Beards
Just seen on news that people with beards are 3 to 4 times more likely to be carrying MRSA bug than clean shavers. Yuk!
Re: Beards
You need to re-read the article. It actually suggests that people with beards are three times LESS likely to carry MRSA. Not that I agree with it anyway...

Re: Beards
Nah, it says beards carry as many bacteria as a toilet. However, eventually you can increasingly develop resistance - that's if you've surbived the MRSA first.

Re: Beards
1% of the population carry MRSA and never know about it because it doesn't cause any issues. Only a tiny tiny number have an infection from MRSA.basil6345789 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 11:35 amNah, it says beards carry as many bacteria as a toilet. About 1 in 3 will carry the same type of bacteria on their skin, only this version IS sensitive to standard antibiotics. But you usually don't need any because it's just sitting there doing nothing.
Bacteria on the skin, in the mouth, in the gut etc are all good and part of a healthy symbiotic relationship. Having lots of bacteria in your beard is irrelevant really. Unless it's the SAME ones you'd find on a toilet seat

Perhaps there are stats that show that those who shave are more likely to die from bacterial infections?

Two weeks in unshaven and that's down to pure laziness and being knackered. Quite like the way mine is shaping up. Looking forward to a few weeks down the line when bits of food get caught in it and I have a ready made snack at work.

Re: Beards
If I’m not expecting to be seen I only shave at the itchy phase, I was being environmentally friendly (and a scruffy, cheapskate) long before it became fashionable.

Re: Beards
Haven’t shaved since reading this, I now have an excuse for forgetting to shave. Getting itchy now so be off before the days out, time to fish out the anti-bac soap.

Re: Beards
Trouble is you can shave-off a beard and that's that, whereas tattoo ink remains in the body and can cause long term (toxic absorption) to vital organs, especially if the ink originated in China and the tattoo man failed to provide the COSHH/Chemical Data Sheet before you singed for your consent.
