Sunday - Nixon: Burnley interested in £120k a week Benteke who plays for a prem rival not in a relegation battle.

Monday - Benteke: I’m not going anywhere.

Tuesday - Nixon: Burnley can’t afford Benteke.

I mean was Nixon supposed to know if we were prepared to put together an enticing financial package for Benteke?

He reported we were interested, turns out we were and we've figured out Benteke isn't willing to accept our financial package which contains a relegation wage reduction.

We could've potentially stuffed more cash on the front end to peak his interest, maybe if we remove the relegation wage drop he'd be interested? maybe he never was interested in a move out of London?

Nixon was seemingly correct, we were interested, Benteke was written on the replacement whiteboard with Gurrassi and Origi.

Will be much tougher to attract players when we are bottom of the league. Might have to go as we are with a fit again Dale Stephens in central midfield alongside Brownhill with the prolific Jay Rod up front. Exciting Times.

Benteke only signed a new 2 year contract in the summer. Less than he was on before but more than we can afford
Just another fake news story from Nixon

Maybe worth giving Stephens a crack up top. He knows where the onion bag is. Scored goals for fun at Brighton and had a panful for Oldham too...from midfield! ...and still a good age for a striker.

Could save us a good few million to invest elsewhere if he came good?

Be better off with Shakin Stevens up front…

Orsic looks good if we could get him.

translation:

islav Oršić received an offer from the richest league in the world! Dinamo lowered the ramp to the clubs from Otok for the third time?
The offer is not one of those they are used to at Dinamo when it comes to blue footballers
Croatian national team player Mislav Oršić received an offer from the Premiership! We received this news from managerial sources, and the club did not deny it. To our knowledge, the offer was sent by a club from the bottom of the list, some sources claim that it is the last-placed Burnley. However, we have not received specific confirmation of which club it is.
However, the offer is not one of those they are used to at Dinamo when it comes to blue footballers, the blue club is used to high standards when it comes to outgoing transfers. So there will be nothing from Oršić's departure. Of course, every such statement should always be taken with a dose of caution, one never knows what may happen until the end of the transition period, reversals are always possible.

Otherwise. this is not the first offer for Oršić from Otok. While the coach of West Bromwich Albion was Slaven Bilic, that club sent a very correct offer for Mislav, but Dinamo did not accept it. Nor did the one sent by Birmingham.
Here, the blue club is giving a ‘basket’ to the clubs from the Island for the third time. Oršić was obviously not tried at that location ...

Probably more chance of a smurf scoring than one of our strikers.

Very much plays from the left - can’t see this one unless a change of shape is inbound which is highly unlikely

Reads to me as the offer is quite away from what they are expecting.

Can see this being the same as previous windows, targets identified, low bids made, moving further down our target list and ending up with Carrol.

Meet new boss, same as old boss. Won't get fooled again.

Hope I'm wrong.

I actually think Roberts and Collins were normal (albeit very good) bits of business for us, we've done pretty well with signings at the back. Taylor, Keane, Tarks even Gibson was decent on paper and we have usually taken these players from the championship or league one as we've done with these two.
Cornet appears to be the only "different" signing we've made and it's yet to be seen if it's a one off. If Carrol comes in then I don't think much has changed.

Could be another Cornet, difficult to guesstimate a value from a video comp but I'm crossing fingers and toes on this one.

Perhaps Mislav Oršić could be classed as a normal link, after all we did sign Jelle Vossen, Rouwen Hennings and who could forget the Kamil Grosicki saga.

The 3 left winger formation? It does seem odd we seem to be after loads of left wingers (I appreciate they can play elsewhere)

Fast but doesn’t look to have blistering pace/acceleration though & not a moneyball acquisition at 29.

Is moneyball our modus operandi?

My understanding of moneyball isn't that it’s about identifying players to turn a profit on, necessarily. More about identifying players with certain attributes that others are overlooking, who will bring missing or required qualities to the team.

I wouldn’t class Collins as a money all signing, for example, though he’s likely a player we will turn a good profit on, which should be our model.

We may need a LW when if/when McNeil departs.

People knock the club when we don't plan, so who's to say we aren't planning for when he departs in the summer, we would then have a ready made replacement in the building and up to speed with the league, knowledge of his opponents and of course the infamous framework ?

Also McNeil maybe fancied more centrally or as a RW, he does like to come inside a lot, and Mr Dyche has played his wingers playing on "the wrong side"

Wow 🤦🏻‍♂️.... Yes, that's why I said if/when he leaves.
It's better to plan in advance than to get caught with your pants down.

The club get stick for not planning, then when it looks like they may do, they still get stick 🤷🏻‍♂️

I thought the same from the moment Maxwel signed, I thought we’d potentially see a front 3 or 4 of

McNeil Striker Cornet
Or

Striker
JBG McNeil Cornet

Not to be obviously but that was my thought process above the normal 4-4-2

The term moneyball gets bandied about a little too much, but the above statement is pretty much it, as well as its converse, of hyping up your own players and selling them at over-inflated prices (where have we seen that before ?????... ahem... newcastle).

It fit much better within the framework of baseball, since certain stats would help create more chances within the game, but in football, it doesn't translate as well. You can look at time of possession but if all you are doing is passing it between your fullback and midfield, then you aren't going to score any goals. I trust that ALK can get in some quality signings with whatever methodology they are using.

You've been nervous since the summer window closed.

Cornet all day is more of a right winger than a left one, it's just Dyche that thinks differently
It’s not Dyche. Didn’t he play mainly on the left for Lyon?

Yes, he was playing left back. He’d played on both wings too. Now he’s making a bloody good striker!

It is Dyche, Cornet had played mostly at right wing and his best assists and goals come from playing on the right

Cornet played most equally Left and Right wing at Lyon, but spent the last couple of years at left back. Personally, I see him as a right winger as he’s such a goalscorer on his left foot but also two footed. Dyche clearly wants him left and Dwight right which also makes sense as Dwight has the attributes to make a very good right midfielder but he’s not been at his best this year.
