Agree. Using the money we already had along with the Wood/Tarks money would be a sizeable kitty for us but then chances of us using it is a big if.RVclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 10:01 amI think we’d be crazy to reject anything above 15/20m. Someone on twitter made a good point, surely it would of been cheaper for the Saudis to have bought Burnley instead of Newcastle

It’s only good if it is invested. If it’s not it’s just considerably weakening us and strengthening our relegation rivals.RVclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 10:01 amI think we’d be crazy to reject anything above 15/20m. We sell him for 25, 20 million profit on what we bought him for, 5 million to Brentford still leaves us with 20 million to bring in a new cb to play along side Collins next season no worries.buzzclarets79 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 10:05 amRe Tarks, Don't forget that Brentford due a sell on %, so even if he goes for 15/20 Mill we won't see all of that cash

Yes completely agree. Given the amount of links lately it’s clear Pace is pretty busy behind the scenes but can these players be convinced to join us? That’s the question. And also are Pace and Dyche aligned? Pace might see the possible £40m+ income as a perfect chance to rebuild a more youthful team with huge resale potential, while Dyche might want to splash it all on Benteke types.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 10:09 amIt’s only good if it is invested. I'd have thought Tarkowski would choose to keep his options open for the summer even if we did accept a bid.

At least it confirms one thing if true that blind panic has set in at Newcastle with regards to getting in players and that they are relying on weakening other teams to stop up.
I suspect that's what it boils down to.

Northern club, big money, makes sense to all parties. Let him go, get Collins in the team source a young replacement (unless they think Thomas can be that) and use excess funds and those of the Wood transfer for a CF, CM and RW.
Sounds all so easy but I know that won't be the case.

Exactly, in theory sounds great and on Football Manager it's a no brainer- but reality is clearly quite different.Goobs wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 10:22 amNorthern club, big money, makes sense to all parties. We should take any money we can for Tarkowski.
He’s been superb for us over the years, but this season, Tarkowski has been a significant contributor to our on field problems.
You don’t keep a player, and play them every game, if they’re coasting to the end of their contract.
In previous years, I wouldn’t have confidence that we could get a replacement in, but under Pace, I do.
If a bid comes in, get him sold.

I would argue if this happens our starting eleven is worse now than before Pace came in.

Maybe not the same wage but factor in a signing on fee he would receive as a free-agent and the overall package may be worth more.
Whether he would gamble a potentially bigger deal in the summer for a guaranteed one now is a different matter.

These said 2 players have actually been contributing to our demise, wood been absolutely useless all season, tarkowski has clearly not been bothered or even wanted to play for us this season, too slow, too bulked up, affecting he's game, and wants away in my opinion, a liability, so many mistakes in him. Get Collins in, get as much as we can for tarkowski, around £12m I believe could be the marker for the geordies. But then we need to use it well, with what was already available we could be looking around £50m, plenty to keep us up.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 10:14 amI just can’t comprehend losing two of our best players in the middle of a relegation battle.

Let’s sell them and use players that are not performing as well? That’s not going to improve us at all.
Imagine the reaction on here if Garlick had done this.

With all their money (fees and wages) Newcastle have so far only brought in Trippier and Wood - plenty of stories of other players turning them downalwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 10:33 amThese said 2 players have actually been contributing to our demise, wood been absolutely useless all season, tarkowski has clearly not been bothered or even wanted to play for us this season, too slow, too bulked up, affecting he's game, and wants away in my opinion, a liability, so many mistakes in him. So how far are you expecting our money to go
£25m + £12m = £37m in my head
Where does the other £13m come from

Not sure that Tarks will move as he has plenty of suitors on a free
But no argument here that if he wants to go and Newcastle bid for him, then we should sell
Course, then we'd need to get at least three in a couple of weeks, which would be a very tall order

Tarks at this stage shouldn’t be anywhere near the first team. His replacement is already here, get him in the side. Anyone who thinks having Tarks in the side or not is key to us staying up or not at this stage in our season is seriously deluded.
I’d love to sell him this window, I really would, but his own personal interests will ensure he leaves in the summer and he trousers what would’ve been a transfer fee. I sincerely hope I’m wrong, but my gut feeling is like most people who already have a lot of money, he’ll want more and ride it out.

He might get a serious injury and throw it all away as well?
I don't think Newcastle will be as desperate in the summer if they stay up. He might get a bumper deal else where though?
Risk and reward.

The Board need us to stay up and how could we have kept Wood if he had a release clause, the release clause value was met and he wanted to leave?

Brentford the PL club in for Christian Eriksen. We are desperate for a 10 and creativity - why aren’t we all over this?

Agree.
Limited risk, 6 months with an option to extend is what Brentford are discussing. We don’t know if Eriksen is wedded to London, and we don’t know if he is the same man who got 10-15 assists per season in the Premier League. If he is though, that is what we need, 100%.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Carroll would be a smart signing on a contract until the end of the season, or maybe until the end of next season. He would suit our style of play, there is no transfer fee involved, and I doubt his wages would be out of reach. He may be on the older side but he still has pedigree.
As much as I would like Origi or Benteke, the problem is how attractive a proposition we are. They would most certainly demand relegation release clauses (a sensible option for both concerned parties). I think their wage demands would be too much for us to account for in the tier below. Perhaps loan options until the end of the season might be more realistic and sensible.

We should be in for Eriksen for sure.
It would be an imaginative and exciting signing. Probably means that Brentford won’t be dragged in if he turns up and is anything like.
