Roberts has certainly looked very good for Wales and was regarded as one of the stand out players in the Championship, so he could make a big difference.
Think he might suggest dropping Brownhill
Nope, there is no one on our bench or in the rest of the squad that would dramatically improve us.
I think stand out player is a bit of a claim.Spijed wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 10:18 amRoberts has certainly looked very good for Wales and was regarded as one of the stand out players in the Championship, so he could make a big difference.
Also, I think we need a stirring performance as much as anything. During our poor run in 18/19 there was the Liverpool game at home, and whilst we lost, it was a close game. I remember Bardsley being fired up for that one and it lifted the crowd.
One of the best players in a team who reached the playoff final. Given our supposed creative midfielder Westwood is creating nothing his long throw may be our best chance of scoring goals. Roberts has to come in for Lowton for me.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 10:34 amI think stand out player is a bit of a claim.
He had a successful season for a mid table championship team.
Yes but saying he was stand out player in the championship is a bit of a claim. Didn’t even make the team of the season so couldn’t have stood out that much.
Swansea were in the play off final, hardly mid-table is it?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 10:34 amI think stand out player is a bit of a claim.

He also created the second most chances in the league, only behind Buendia. Then he featured for Wales in the Euros who progressed through the group stages.
I’d call that a pretty good season, but whatever suits your narrative!
Haha it’s not a narrative. People are making out like Roberts is going to make a dramatic difference, he’s a decent player but in reality he’s had a fairly average career to date.RVclaret wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 11:41 amSwansea were in the play off final, hardly mid-table is it?

I’m not even being negative about him. I’m just saying it’s a strange claim saying he was a stand out player in the championship.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 11:53 amHad he gone to any other club in the division for the same fee he would be telling everyone what an incredible bit of business it was, as it is he came here so it is understandable he is negative towards him
At a rough guess I would say it's to play footballNecastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 11:54 amI’m not even being negative about him. I’m just saying it’s a strange claim saying he was a stand out player in the championship.
As you highlighted there is a reason he has come to Burnley.
Lowton has been one of our better players, certainly his best ever season for us in my opinion.
Roberts was a steal at that fee, however we do need to try and find a way of accommodating him if we can, but it would be harsh on Lowton to drop to the bench given his excellent form this season. Tough call but this is why SD gets paid handsomely for to make the big decisions.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 11:53 amHad he gone to any other club in the division for the same fee he would be telling everyone what an incredible bit of business it was, as it is he came here so it is understandable he is negative towards him
He’s been my player of the season. Consistent all season.CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 9:26 amLowts seems to do what I did in class. 3 great games / tests then coasts for a bit.
I enjoy when he bombs forward. He has about 3 games when he looks like Roberto Carlos. Then I don’t know what happens. Does he slack off? Is he told to slack off? Either way, Roberts would be more consistent.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 9:27 amHe’s been my player of the season. Consistent all season.
How can you say Roberts would be more consistent? He’s played like 90 mins of premier league football in his careerCharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 9:31 amI enjoy when he bombs forward. Easily. Based on his 2nd best creator stats in the Championship and his consistent performance against International class players for Wales.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 9:33 amHow can you say Roberts would be more consistent? How does a transfer rumours thread become a discussion about whether one of the team's players is better than another of the team's players - and neither of them is subject to a transfer rumour?CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 9:40 amEasily. It’s not a giant leap in concept or imagination
I wonder if that ship sailed with the capture of Roberts. Appreciate that AMN can play centrally but his best football has come as a wing back.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 9:20 pmWe should be going all out for AMN if he wants regular footy, although I guess Newcastle amongst others will also be interested.

Tbh Ive never seen anything in AMN that would improve the average under 12s team. Am not at all surprised he cant get into the Arsenal teamtiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 9:20 pmWe should be going all out for AMN if he wants regular footy, although I guess Newcastle amongst others will also be interested.

I'm sure we need better supply to our strikers first. All of them are fishing of scraps currently.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 12, 2021 7:05 pmWe desperately need a new striker we have missed Ash and the others have all drawn blanks.

Doesn’t say that in the Sunelwaclaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 10:29 pmSun reporting that Newcastle have turned to Bournemouth for a centre half after Burnley told them they couldn’t afford Tarks, according to BBC gossip.
Love it if true.
Think it is in Torrow’s gossip column rather than todays paper, not being funny, just saying it’s in the BBC gossipjoey13 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 10:40 pmDoesn’t say that in the Sun

If you read the article all he's really said is that big 20m+ players are not feasible. That's not really new. He even says he thinks the owners are looking to spend in Jan and there is money available.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 7:44 amLooking like January is going to be similar to last January then.
For all of the huff and puff from Pace signing one first team starter across three transfer windows must be classed as disastrous recruitment
