I still think CM is our biggest priority this window. I think Orsic might come in as a striker for us.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:26 amIt’s great that we’re clearly looking at getting Gudmundsson out of the team as he has been about as much use as a chocolate fireguard for two-three years.
The greatest issue is a centre forward though - who is the target now Benteke is a no go? Something secretive must be brewing behind the wings.

Our only available striker has scored 1 league goal in his last 40+ League games, this has to be more important than any other position. The centre of midfield needs lots of work, but at least we have bodies there (quality debatable granted).Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:27 amI still think CM is our biggest priority this window. Cm is our biggest weakness though, doesn’t matter how many goals we score if we can’t keep clean sheets. We need a better midfield where we retain the ball. It will improve us both at the back and going forwards. Because let’s be honest our service to the strikers is poor.

The link to Fofana suggests we are looking at central midfield.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:33 amI think if we are signing Orsic it’s to come in as a striker.

I’d probably go RW, striker, CM.
I’d say a rapid winger that pins teams back, can create chances from the right & allow Dwight to stay left would transform us most.
That’s on the basis we have Cornet to play up top + JRod who can do a job and holds the ball up really well, in my opinion. We have nobody who can beat a man on the right.
Just a shame we’ve got to a point where so many positions need strengthening at once.

Apparently prefers a move to London but United won’t do business with a rival. Interesting to see how that pans out.

Newcastle desperately need centre halves not attacking show ponies.
The fact they’re neglecting their defence whilst having Howe as manager makes them most likely to finish bottom for me.

Centre half form Sevilla moving to Newcastle in next few days, also linked with Botman at Lille which apparently won’t happen this window and linked with Tarks again a few days ago.

Signing a CB from Sevilla who are currently 2nd in la Liga 5 points behind Madrid with a game in hand. To boot he's handed in a transfer request.claret2018 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:55 amNewcastle desperately need centre halves not attacking show ponies.

As a bare minimum we need a CM, RW and now Wood has gone another striker, although if Cornet returns and continues to bag that will help somewhat, however we can't keep relying on him to produce worldies week after week.NewClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:35 amI’d probably go RW, striker, CM.

Yes it's shocking that we've allowed the squad to become so stale, and fresh ideas and personnel are urgently required, it's still not too late too save our season, but the next 12 days or so are vital to our hopes.

Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Out of all the rumours so far, Fofana and Orisic to me look the two capable of changing our fortunes. Fofana seems like pie in the sky but can't help but feel he'd absolutely transform our side. Add Orisic on the right and even free signing Andy Carrol up top and I think we'd have enough to stay up.
Those three coming could cost around 35million? 20-25m for Fofana, 10-15m for Orisic and Carroll on a free. It sounds a lot but that's only an additional 10m to add onto the Wood money. All 3 are on smaller wages than our top earners here so that works, although depends if Fofana has other suiters as he's likley to get more somewhere else.
I actually dont think that's an unrealistic amount for us to spend. Coming into the window, before the sale of Wood you'd like to have thought we had at least 10-15m to make a signing or two.
Suppose it depends if the intentions of the new board are to bank the money from the sale or reinvest it.
Like I said at the start, it could well be that the Fofana deal is pie in the sky, the point I'm trying to make is that there should be a good bit of money available for the right deals.

Carvalho at Fulham who is 19 looks the real deal. I've seen some links to West Ham and Liverpool over the last few days, it's rumoured for around 5 million due to his expiring contract.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
A decade too young.
He won't want ruining by our set up, plus Fuoham are steam rolling trams at the minute, may aswell stay in the shop window with them, then access his options when we swap divisions with Fulhan.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
If we do sign Fofana and Orisic they could insist on ‘transfer clause triggers’ in their contract (we could offer them transfer clauses) to allow them a chance of staying in the PL if we get relegated, this would be a good negotiating ploy for Alan Pace to use.
Then again, they might enjoy playing for us and stay with us even if we are relegated but I would think they would insist on keeping their PL wage structure in place.

Its not ideal I know, but I'd rather have Basham as cover for injuries rather than Long......
I think we are so threadbare we will have to go for some seasoned pros to plug gaps, lets hope they are joined by a few starlets along the way

I’d find it hard to believe that there is absolutely no money available especially after selling Wood.
Our recruitment team is again looking quite pathetic. We should have a shortlist of players required and updated at all times. Yet we constantly seem to react far too slowly. Dyche doesn’t want to take any risks whatsoever as he always wants an angle to deflect blame from himself.

Or you could be normal and accept almost nothing happens in the first 2 weeks of any transfer window for any club.
Newcastle want a whole range of players and had to use the release clause to get a striker in early.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
The answer is not signing old pro's as stop gaps. That's exactly how we came to be in this situation in the first place. If we don't have the money to sign anything else then we shouldn't bother- I'd rather go down with what we have than go down with another few free loaders that will eat up further money and prevent us from ever getting out of this mess.

I don’t but what I do know is a reluctance to spend coupled with a heavy debt & you can actually triple reinforce that with the £25mil which so far incoming wise equates to bugger all, now I’m no Einstein but taking all that into consideration & what we’ve seen so far or heard about doesn’t inspire much confidence that financially all is well.Shaggy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 12:52 pmSorry but how would you know? I don’t know if they make time to watch some of the players they recommend, but researching potential signings and posting them in a place where nobody reading them has any involvement with BFC’s recruitment seems to be the definition of futility.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 1:03 pm1% of this thread is actual rumours about players linked by a variety of sources

Buts that’s the whole fun of it because rumours are few and far between, so why not talk about those we think we should purchase. After all we’re all managers at heart.

It would be interesting to have an additional locked thread for each window with worthy links posted on it by the mods.

Less than 15 signings in 18 days so far kind of backs up my point.
There will be more than that done in the last week. It is the same every window.

Don't get me wrong it would need big money and I am nit sure how bad the hit will be for us given his drop in form but he will definitely strengthen them at the backclaret2018 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:55 amNewcastle desperately need centre halves not attacking show ponies.
