How many times have we been bottom 3 at Xmas?
Somebody just asked me this. Would anybody on here know? And did relegation usually follow? Thanks in advance

At a guess 14/15, and naturally 17/18, can't think of any others in the PL era.

We've got our work cut out, haven't we?

Interesting that by and large where we are at Christmas is where we have finished looking at those figures.claretburns wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 9:29 pmBurnley seasons in Premier League at Christmas

Re: How many times have we been bottom 3 at Xmas?
I’m taking some comfort in 18/19. 3 points adrift at the moment with a game in hand and better gd. Not pretending it’s easy but it’s one win chaps…one win. The annoying thing is the points that got away; 3 against Brighton, 2 v Leeds, 2 v Leicester and that’s not including the points possibly dropped for the sake of a mad 10 minutes at Everton.
I’m not one for cliches but Dyche is kinda right when he says small margins. But for small margins we could be mid table.

We've failed to improve on our Xmas position 7 seasons out of 8 in the Premier League. Dont show this to Spijed his head will explode.

True but small margins a couple of other seasons could have meant relegation as we won and drew a lot matches where we were lucky to get anything from the game.houseboy wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 11:36 pmI’m taking some comfort in 18/19. 3 points adrift at the moment with a game in hand and better gd. When we were the masters of pinching results it was not luck but down to our mentality, determination, rugged defending and taking the minimal opportunities we had. If thats how it works then by the same token we are not being unlucky now but we have just been poor in some of the key areas that used to get us results

Primarily because we haven't had to.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 9:39 amWe've failed to improve on our Xmas position 7 seasons out of 8 in the Premier League. Dont show this to Spijed his head will explode.

I'm taking comfort from the fact that the one season where we improved our position after Christmas was the one season where we HAD to.

If I’m reading that right we’ve only improved our Xmas position once so if that is telling a repeat of 18/19 might be neededclaretburns wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 9:29 pmBurnley seasons in Premier League at Christmas

Good point and it needs to be remembered we usually go on the beach once we're safe, so the fact our final few games will likely have an edge should ensure the lads remained focussed all season.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 2:11 pmI'm taking comfort from the fact that the one season where we improved our position after Christmas was the one season where we HAD to.

I'd also be interested to know how many points in those seasons we collected after being confirmed as safe. We seem to struggle to hold the same mentality when we have reached safety so perhaps this may also help us get a few extra points at the end of this season? I'm clutching at straws but it's all I've got!Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 2:11 pmI'm taking comfort from the fact that the one season where we improved our position after Christmas was the one season where we HAD to.

Good point tbf. But the trouble is this season we seem to be struggling with our mentality BEFORE we're safe!!Conroy92 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 11:15 amI'd also be interested to know how many points in those seasons we collected after being confirmed as safe.
