Re: Steven Defour
Much as I would agree that Defour was a class act, it is amazing that a player who played so few games has achieved legend status in the eyes of many clarets.

Re: Steven Defour
Because he was a class act. Far, far too good for us.
People really like him because he was THAT good.
That’s not the memory playing tricks and remembering someone as better than he was, it’s a cast iron fact. He’s reached legendary status because he was technically brilliant, and to see him play for us was an honour and a privilege.
Well, that’s what I reckon…..

Re: Steven Defour
I think it's more than just how good he was. He was an enigma that lifted the club and the fans. He enjoyed the love he got from the fans and after he left has always been complimentary of that.
Sure we've had some good players in the past like Wright, but they didn't connect quite the same way Defour did.
I feel sorry for him because without his injuries he could easily have been a champions league winner.. yet he didn't come to the club with a big head. He just wanted to play.

Funny you should say that. My mate with the Box Brownie is working on getting his equipment into the ground for the Newcastle game but the images may be a little small from where he is sat

Re: Steven Defour
Could teach our current midfielders a thing or too (get him a job asap), also get him teaching Brownhill how to take a free kick
He may not have played as much as both he and us would have liked, but it shows how impactful he was that people still bang on about him even now.
I doubt there are many midfielders that played so little for us but are thought of so highly, tells its own story doesn't it.

There was always a parallel with Kevin Reeves in my mind. Both were amazing for the few games they played and there is a terrible feeling of “what if”. Maybe the mind plays tricks and fills in the blanks with more amazing performances which in reality rarely happens.

It is really, but his signing was as much a statement of our intent to be an established Premiership team.
He was a wonderful player, so sorry he had such a dreadful injury. Stands alongside those we consider to be great Burnley players.

He was a very good player. But also a keen follower of our club to this day. That's why people like him.

While he was undoubtedly a class act I’m amazed our 2 goals in 3 seasons , often unfit , often hooked , semi permanently injured waffle fancier received such iconic status .

We were robbed of the best of Steven Defour by injury. I'd have a fit Defour here in a heartbeat.

Long shot against Hull, delightful chip against Bristol City and a top corner free kick at Old Trafford.
Not bad goals to be fair.

Re: Steven Defour
All three were something very special. The chip v Bristol was my favourite, well it is for tonight. I'll probably change to the Hull 80-yard shot tomorrow
Re: Steven Defour
The Hull one for me. The way he took the ball on the turn to wipe out Hull's midfield.. I'd never, and have never since, seen a Burnley player pull off something like that. Incredible talent.RalphCoatesComb wrote: ↑Fri Apr 08, 2022 10:25 pmAll three were something very special. The chip v Bristol was my favourite, well it is for tonight. Re: Steven Defour
Ahh a Burnley midfielder talking 2 opposition players out of the game with 1 touch, before running towards goal and smashing in a screamer from 25 yards.
You wounder how long it'll be before we see something like that again.
Same with his free kick at Old Trafford, just showed his quality and why we haven't seen anyone come close to replicating either goals since.

Re: Steven Defour
I'm hopeful Maxwel will be the next to provide that touch of geniius. In fact he did a trick in the first half against Everton that took out one of their midfielders. A dodgy part of the pitch (inside our own half) to be doing that but a brilliant touch, nonetheless.

Re: Steven Defour
Tbf it was hard to replicate the OT free kick whilst we had Brady persistently failing to recreate his opening goal against Chelsea, but Max could be the one to do it. At least he’s able to beat any wall that’s in front as we saw at LeedsMACCA wrote: ↑Sat Apr 09, 2022 8:39 amAhh a Burnley midfielder talking 2 opposition players out of the game with 1 touch, before running towards goal and smashing in a screamer from 25 yards.
