter in the Club's history and it may well still be a bit twitchy come April/May.

Ultimately we'll probably need 27/28 points from our remaining 26 matches to survive.

I Think we need 6 from the next 4 to stand a realistic chance of staying up. At least one of those games is a "must win" but if we only win one of them then I'll really struggle to see where another 7/8 wins are going to come from.

Wolves (A) - draw
Newcastle (A) - lose if they play ASM
West Ham (H) - win
Watford (H) - draw

On the form of our last 7 games that shouldn't be too difficult, 8 wins and a few draws should suffice you'd imagine, it's just being able to turn all these draws we're having into victories, if we can start doing that we'll be fine.

Ideally we'll hit the 20 point marl by the end of the Leeds game in early new year, I always think 20 points by halfway is par for staying up.

So 3 wins and a couple of draws before then will have us back on course, ahead of a tough looking run of fixtures in early 2022.

Wolves (A) - I have a good feeling about this game so at least one point
Newcastle (A) - EH didn’t really have a clue about putting out a good defensive team when he was here so no reason to think his changed so three points from this one.
West Ham (H) - WH having a tremendous season so far and maybe time for them to slip up by donating a point to us.
Watford (H) - Inconsistent but very much better with Raneiri at the wheel so at least a draw .

At least 7 pts gained I feel coming our way.
