Paddy McGuinness

Post by evensteadiereddie » Thu Dec 02, 2021 1:04 pm

Paddy McGuinness, his wife Christine and his family. .........fair play to them all for their part in last night's programme examining their three children's - and more recently diagnosed, his wife's - autism and all the implications.
Fascinating and quite moving. I know McGuinness is one of this board's bogey - men but, in all fairness, he, in particular, came across brilliantly last night.

I watched it last night and thought it was very good and relatable.

My youngest has High functioning Aspergers and she also hates the loud noise from the hand dryers in public toilets, like one of Paddy's kids.

I never knew that about Paul Scholes' son either, was interesting to see how he handles it and probably helps to explain why he's always kept his private life quiet as a player.

Re-assuring to know that people in the public eye keep their private lives exactly that.

Yes, what better way to raise awareness of autism than er, keeping it private. Prat.

I don't normally have much time for Paddy McGinless (as I have stated in the "Terrible TV" threads) but he certainly has come across well in this programme ...

Luckiest man in Bolton, no one would hear of his private life and problems but for lazy producers who catapulted him to stardom because of the unprecedented popularity of his best friend, Peter Kay. The comedic equivalent of PG can be found in every pub in Lancashire.

Awareness is vital. How it is raised is something different.

I assume you saw the programme. What was it you didn't like, particularly ?

Yes, which is why Paddy has done this program and done a very good job of it.
Also including a very high profile person to discuss their own experiences of it, along with normal people to show this can occur in all walks of life.

Some very aggressive comments on here. I am very, very aware of autism and its effects on the person and those around them. Please don't lecture me or interrogate me on the subject. It's extremely sensitive and devastatingly debilitating and I just believe that a less high profile person than PM might have been more appropriate. I would sincerely hope that any awareness or information on offer isn't retained because a 'tV celebrity' featured. Just an opinion and absolutely nothing more sinister. Have a good day.

Sometimes a higher profile person is better though.

Currently Paddy is hosting Top Gear and QoS, amongst other commitments so his profile is quite high.
This is a personal thing for him, so using his profile to raise awareness is a good thing isn't it?

Is it Paddy you have an issue with?

Nobody's being aggressive. You made a comment and I asked for clarification. If you have an aversion to McGuinness, you should have said so.
Nothing more sinister.
I will.

I thought it was an excellent programme and Paddy and Christine came across as really loving parents.

No axe to grind. At the end of the programme a website was put up where it said more information could be had 'from people and specialists'. I think I would have preferred to see and hear from them. But, as already said just an opinion

Last week on Top Gear, Paddy McGuiness did a brilliant interview and tribute to former stunt rider Eddie Kidd who is now paralysed and suffered brain damage following an accident in the 90's. Well worth watching.

Sometimes though, people struggle to watch and listen to specialists on TV, it's easier to watch a "normal" persons journey/story first, to see the similarities and for some it may make the realise that they're on a similar journey with no diagnosis and it may encourage them to take the next step and see their GP.

I’m starting to warm to Paddy McGuinness as a presenter and think him, Flintoff and Chris Harris are excellent on Top Gear.

As mentioned above, his tribute to Eddie Kidd was fantastic and brought a tear to my eye.

Always been a bit nonplussed to Paddy McGuiness, he's had a hell of a couple of weeks on TV though. Came across very well last night, but the feature last week with Eddie Kidd will probably be the piece of telly he will show his grand kids, it was superb.

Got to admit I felt the same ... can't watch his game shows or other ersatz comedy but when he does stuff like that he is very good (can't believe I am saying that)
