Just one attacking player on the bench tonight.... still, I guess we'll be mostly defending.

If we get something from this game it will be the best points we've ever earned in the Prem.
Really sad considering the missing are hardly likely to be injured, with no game in the last 18 days, I've moaned about other clubs players not being vaccinated, so it would be wrong not to moan about our own. When fans can't get into the ground without a covid passport, even if they've paid for a season ticket it's time all players manned up and did their bit.
You can still test positive with three vaccinations.

Don't be so naiveNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 7:40 pmI don’t think the premier league are applying a different set of rules to us as they do with everyone else? Otherwise that would be corrupt and our club would have a case to sue the league?

The starting lineup has our first team back 4, Hennessey who has never let us down and JBG, Cork, Westwood and McNeil, along with Wood upfront - it's missing Pope and Cornet, but it's not like we're playing the under 23s. The bench is naked, but the first 11 is hardly rubbish.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 7:37 pmWe only ever had an outside chance, that team hasn't a snowball in hells.

They made up injuries, I think you'll find, not Covid cases.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 7:41 pmYep I’m sure they faked covid results (even though it’s done by an external company) to get games called off.

Without doubt a number of PL clubs have requested postponements and been successful, with a team no where near as badly affected as ours tonight

I don’t think the PL are at fault here.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 7:42 pmOk so you are seriously suggesting that the premier league is corrupt with the aim of giving Burnley grief?
I absolutely do believe that Benitez and Howe have done what was in their best interests in terms of notifying the league of injuries.
As, on that teamsheets evidence, we absolutely should have done.

No, but I'd seriously assert that some teams recently have played the system to suit their own ends and got away with it and unfortunately Burnley have been on the receiving end of that more than any other. Nobody is suggesting conspiracy. We are suggesting that others have played the injury card for their advantage. Having looked at them warming up, I would have thought Pieters would have started instead of Lennon. I know that means 3 left footers in midfield with McNeil, JBG and Pieters, however last season in particular, we saw Pieters come on as a sub and play a big part as a wing man.Very experienced and gets stuck in. Do we think he is out of favour this season

But Cornet won't have have had any match time in a while - which makes it unlikely he'll start vs Leeds. Even being benched today and 10 minutes at the end would have been something.conyoviejo wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 7:49 pmI'd rather have them missing for this game and fit for Leeds game.
Which begs the question, why we bothered trying to keep him longer before the ACON.

It’s not about the PL, nor a conspiracy theory.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 7:46 pmIt’s probably just how it comes across on text. I just don’t understand the conspiracy theories. What would the premier league benefit from allowing other teams to postpone and not us?
It’s about clubs bending the rules to suit them when key players have gotten knocks, and is not doing.
You’re quite right - if I am correct in my assessment, I am as mad at Dyche as I am at Howe and Benitez, but for the opposite. The old adage ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’ has never been more true than right now. We are on an absolute precipice (potentially of financial ruin after relegation, we will see) and I would have hoped our manager would ‘play the game’ like our rivals are clearly willing to do.
Dyche is a stubborn guy, playing this game tonight for him is something I think he will see as a badge of honour (I.e, “See, my squad is tiny - but we were never asking for this off like some would” etc). Unfortunately, IF we get tubbed, that ‘honourable’ intention will look laughable.
Just my thoughts.
