How backwards has he gone, not been producing for a long time now bar the odd game or half a game.
Hasn't seemed to of progressed at all over the past twelve months. Need to start using Cornet as a winger because we aren't creating a thing

I'm not sure what his instructions are though to be fair. He seem to either play right or central at the moment, and poor Charlie has the full left hand side to cover

Overly hard on McNeil, I think; struggling for form in a struggling team and needs to be able to lurk in the shadows a bit more… why, I agree with you Comet should be on the wing offering an overlap (when fit).

Was he ever THAT GOOD? He showed glimpses of wing wizardry on occasion ,though his final balls and his right foot have always been poor. In a squad of painful mediocrity he was a spark but nothing more .

He's near the top of the league on defensive tackling stats.

We all knew Dyche would change him.

He needs an attacking manager to improve him now.

He has become fitter and stronger and puts in a lot of challenges and tackles. I think he lacks belief in his own ability. The coaches need to earn their corn with Dwight. He has too much to do at present. Needs to be given better guidance. We need to see more of him in the final third as we used to when he broke into the first 11. Then he was both scoring and assisting

Get him to shoot more coming off the right and getting in crosses. We need our forwards to attack more not constant backpassing and slowing down the attack.

I'd agree with the "squad of painful mediocrity" comment . We have a good defence but are lacking beyond that. DM would probably shine with more talented players around him. The body language of drooping shoulders and bowed head tells a story. Let's hope that Mr Pace digs deep for a quality central midfielder in January. It would probably tip the balance in favour of 'quality '.

To get the best out of McNeil's special talents, I believe he needs to be played centrally with licence to drift out to the left. That could come in a 433 formation, with McNeil as the left midfielder, or in a 352 formation.

He's our best technician by a country mile, and he also has the ability to drive forward with the ball and carry it like none of our other players do. He's also got a wicked delivery from open play and from set pieces. In a side with pace in front of him creating space and making runs, he'd be the star man without question.

I'd absolutely love to see us set up to get the very best out of him, but sadly we won't see it under the current setup.

Agree with ksr, I don’t understand why we’ve not seen more of Dwight in the 10. It would 1. Strengthen up the middle a touch by giving more passing outlets for the central two 2. Give us a different dimension, utilising his ability to find space and dribble out of tight situations 3. Allow Cornet to play in his best position on the left (think how good Robbie Brady was before his injury in this formation on the left, but how much better Cornet is than him).

Seen as though results have hardly been going our way and everyone can see our midfield two have struggled, it’s strange that it’s not even been tried.

We win as a team, we draw as a team and
today we lost as a team.

We are 1 game from being out of the bottom 3

He literally disappeared for the majority of the second half but still contributed more than Westwood and Brownhill put together. Carrying our midfield as the middle are so inept at passing or keeping the ball.

To my mind he is still the only one who carry's a real threat be it a cross or a shot

Re: Dwight McNeil

by CrosspoolClarets
The trouble is, while I support the need to a) go easy after a defeat, and b) not slate our best players, today the facts are:

McNeil touched the ball once in the penalty area all day (his late shot) and only had two other touches anywhere near the box. No dribbles all day, just that one shot.

It’s hard not to conclude it was a safety first strategy that prevented us going at them. Trouble is though we were behind for 50 minutes. So to be fair to Dyche maybe it is likelier that our best players froze on the day. That’s highly unfortunate and doesn’t really imply future world beaters. Attackers are judged on goals and assists, so Dwight sadly falls short too often. Not as though he doesn’t have targets in the box for his crosses, Wood is one of the best.

Have calmed down.
Didn’t sleep on the coach trip home.

He was very poor today, he kept turning back and passing back when he out wide.
When he moved inside he rarely got the ball, now it was either great cover by Newcastle or he was hiding by not finding space, that’s a debate that could be had, I am not sure which it was.

Given the potential he showed in his first season then it's difficult to say
he's progressed much. Memories of him getting to the byeline
or putting a dangerous cross in and/or beating a man and getting into space
are fading somewhat.
He's still making a contribution but not quite at the levels hoped for.

Not sure what Dyche thinks and/or whether he knows where best to deploy McNeil.

Why does he always turn back and play safe to the full back?

To keep possession
Because a CM is never available for a one two to set him off down the wing.

It's our tactics I'm afraid

it's poor and disrespectful referring to them as a shower of shite irrespective of the the time period. if you really valued their past achievements you wouldn't refer to them with such lack of decency - you would find a more balanced and sophisticated way of making your point.

One thing I noticed today was that when Taylor is taking a throw in in the opponents half McNeil often stands behind him in the full back position instead of down the line, even when just over the half way line, almost as if he is covering the full back position. What is that about?

Depends what you are gonna say…

If it’s “he’s a wonderful talent who will likely be poached by an established PL side in Jan”, then yes you are.

If it’s “ god knows what’s happened to him because the polish has rubbed off… maybe it’s that Dyche has coached the attacking instinct out of him” then no, you can’t.

Dyche is a weird fellow. He beats any skill or creativity out of anyone. He dod it to McNeil and he is starting to do it with cornet. Plays he best players out of position and stifling them. Tactically Dyche is clueless. A manager shows his worth when things are going wrong not when they are going well. Good managers know how to change games and change tactics when things aren’t working.

Honestly, I don’t think Dyche intentionally stifles anyone.

The reason we are so rigid with our formation and tactics is simply because we probably have the weakest squad in the league.
