Exactly this. We have no clue what they are or aren’t doing at the moment. We will know what they’ve achieved on 1st Feb though!clarethomer wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 1:19 pmNo one knows who we are interested in really.
Does anyone else get annoyed with the apparent lack of understanding that rumours are often without substance and that we shouldn't take everything we read at face value.
Whilst it's good to debate what's reported, when it gets to having a pop at the club about something outside their control and that may not even be true, it's a bit OTT?

I would like to know what the strategy is going forward, are they going into our biggest home game of the season with what we have? and seeing where we are after the game?Or I we trying to get some quality in to give us a fighting chance before the game? I for one hope the game is off because at the moment I don't have any faith in the latter!
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
The fact we are crying out for a RM and are not interested in him at 1-2m tells you everything you need to know.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 12:09 pmWallace has been at Millwall for almost 5 years and Swift for pretty much the same time at Reading, so why has nobody else spotted these talents
OK, so Wallace linked with Notts F today but are we looking for players to keep us up or merely throwing in the towel and signing players for the Championship
We are certainly going to struggle to attract Prem standard players to sign permanently this month so let's just concentrate on the loan market (inc overseas) and buy wisely in the summer based on what league we will be playing in
He’s not good enough.

You could say the same of Cornet why did no other premier league not sign him, Leeds looked but didn't think he was worth more than 10 million, Pope was signed from Charlton who had just been relegated to league one and who had ever heard of Tom Heaton before we polished him up,

£8m, price seems to have increased since last time we were linked a fair bit and surely they can’t afford to reject offers or say £4/5m…?ClaretAL wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 2:15 pmJason Knight...

Now Leeds are keen too, they probably beat us to this one. Would be nice to rebuild our midfield with young hungry talented players like Knight and Neil though.

No messing around, offer 6m full cash upfront not in instalments, for a 20 year old midfielder it's a no brainerClaretAL wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 2:15 pmJason Knight...

Then Dyche can play him in 4 years time

Can't edit so I'll add this, surley if the want 8 million and most clubs will pay 2 or 3 upfront and the rest over 3 year's then we come in with 6 million one off payment the Derby administrator's would take it

Looks like we have approached Palace about Benteke and they have valued him at £12m
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footb ... ments.html
I wouldn't give £12. We are we continually focussing on has been strikers who are big, immobile and slow? We already have that in Barnes. We need something better, far better if we are to survive.

If we're looking for a big handy CF, have a look at Michael Frey at Royal Antwerp, 2 goals today, 17 in 21 this season.
Their RW, Benson also has improved his passing/crossing this year, valued around £10m for both.

Good player I mentioned him on page 32 of this subject, they bought him in only July so just over six months into his contract, but that was for 1.8 million so 8/10 could possibly tempt them to sell

You can look at it one of two ways. We've made 13 million and Benteke or we've lost Wood and replaced him with someone similar.burnleymik wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 2:34 pmLooks like we have approached Palace about Benteke and they have valued him at £12m

It's a stop gap, but that's all it should be. A 2 year deal at most. If we stay up we move him down the pecking order or on loan to get something different in.

A 31 with no resale value-if we dont buy him I doubt anyone else would come in for him, not at that money. Maybe £5m but not £12m. Would rather Carol until this season end than him, as it keeps our powder dry. If this is the best SD and co can come up with they should leave it to the experts

Last 5 seasons stats in a Palace side who generally play attacking football, and create more than us..ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 2:48 pmYou can look at it one of two ways. We've made 13 million and Benteke or we've lost Wood and replaced him with someone similar.

2017 apps 31 goals 3
2018 apps 16 goals 1
2019 apps 24 goals 2
2020 apps 30 goals 10
2021 apps 20 goals 4
Overall Palace stats apps 167 goals 35, 1 goals per 5 games
For comparison, Wood was 1 in every 3 games.
If Benteke is the answer, I'm really struggling to see what the question or plan is.

I'm with you, I'd much rather get Caroll in, and either save the 12m or invest it in a starter for another area of the team.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 2:54 pmA 31 with no resale value-if we dont buy him I doubt anyone else would come in for him, not at that money. Which ever division we find ourselves in next season a 32 year old Benteke doesn't seem to be the answer.
He isn't a instant, short term, or long term fix.

Is he proven? Those stats say otherwise, he's hit 10 goals once in 5 years and averages 1 every 5 games in the last 5 seasons.ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 2:59 pmDepends on whether the "papers" are correct regarding Dyche's reluctance to go for anyone other than "proven" Premier League players.
I genuinely think he is no better than Jay or Vydra stats wise.
And if Dyche us targeting these players, maybe Pace needs to say no.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Benteke for that money would be daft. Thankfully he'll be on wages that we can't get anywhere near.

People on here saying if Dyche had any money he wouldn’t go for the 30+ types yet here we are, £25 million windfall and we’re still looking at old, slow players who wouldn’t improve us much. We need pace and skill rather than another immobile lump

CM and RM by far the most important signings this window.
We have Cornet back soon, one of our others can be the battering ram for Cornet.

I’m saying right now it’s low down on the priorities. Cornet is back soon and in reality we have 3 other strikers taking a wage if none of them can take the role of a partner to Cornet then why did we extend there contracts 8 months ago.

WHU vs Leeds has seen 5 goals, all from midfielders.
I think we’ve become conditioned to assume only strikers can score.

Save our money unless we can bag ourselves a bargain and bring in a Carroll on a free, he can't be any worse than Wood.
Try also to bring in a central midfielder or Right sided midfielder on loan.
We need to have one eye on the championship and the other on our bank balance otherwise we could be doing a Bolton or Pompey

I wouldn’t object at all to one up front (JRod), who can hold the ball up and link play really well, then three attacking midfielders behind, then two deep lying midfielders protecting the back four. Leeds playing that system now and have scored 4 (one disallowed). We just need attacking players with pace, not necessarily a striker.

If the papers are correct, then SD has become a liability. Totally agree. West Ham also play in exactly the way you’ve described and, although they’ve been pretty rubbish today, have had a fabulous 18 months.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 3:37 pmI wouldn’t object at all to one up front (JRod), who can hold the ball up and link play really well, then three attacking midfielders behind, then two deep lying midfielders protecting the back four. It was almost as if Dyche realised that’s the modern way to play and evolve in the league when he used the 451, but he’ll always revert to what he knows best when a few iffy results come around.
