It’s not the first time we’ve been linked to Jones. I’d imagine he’s keen to reignite his career somewhere else.

We really need a list of all the players we’ve been linked with to get a perspective on this. Perhaps call it the ones that got away.

Jones wouldn't be a bad punt IF it was what we needed, but it isn't. We need a couple of creative midfielders and a mobile striker. Defence isn't a priority right now with Collins and Roberts in. Hope we save our cash.

Get Jones in on loan
Ship Tarks to Newcastle for as much as we can get
Use the money to swoop for Carroll

I’d take Jones but not at that figure. Newcastle have money to burn but with his lack of games this season he’s more in
the £8-10 million bracket, imo.

I'd use the 25 million on Millwalls right winger Jed Wallace, Readings central midfielder John Swift both out of contract at the end of the season so we could probably pick both up for 8 million and spend the rest if the 17 million abroad on the next Cornet

His wage is around 130k, so even if we loan him and utd pay 80k and we pay 50k who's postion in the team is he taking this season
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Apparently there's an 8m offer from West Ham for Tarky on the table, it will remain there for the window should we decide we want to cash in.
Like you, I'd also cash in however I'd play Collins and target Ben Davies from Liverpool for cover.

Great cover now, could be groomed for when Mee leaves
They got him for 2.5m last January, you'd think we could get him for 8m or lower.

Tarkowski has the final say, the club is powerless to force a sale. If the player decides to wait six months and join a club of his choice for a handsome golden handshake that’s his prerogative.
Tarks has form.

Nixon reckons Villa now keen on Neil at Sunderland while we continue ‘sniffing’. Why oh why we don’t just do the deal? These are the kind of signings we’ve just not made in recent times and exactly why we’ve ended up in this position and squad.

I do think we could push the wage budget. If any current player kicks up a fuss just point them to their performances throughout this season and our current league position.

I agree. Maybe not so far in one jump, but I honestly think that the 11 OOC in summer is a massive opportunity in this regard - replace them with 5-6 players real quality players who will contribute more, then fill the squad with the younger players we feel have potential - Helm, etc.

Wallace has been at Millwall for almost 5 years and Swift for pretty much the same time at Reading, so why has nobody else spotted these talents
OK, so Wallace linked with Notts F today but are we looking for players to keep us up or merely throwing in the towel and signing players for the Championship
We are certainly going to struggle to attract Prem standard players to sign permanently this month so let's just concentrate on the loan market (inc overseas) and buy wisely in the summer based on what league we will be playing in

Don't understand why we aren't looking at both Lawrence and Knight from Derby.
Lawrence having another good season with goals and assists, can play anywhere across midfield and as a 10. We were rumoured to be in for Knight in the past..
They are desperate to raise £7m to keep going. Nixon reporting they have accepted a 30k bid for Shinnie!

Neither Lawrence or Knight are proven at this level and therefore it would be very dangerous to rely on them to get us out of this mess, even if they are cheap.
By the way, I read Lawrence was on £37.5k pw at Derby. Not sure if it’s true. Last thing we need is a Championship player clogging up our wage bill like that!
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I’d be raiding Derby for sure.
Bielik, Lawrence and Knight could all be had for under £10m and would all be upgrades on what we have at the moment in the said positions.
If we don’t stay up then we’d at least have a strong core for next season.

Plenty of choices at Derby to bring in some fresh faces on the cheap. As already said Bielik, Knight and Lawrence are better than what we currently have. Lawrence scored both goals against Sheff Utd yesterday. They also have a couple of good youngsters in Buchanan and Sibley. So if no other deals bear fruit then these would be options.

The Derby situation seems similar to when Wigan were doing a fire sale a season or two back and Leeds snapped up Geldhart for 1.5m and Fulham got Antoine Robinson for similar.

Not sure his contract situation but £30k is peanuts.
I wouldn’t suggest we go for Shinnie he’s not good enough for us currently but he’s not a bad player at the level below.

I wasn't suggesting signing him just pointing out the administrators will accept peanuts.
I think it's got to the point where they have to fund the club out of their own pocket or sell players.

But we should be all over the Derby situation when there's potential bargains to be had, instead we're seemingly being linked to Andy flippin Csrroll.
Wake up Dyche, Pace and the recruitment team, and strike well the iron is hot.

No one knows who we are interested in really.
Does anyone else get annoyed with the apparent lack of understanding that rumours are often without substance and that we shouldn't take everything we read at face value.
Whilst it's good to debate what's reported, when it gets to having a pop at the club about something outside their control and that may not even be true, it's a bit OTT?
