Considering all the protocols the clubs are supposed to follow, to avoid Covid, it appears that they have a higher infection than the normal population!
I’d bet they don’t, you’d be amazed if you knew how many of us really are infected, they’re just tested far more

Indeed. The number of footballers dropping dead from this virus is shocking.

;)
Does that possibly mean the masks are doing a better job than some people think bearing in mind what it could possibly be like without people wearing them.

I get that lots of you feel inconvenienced but it’s been postponed for a valid reason there’s no need to search for a conspiracy.

covid is a valid reason, injuries are not - the reason given by the PL for the postponement was "new injuries"

It stinks

Given the rate the virus is spreading, I would say that masks make little to no difference whatsoever.

Everton are using C-19 as an excuse NOT to play a team in the bottom 3... shame on them !

I agree,

I think the precedent has been set now, this could benefit us in future if we have a few off with covid.

I think it’s the right decision all round. Just unfortunate that Cornet now won’t be with the squad

Would I have bought my Season Tickets this season if I had known that so many games were going to end up being night matches? Travelling for an evening match means an afternoon off work and a late night/early morning return down the A1. No it just wouldn't have made financial sense, I would have picked the games, so as I am already sad to be almost certainly not renewing my beloved seats in the JHU for 22/23 I wonder what fixture chaos next years World Cup will finally bring as well. If I am in say a 10% of season ticket holders thinking this way how many fans are clubs going to lose going forward?

Injuries are a valid reason because coupled with covid it affects the number of players available.

Two day home games more could easily have been moved to Monday nights too for tv in a non covid year. I have to travel too so isn’t worth it given that risk.

Really bad news. I fear that we are going to find it difficult picking up points when all these postponed games are played.

Agree based on the difficulty at the best of times, should be some leeway granted for some sort of flexibility to avoid fixture congestion when things finally restart normally.

I’ll go with the scientists as my final comment I don’t wish to run with this as it’s diverting away from the Everton postponement, good evening.

Benetiz gave clear intent to the PL of his aim of getting this game postponed. It was predicted on here yesterday by every poster that this would happen and yet the PL simply rolled over and took the line of least resistance. It is a shameful surrender without so much as a pretence of fairness or discipline.

Funny I always thought they were known as the Toffees. :)

Regarding your sentiment I completely concur, and it would be poetic justice if we stuffed them 3-0 when they finally deign to show up at TM, preferably with their first team so they can't have any excuses if we beat them.

In all my life I have never known a game called off due to injuries. Squads have lived with injuries for decades and got on with it.

Everton have 5 players out with Covid. That’s not a significant number and shouldn’t factor in the decision making process. They wanted it called off because they have a lot of injuries, Covid is just a convenient excuse. As I suspect it was for Villa and Watford.

I bet they’d play the game with the exact same players out with Covid if their injuries didn’t exist, and for me that’s wrong.

Where injuries are a factor they should declare the injury lost in full and those same players shouldn't be allowed to play in the rescheduled game. Would discourage teams from declaring anything other than genuine injuries. If any player is declared I jured in a bid to have a game called off they're not allowed to play the game. Would be a massive step towards sorting this mess out.

I’d understand the argument if we were Barcelona world beaters or something the argument simply doesn’t stack up, a under strength side with luck & playing well could still pick a result up against us, nobody should fear us & equally we shouldn’t fear anybody else in the league.

I disagree to be honest. If we were Barcelona (of old) any team would concede that they were unlikely to take points from the game in any event and get it out the way vs delay it and heap further fixture congestion on themselves. These teams all see us as a good chance for 3 points and don’t want to risk a loss in an otherwise winnable game.

I’ve suggested a few approaches as to how to deal with this issue, which evolves with each new reason offered by clubs for postponements, but in my opinion injuries/illness should not count and clubs should have to have a minimum level of Covid absentees from their squad (e.g. 25%, 30% - a significant number, anyway).

With injuries being factored, mysterious overnight “knocks” can occur and the whole system manipulated. Which is exactly what Everton have done on this occasion.

Fact is you don't, you're just another forum know it all who claims to know more than leading scientists, virologists and the World Health Organisation. Just because Covid is spreading doesn't mean mask wearing doesn't work.
So like I said are you going to tell us when and where you graduated with your degree in virology.

If the season is played out the smaller squads will be in trouble due to the congested fixture schedule. All of a sudden the teams who currently can't field 14 players will be making 8 changes a game to keep players fresh whilst the smaller teams end up with 12 or 13 knackered outfield first team players.

Everton, having eventually had the game postponed due to injuries and positive covid test results. Everton’s next game against Newcastle, would it be right to assume that this game should also be postponed, seeing as it’s only 6 days away and positive test results require a period of isolation.
Will Everton want their home game on the 30th to go ahead. Maybe Everton have more injuries to be announced.

Just wondering..

Is there any other sport where a participant (team or individual) isn't automatically awarded a win by default if they are ready and able to play a match but the opposition backs out?

There are plenty of scientists who agree they don't work, but sadly, Boris will only listen to the SAGE ones (when it suits him that is!)

Could you possibly tell me how an old man wearing a mask below his nose, purchased from his local supermarket, where it states quite clearly on the packaging, that it is not PPE protection is safeguarding himself or others please? :?

So now Burnley with one of the smallest squads in the Premier League, have yet another mid-week fixture to squeeze in. When we have all of these postponed games to play, bang, bang, bang, one after another, what relief do we yet from the League for our injuries and fatigue?

I can guarantee the three teams that allegedly couldn’t make up a team against us would’ve found a way if that were the sanction.

I'd fully expect that fixture to bite the dust as well, and if it somehow does go ahead then Burnley & Sean Dyche should kick up merry hell in the media.

I think when the season is called off, players and football staff should be laid off until we get another season going in August. They ought to be made redundant like they would be in any other profession when their role is no longer viable.
So you think BFC should payout redundancy and then release the whole squad. And then have to buy a whole new squad to keep us in the PL in time for when the season restarts? Good thinking.

Not just BFC, of course, unless we’re the only club who can’t get a game on. I’d just rather not have them sitting doing nothing for 6 months on their full salary. Doesn’t seem fair to me.

Doing it my way, we may even get to recruit some better players, IT.

It depends whether Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison have recovered by then. It may be, in view of the vast riches that Newcastle may be able to spend in the transfer window, that several injured players will recover.

Just glancing through tomorrow's fixtures. Lots of games off, but amazingly none of the Sky live games. Strange that, but very fortunate for Sky.

Just glancing through tomorrow's fixtures. Lots of games off, but amazingly none of the Sky live games. Strange that, but very fortunate for Sky.
I’m pretty sure Liverpool vs Leeds was on sky.

They just put one of the other games on instead

With the early timing of the postponements, there is still more reason why an alternate away team could have been found where only one team has been sidelined by covid and "injuries"

I know that this is at a different level, but the boxing day fixture was always one which was prone to postponement as players and officials didn't want it. Its fine for fans, but a pain in the backside having to do preparation work on Xmas day.

I can't get that to play for whatever reason, but thanks anyway.

It won't change my mind that masks make little difference and are just visual theatre in an any case.

I was thinking the same. Our support both home and away seems to be really dwindling this season, this fiasco is only going to make things worse, along with the extra hassle of vaccine passports.

That was the early game on BT. They're letting them show Spurs v Palace at 3 o clock instead.

I think it’s clear that teams are manipulating the situation to give them the best chance of picking up a positive result when the fixtures are re-scheduled.

Unfortunately for us with the now likely fixture pile up, Dyches reluctance to rotate not that we have a big enough squad to rotate anyway this could well be the tipping point which sends us down.

When it comes to football the Premier League has no say whatsoever.
Everyone bar themselves, knew that this was never going to happen.
Further injuries my arse.

They should’ve either paused all games or insisted all fixtures are fulfilled or forfeited. Then there wouldn’t be a problem. I think United will be on but I think Leeds might be at risk.

They should have done exactly that, however that would require the PL having the balls to take tough decisions, which sadly they appear to be sorely lacking.

Tend to agree Man U will go ahead, but I fear our trip to Leeds won't happen on 2nd Jan, pity as the Everton & Leeds fixtures probably represented our best hope of putting points on the board over the festive season, now that's not to say we can't get a result at OT, but realistically it would be a bonus if we did pick up even a point.

And though games in hand look good, it's the amount of pressure we'll be under when these games are finally played that concerns me, especially if we are several points adrift of the sides above us in the table.
