According to some on here the problem would have been sunshine in the eyes if we’d have delayed the kick off by half an hour yesterday :D

According to legend Blant, in his watering hole The Queens in Rawtenstall, explained a below par performance by Best at the Turf by saying ‘I told him in the tunnel that if he came near me I’d break his fckn legs’. And you know, I actually think he meant it.

Hope nobody sat in the seats behind him criticised or, worse still, called him names.
Heck, it would have made the whole match experience unbearable for him. :?

Think Shankley beat him too it, speaking to a young winger newly arrived from Scotland playing against Preston, is how Tommy Doc remembered Shankley welcoming him to England

Great story Ian 👍

Howard Kendall always tells a tale about his 1st game against Leeds Utd and how he got his retaliation in on Billy Bremner 1st ... Bremner shouted Norman, Jackie, Paul get the **** and then everytime he got anywhere near the ball he was eating grass face first

Now that wouldn’t surprise me at all. These guys played when it was a mans game instead of a theatrical performance. If a player had gone gone rolling around after a glancing touch to the shoulder they wouldn’t have been able to play for laughing.

I played for our village side Bunillidh Thistle in the Highland reserve league. Interesting times as the Scots have a totally different concept of a foul.I had to get my retaliation in early because as soon as they heard my accent I was a marked man.

My dear departed sister was in the year below Blant at Alder Grange school and she said he was a loony then. By all accounts a really decent bloke but once in football boots something clicked inside I think. 😊😊

I wasn't in the area at that time but I have heard similar stories from locals.

Merry Christmas Colin. You always made me wince when you went in for a tackle :o

Didn't Tommy Smith say something similar to Taffy on the Turf after he'd megged him or something like that.
