Tony Loughlan

Post by helmclaret » Tue Dec 07, 2021 5:06 am

Can't help but think maybe he's the missing link this season?
I appreciate there are a lot of variables, but he's been with Dyche since the start.

If he did have a hip replacement surely he's out and about by now or did he decided to call it a day and retire early away from football?

TL was the mastermind behind a lot of the operation and will take a hell of a lot of replacing. We can look for variables until the cows come home, but the fact is, the day Tony left, we became weaker for it.

I assumed besides requiring a hip replacement he’d decided at the time of leaving not to return, whether that’s family reasons or otherwise I don’t know.

Similar to the way Loughlan ended up working for Dyche then.
Friends from years ago, did a bit of coaching at other clubs then got a gig with Dyche.

Sure that I’ve posted this before but I was at a dinner sat next to ex Forest keeper Mark Crossley who played with Dyche/Woan etc at Forest and he said to me that Loughlan was “the brains behind the outfit”.

Did he join the club at the same time SD was appointed or sometime afterwards?

Said this on another thread the other day that I think we missed a trick not making the most out of the Tony Loughlan situation and replacing him with someone with fresh ideas, new coaching sessions and a different view for Dyche to bounce things off.

Unfashionable as it may be footballers sometimes need the hard word. If someone is underperfoming and getting very well paid for it, they need to be told exactly what's needed . Tough if it offends them.

I'm sure I read that from you at the time it was announced he was leaving.

Tony's a really good bloke too. I don't know Stone but I've seen his behaviour on the touchline when he was in charge of the under-23s.

I don't think Tony wants to elaborate, otherwise he would have done.

From what I've seen of Stone he's a very direct and forthright person with a very steely look to his face.

You sometimes have to read between the lines.

I'm more curious about him being the brains behind the operation. Does that mean SD is just a front man? :)

FWIW I suspect Dyche is a highly intelligent guy. I'm don't think for a second he's lacking in grey matter.

But a second pair of eyes is often useful, as long as they're attached to somebody intelligent.

Stop being so soft and argumentative, nobody on here suggested anything to do with an internal bust up, just we're potentially worse off for someone leaving.

I appreciate there are a lot of variables, but he's been with Dyche since the start.
I thought the exact same thing a few weeks back, maybe he saw things that these 3 don't, be it attacking wise or defending, one thing that has always puzzled me, and i might be wrong but i always thought Ian Woan was a very good footballer, yet we still play an awful lot of Dycheball, but sometimes its best not to rock the boat, he'd be on very good money, so what Sean wants Sean gets.

There is an incredible amount of supposition in this thread.
I'd be amazed if the board or dyche had got rid of him, if he were that good.
It seems to be the way of the world currently.
In addition, he was there during other poor runs of form

From the club website July 8 this year: Burnley boss Dyche said: “Tony has done a fantastic job here as a key part of the staff but he now feels it’s a good time for him to undergo the further surgery he needs and the extended period of time required to make a full recovery."
Does that help anybody? Doesn't sound to me that there's anything more to it than that.

I disagree the bit about "the extended period of time required to make a full recovery." for instance.

It doesn't say that he's had a enough of the job and is leaving for good, just says that he's having as much time as he needs after the surgery.

Maybe he will be back time will tell.

Perhaps we should consider getting a few coaches in for specific areas. Its there another team in the league with just one first team coach?
Pretty sure most have multiple coaches specialising in different areas.

Surely it is better to not believe what Dyche has said about him and accept that new owners came in and while wanting Dyche to sign a new deal they potted one of his key staff :D Some of the ******** on here is priceless

Remember with Man Utd under Ferguson.. you often used to hear that actually, from those 'in the know', the brains behind the success was.. Brian Kidd. Then Steve McClaren. Probably that Portuguese fella too. And no doubt Mick Phelan. And yet in the end, it turned out it was Ferguson all along.

Great manager though he was, there were times when he wasn’t at his best (being polite) when it was all down to his assistants
