I had visions of coming on here saying I’d have preferred Harry Brooks but the lad did well in fairness

I also watched on TV but thought he did very well indeed tonight - he wasn’t intimidated, took his time and seemed to communicate his decisions well. There were a couple of potential flashpoints that he dealt with well. Compared to Kevin Friend recently, he showed maturity and experience. I’d wager he’s played the game at a decent level.

If I’d have been told it was his 10th season as a top flight official I wouldn’t have been surprised. Actually I would, compared to a good number who have been officiating for at least that long and are frankly inept!

Really think he should have sent Hee-Chan off tonight.

His first Premier League game. I thought he did well, there were a lot of experienced players - on both sides - trying to con him throughout the game but he didn't buy any of it!

Disappointed with how easily our players went over tonight. Quite a few times they themselves to the floor.
Ref did well.

How on earth did he give a foul against Rodriguez, when Saiss bust Rodriguez's nose?

Certainly not in agreement with the majority. He ‘handled’ the game well, but he seemed to guess at a lot of 50/50 decisions which generally went against us. Rodriguez being a case in point. Let a lot of niggly little fouls go which added to an already frustrating watch.

Played it safe on debut and favoured the home side a bit too much and the defensive side a bit too much. Led to a frustrating game.

Honestly thought that was a foul by JRod (albeit a weak one) before he was accidentally hit by an arm. Ref saw the blood after blowing up, so not sure he could change his mind on that basis.

I thought Lowts was lucky to get away with the clash given he forearm smashed him & then seemed to lunge in the aftermath. Yes the Wolves player hit out but I’d say he had every right to, being provoked twice.

Also thought the JRod flying tackle that caught him on the foot, completely missing the ball, could have been more than a yellow if he were so inclined.

Overall I thought he made the correct, balanced decisions on all the big calls.

Missed every trick in the book, there again so did VAR. For Collins to react like that suggests an eye gouge. Not sure how closely it was looked at. I thought we got booked for less than they were getting away with. Certainly a homer…. Probably apart from Turf of course.

Decent enough game but let two blatant fouls go unpunished that would have resulted in Jiminez being sent off in rugby union. The first was the blatant gouging on Collins when he clearly went for his eyes and the 2nd was the body check on Mee that was pre-meditated. He's a nasty piece of work that Jiminez. He may have got the sympathy vote when he broke his skull but he's back to his evil best now.

The main point there is 'Yes, the Wolves player hit out'. Another word for that is retaliation and as far as I am aware that is totally unacceptable and a red card is the simple outcome.
If a player makes the initial foul then the referee presumably gives a free kick to the other team ; the awarding of a yellow card is subjective. Retaliation is much easier to deal with as it doesn't involve a subjective decision. A yellow for both players is a coward's way out and we saw something very similar with Tarks and Zaha. So, the referee has learned very quickly to 'bottle' key decisions just like many of those more senior to him. He should go far.

He knew the ref was going to bottle a sending off, in his first match, so took full advantage.

Well yes, but if you're going to make a lazy stereotype about an entire continent then it's advised to at least get the continent correct.

I only saw it live and from a distance and haven't seen it since, but did their guy kick Lowton when he was on the ground? That's what it looked like tbh. Otherwise the ref did pretty well tbf.

Hi Neil, Hope you're OK. You won't remember but the first time I met you was at Molineux. It was a long time ago and must have been an early season match because the sun was shining
