I think the better question is who can he possibly drop/ bring in this time to make a difference?
OK, consider it asked.
Do you have the answer?

Roberts has certainly looked very good for Wales and was regarded as one of the stand out players in the Championship, so he could make a big difference.

Also, I think we need a stirring performance as much as anything. During our poor run in 18/19 there was the Liverpool game at home, and whilst we lost, it was a close game. I remember Bardsley being fired up for that one and it lifted the crowd.

Think he might suggest dropping Brownhill 🤔

Nope, there is no one on our bench or in the rest of the squad that would dramatically improve us.

I think stand out player is a bit of a claim.

He had a successful season for a mid table championship team.

Several clubs seem to be interested in trying to bring Tripps back to the UK in January. I wonder if Sean has had a quiet word in his ear? After all, desperate times, need desperate measures.

At the moment, most of the chatter seems to be about people who might leave, rather than people who might arrive. Let's hope that changes and we at least bring in a more attacking midfielder.

One of the best players in a team who reached the playoff final. Given our supposed creative midfielder Westwood is creating nothing his long throw may be our best chance of scoring goals. Roberts has to come in for Lowton for me.

Yes but saying he was stand out player in the championship is a bit of a claim. Didn’t even make the team of the season so couldn’t have stood out that much.

Good player but don’t think he will make the impact of McNeil/heaton from 18-19 season

Swansea were in the play off final, hardly mid-table is it?

He also created the second most chances in the league, only behind Buendia. Then he featured for Wales in the Euros who progressed through the group stages.

I’d call that a pretty good season, but whatever suits your narrative!

Had he gone to any other club in the division for the same fee he would be telling everyone what an incredible bit of business it was, as it is he came here so it is understandable he is negative towards him

Haha it’s not a narrative. People are making out like Roberts is going to make a dramatic difference, he’s a decent player but in reality he’s had a fairly average career to date.

There is a big gap between the championship and premier league. As can be seen with Buendia

I’m not even being negative about him. I’m just saying it’s a strange claim saying he was a stand out player in the championship.

As you highlighted there is a reason he has come to Burnley.

Roberts was a steal at that fee, however we do need to try and find a way of accommodating him if we can, but it would be harsh on Lowton to drop to the bench given his excellent form this season. Tough call but this is why SD gets paid handsomely for to make the big decisions.

I enjoy when he bombs forward. He has about 3 games when he looks like Roberto Carlos. Then I don’t know what happens. Does he slack off? Is he told to slack off? Either way, Roberts would be more consistent.

How can you say Roberts would be more consistent? He’s played like 90 mins of premier league football in his career

Easily. Based on his 2nd best creator stats in the Championship and his consistent performance against International class players for Wales.

It’s not a giant leap in concept or imagination

How does a transfer rumours thread become a discussion about whether one of the team's players is better than another of the team's players - and neither of them is subject to a transfer rumour?

We should be going all out for AMN if he wants regular footy, although I guess Newcastle amongst others will also be interested.

I wonder if that ship sailed with the capture of Roberts. Appreciate that AMN can play centrally but his best football has come as a wing back.

If Utd are happy to let fringe players go, the likes of Lingard will be going to WHU or Newcastle
A short term loan (even with big wages) for someone like Matic would certainly strengthen our decidedly weak central midfield
This has to be our key area for any sort of recruitment in Jan

I'm sure we need better supply to our strikers first. All of them are fishing of scraps currently.

Lets hope whoever uncovered Cornet has a few more like that in his/her file.

We definitely need creativity in the side and fast esp if he is going on ACON duty.

The fees seem much more reasonable abroad though. I’m glad we’re looking further afield.

Third lowest scoring team in the PL last season (the other 2 relegated) and 15 games into this season with the same set of strikers and guess what? The penny has dropped that we can't score goals. :x

Looking like January is going to be similar to last January then.

For all of the huff and puff from Pace signing one first team starter across three transfer windows must be classed as disastrous recruitment

If you read the article all he's really said is that big 20m+ players are not feasible. That's not really new. He even says he thinks the owners are looking to spend in Jan and there is money available.

Interesting comments he makes on Cornet as well:

“He [Cornet] has done well. We really like the look of him. He’s probably going to be more effective over time, off the left.

“But the transition to the Premier League, the quick play and the way the game changes very quickly, that’s something he’s got to develop into."

I completely agree he that he would be more effective from the left and perhaps that is why we are looking for a 10 (Fulgani links).
