Premier League on hold
With the games being called off building up thick and fast surely there is a way to just put the season on hold over Christmas and catch up later in the season? Especially with the winter World Cup next year.
There could end up being real disparity in the amount of games in hand teams could have at this rate.

It's possible yes, but a decision will have to made soon, as many folks will have already made preparations for the festive fixtures.
Mind you the fans are usually at the bottom of the list in terms of priority.

It's going to be with us for a long time to come. Do we simply hide away again? 5 players missing from Watford? A good dose of the sh!ts in a squad would do that. I say, make 'em play unless 8 players are unavailable !

Absolutely steaming about this, the weather you can’t control but this is a disgrace. No choice now but to suspend this farce of a competition because the PL have chosen to descend it in to chaos,

PL Rules are too lax, incompetent
Re: Premier League on hold
Maybe the Premier league need to warn teams ALL games will go ahead regardless off covid outbreaks.
Every Premier league team has 25 players minimum, then many have full academy in operation too.
Maybe then clubs will take more care, and also keep their players in check a bit more if points, positions and ultimately money is a stake.
I'm not having Watford didn't have 16 players tonight that didn't "have covid" , other injuries are irrelevant.
Maybe training, travel etc needs to be thought about more.
Burnley had Mee and Stephens out with covid at seperate times this season, it was only 1 player each time and it effected no other members of the squad or coaches etc.
Why should clubs doing the right thing and being careful be punished?

Because football needs to fall in line with how our entire society looks after the ones who do not do the right thing during a pandemic

Re: Premier League on hold
the problem with that is if a team fields an under strength team in a league game before an important cup tie (for example) then the league comes down on them - they set the precedent so it puts them in a hard placeRalphCoatesComb wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 5:27 pmIt's going to be with us for a long time to come. Depressing state of affairs. Maybe we need to come up with better hobbies that don't involve mixing, socialising, and having a good time which are incompatible with modern life now.
I think weekly painting of NHS rainbows over Zoom would be a good replacement for the footy.

I think a circuit break will happen for 4 weeks and all squads bubbled, but will be interesting to see how this affects the schedule and next years world cup.

How about, postpone the game because of Covid, but those players that were available on the day of the original fixture are the only ones who can be selected for the rearranged fixture regardless of whether they are now fit or not?

Because the reason the PL suspend games is due to squad severely depleted in one area, they've said it's nothing to do with the number of positive cases more the position the players missing play in.
Re: Premier League on hold
Herd immunity would've solved this issue a long time ago, hiding away only lengthened the problem.

Re: Premier League on hold
I get loads of travel issues, like many….my fault for living on the Isle of Man……spurs off so a weekend of ferry, train, Prem inn, plane cancelled etc……..all part of the fun
Today same ferry, car, etc….to see called off at 5pm
Appreciate everything about keeping us safe but to see the Watford team coach bimble by as I got the call
It’s a sodding joke…..
And I’ve got everything booked for Boxing Day, UTD away……
Sorry for a moan, but as I sit In the Prem Inn can’t say I’m a happy bunny.

I think it's Everton at home on Boxing Day (26th) Man United game is at Old Trafford on 30th December? Hope I am correct with this information. You never know nowadays. Just checking that you and others know this.

But unvaccinated contact of a confirmed case must isolate for 10 days, that could be all 16 other squad members.
Unless you are demanding mandatory vaccination for footballers vaccinated or they must provide proof of vaccination, the libertarians on this board will be outraged.
Re: Premier League on hold
I'm not sure the people who contracted the virus can be blamed, are they supposed to lock themselves in a room 7 days a week and only play at the weekend? They could've caught it from absolutely anywhere blaming the individual for ''not doing the right thing'' doesn't make sense.MACCA wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 6:11 pmMaybe the Premier league need to warn teams ALL games will go ahead regardless off covid outbreaks.

PL clubs have to name a 25 man squad at the start of the season, all of those 25 players aren't in the matchday squad.
Watford would've had 16 players to play and it's likely the PL called the game off not Watford.
If they had named 2 goalkeepers in their matchday squad, both test positive, then what? force teams to play with an outfield player in goal? what an absolute farce that would be, like the joke in Portugal with Benfica playing against 9 men and 2 goalkeepers playing outfield due to covid outbreak. Doesn't exactly promote fair play.

I wouldn’t even begin to explain Man U and Liverpool at home week!!!!
Re: Premier League on hold
If they put the PL on hold, they won't be able to restart until the position improves. And since the official policy appears to be trending towards long term lockdown, that may very well be the other side of 2022.
They might have another year and more of zero crowds, and then crowds again for 6 months, and then zero crowds again, until the lower leagues disappear and football is an entirely TV sport with no spectators at all.

Re: Premier League on hold
Interesting. Where does that data come from?
The most recent studies I can find in the BMJ and Lancet make no reference to this, in fact the lancet says a study in France showed that mortality rates of hospitalised patients were over 3 times that for Covid than flu across all age ranges. In under 17’s while hospitalisation rates were greater for flu the mortality rates are 10 times higher for covid.
It goes without saying that the lethality of the virus increases significantly in old age and that is seen in overall data, but saying that statistically flu is more likely to kill younger people is, I suspect, wide of the mark. Of course if there are some decent studies that show the opposite then that would be useful to see.

Re: Premier League on hold
I am really torn about this, I recently lost a double jabbed cousin in his 50’s to Covid he caught it and four days later was dead, he had no underlying conditions and was not overweight so in that way I prepared to give up watching football for the greater health of the population.RicardoMontalban wrote: ↑Thu Dec 16, 2021 8:13 amAnd given the speed with which the virus mutates and immunity drops off… also not a viable option. Firstly, I’m really sorry for your loss.
I guess the difference between now and then is it’s a different world. The advances in science has been immeasurable and what we can do around vaccines is completely different. And the communications we have now are again, a different world. The feeding of information (for good or ill) to a population is again several orders of magnitude more advanced. Not to mention the speed with which populations move about.
It’s not a like for like comparison but then these things seldom are unfortunately.

Just reading that, difficult to see how it would help to be honest. Unless all players and staff are banned from contact with anyone else.
Re: Premier League on hold
Premier League on Hold Season Ticket not renewed would be my headline. There is no way after 15 years or more of driving from Lincolnshire for our home games that I am going to gamble anymore on rearranged fixtures..... Friday night, Saturday Night, Monday evening and late Sunday games being scheduled when a TV boffin thinks it wise. Having two cancelled fixtures when I am on the M62 has proved to be the straw. We will revert to taking our chance and buying tickets for "special" games and be more selective in 2022/23 season and save a few pounds whilst watching it on the TellyBox, car in the garage.
I guess it doesn't help that I have this illogical thought that I enjoyed Championship games more than the current football, I enjoyed Leagues 1 and 2 when we were not great but it was Burnley. The food at Cambridge was a delight, Scunthorpe ran out of pies, Plymouth we had a conga and supporting Burnley was a great feeling even if we didn't win, it is becoming for me a chore in the PL.
