Your team vs West Ham
Your team vs West Ham
Every so often it’s necessary to try and break up a poor/unlucky run of results by making changes and ‘resting’ players who don’t necessarily deserve to be rested. Against West Ham I’d start with
Pope
Roberts Tarks Mee Taylor
JBG Westwood Cork McNeil
Wood Vydra
Vydra needs a couple of 90 minute games to give him a chance to improve his timing and tune in to the tempo of the PL.
Cork is more creative than Brownhill (who I like and is improving). We definitely need more creativity in central midfield.
Very tough on Lowton but we’ve a proven international overlapping right back standing by who’s raring to go.
Unless changes are made how will we know if they work or not?

Service to the front men has been crap and we have a readymade provider with a track record in Roberts yet some misguided loyalty to Lowton who has defended well recently but offered little or nothing attacking wise still gets selected, Cork for me had his best game for a while at Wolves whilst I thought Brownhill was as poor as it gets at Newcastle so Cork gets the midfield berth.

I cannot see SD changing from 442. Whether he should or shouldn't is worthy of debate but he won't change.
I would personally like to see Roberts given some games on the right-hand-side of midfield but it won't happen. Unless, unless SD's first plan for the lad is to give him game time in his usual position. Thing is, everyone has been saying Lowts has been playing well - and by and large he has from my restricted viewings - so I just can't see the boss dropping him. Whether he will repeat Saturday's move ie giving Roberts 15 minutes at the end to push forwards I don't know. Whatever he does with Roberts I think it's clear the lad needs to get some game time in order to get him into the system.
I don't know what to make of Brownhill to be honest. I think he's someone you need to see play in situ to get a real idea and that I can't do. I do know that I would love to see Dwight stick on the left wing and attack his full back. Get crosses in for Wood. As before.
Up front: I'd go with Chris Wood and MV for several matches. We all know we desperately need more goals from attackers. I still believe in MV even though he's not going to get enough goals to meet our needs.

Re: Your team vs West Ham
It doesn’t matter who starts in the wide positions, unless we increase the tempo and quality on the ball our wingers won’t get into space to put a decent ball into the box.ecc wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 7:49 pmI cannot see SD changing from 442. McNeil can’t do much on the wing because every time he receives the ball there he has at least two players to beat.

Re: Your team vs West Ham
TBH, it hardly matters which 11 starts.
What matters is running off the ball and creating "overloads", as they say these days.
Something we are not going to do by punting long balls up to Chris Wood.

Pope
Lowton Tarks Mee (Collins if Ben not fit, and possibly even if he is) Taylor
JBG Cork Westwood McNeil
Wood Jay
Cork needs to come in to give us a calmness in midfield which we've lacked this season, and despite Wood being off form he's still our best chance of a goal, Jay simply has to start after his impressive displays from the bench.

However ,if the capable Collins has to continue deputising for Ben then I can’t see Dyche selecting Roberts for Lowton because that would be 2 changes to our normal back 4 and not something Dyche is known to do. Especially if he gives Rodriguez a start making it 3 changes.
When was the last time Dyche made 3 changes to our normal line up in a league game?

Re: Your team vs West Ham
Harsh as it may sound to the players left out as they aren't playing badly tbf, I'd be tempted to include Cork (at the expense of Brownhill) Collins (at the expense of Mee and Roberts (at the expense of Lowton) Something needs to change and switching personnel can sometimes be the catalyst. Collins and Cork both deputised well last week and Collins in particular would rightly feel aggrieved to be moved aside.
On another note: Does anyone know for sure Cornet's injury status? It will be absolutely crucial.

Re: Your team vs West Ham
Has John Lennon got enough pace nowadays
Sorry to say JBG has been very ineffective lately
Would rather Cork in the middle with Brownhill on RHS or, yes, give Roberts a chance, keeping Brownhill in the middle
We can speculate on the names but the format of 4-4-2 will remain

Agree entirely with this, something has to change, we can’t keep repeating the same thing week on week.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 10:53 amHarsh as it may sound to the players left out as they aren't playing badly tbf, I'd be tempted to include Cork (at the expense of Brownhill) Collins (at the expense of Mee and Roberts (at the expense of Lowton) Something needs to change and switching personnel can sometimes be the catalyst. We have limited options for change so we have to run with the obvious ones whether they seem ‘harsh’ or not, not that I think they are, so for me that would be Roberts and Cork in for Lowton and Brownhill.

I know Roberts is untried there, but I think we need to try something else, so would give him a try on the right of midfield and see if he and Lowton can work well together, cover each other and offer something different.

Why is there such demand for Lowton to be dropped? He has been arguably our most consistent player over the last half dozen or so games

My mind goes back to that West Ham game at home a couple of seasons ago where we were in the mire and battling relegation. Tom Heaton came back into the side that day and we saw the emergence of Dwight McNeil in the Premiership. I'm struggling to see a similar spark here with this line up, but that's the best 11 we have in my mind. Hopefully a good week of training has taken place since Newcastle and they can give us a strong performance resulting in the 3points.

Because Roberts could potentially be a better option? We shouldn't be blindly sticking with players just because "they're doing OK".StuffyClaret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 10:56 amWhy is there such demand for Lowton to be dropped? Re: Your team vs West Ham
Lowton set up the best chance of the game with his ball in to Vydra. However Roberts is the future. A tough one for Dyche.
I would be inclined to start with line up we finished with at Newcastle, a bit tough on JBG who played well first half at St James.

I'm sure if we had a strong enough bench 3-4 of tomorrow's likely starting line up would be on the bench at best. As that\s not the case, I'd like to see Roberts come in for JBG, I think its worth a try.

Back to "hard to beat" for me!
4-5-1
Pope
Lowton Tarks Mee Taylor
Roberts Brownhill Cork Westwood McNeil
Wood
Brownhill to sit on Rice as he is a crucial playmaker for them. Roberts to provide strength and pace to support Lowton on our right flank plus long throws and crosses when we can get men forward. I would sit in a bit deeper than usual and not give space for Bowen, Antonio and co. to run into. JBG has been a bit lightweight for me this season although I would like him available as a sub if needed for 30 mins? No reason at all to drop Lowton - he has been strong and positive in what has been a poor season so far.

It would be harsh on Lowton but the idea is we have 1 win in 13, were all round shocking against Newcastle and Roberts looks more attacking / has a very good long throw. Seen as though set pieces are one of our biggest threats it’s not really a stupid suggestion to bring him in is it?

You’re making out like Lowton has been playing like Alexander Arnold. He’s been good but even Taylor has been better lately. Like I said we’ve had one win in 13 so suggesting a new signing who probably will give more going forward and has a corner like long throw is hardly a bizarre idea. Something clearly needs to change and quickly.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 4:51 pmWhy drop your best player this season for someone that’s not even tried at this level?

Off course he hasn’t played like him. We are talking about levels here, the gap between the championship and premiership is massive.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 4:55 pmYou’re making out like Lowton has been playing like Alexander Arnold. Roberts has played all of his career at that level, he will have prove he can play at this level before we even consider dropping Lowton (our best performer this season).
