Apart from Tarks, who else is likely to jump ship this window?

Post by RalphCoatesComb » Fri Dec 31, 2021 2:26 pm

It is obvious that we need to strengthen up front but who is likely to leave?

It was a little worrying that Nick Pope wasn't present last night. Hope it was just a Covid issue.

I’d put good money on Vydra going in January.

1 Pope was out with covid
2 Don't think Tarky is jumping any ship, he's out of contract and can do what he wants to.

Are you trying to imply that possibly Nick Pope was left out of the team last night because we are going to sell him this window?
And that is worrying you?

As I've just posted above, Pope tested positive for covid.

Yes I know that, you know that but Ralph seems to be implying that maybe he didn't play because of something more sinister. 😀

Don't know, but equally we can't force him to move, and as long as he's committed I'd keep him for the rest of the season, especially given Brentford will reap a fair amount of any transfer fee.

Can we afford to sell him for peanuts? Which will seriously weaken us!

It’s a flip between selling and getting a little money assuming a bid comes in that is which will likely see us go down. Or keep let go for free and hopefully stay up. No brainier for me it has to be the latter.

I don’t like letting players run out a contract. Even more so this season with the possibility of it being extended beyond their contract. They surely must start worrying about picking up injuries and start ducking challenges.

Collins has looked good enough to start and if necessary Charlie can slide across one and Pieters comes in at LB. I’d flog him and put it all on a striker.

Minnie, id be tempted to agree. Recent line -up options have been either lacklustre or have put in gutsy but losing performances against the bigger clubs. It's wins that are going to pull us out of this mess, not defensive performances that end in 0-1 defeats.
Sell Tarks, slot in our various new and existing defenders and bring in quality that isnt injured and can immediately give the team some pace and oomph in midfield or up front. All sounds so simple!!

Tarkowski is one of our best players so he should certainly play while he's here especially when you consider our league position. Plenty of time for Collins who has looked impressive.

I wish Tarkowski would pack his bags and clear off to ''take control back of his own career''. As Simon Jordan would say, he's the chairman of the Tarkowski fan club. Frankly sick of seeing him play for us, overrated and believes his own hype thinking he's Steven Gerrard on the ball.

We need players who want to be here, the ones who don't can clear off. Collins looks twice the player anyway.

Adios enjoy the bench elsewhere and enjoy playing for England in your dreams.

So you'd want a player to 'clear off', even if it meant we were relegated as a consequence?

I want players here who want to play for Burnley, not some overrated lump with ideas above his station who went public to say how desperate he was to take back control of his own career.

I think a move away would be best all round, if he couldn't make a start on Thursday at Old Trafford then his days with us seem numbered.

we were mid relegation scrap while he was sat publicly telling anyone who'd listen how desperate he was to leave. A complete lack of respect and not something to air publicly. I'm sure when Spurs came knocking Tripps was desperate to leave, did he go public? no he left with dignity, respectfully. Not to mention, Tarkowski isn't even that good! he'll end up chasing the money at Newcastle or 4th choice at Leicester.

Not fit enough to start I think no idea just remember Dyche mentioning it as the reason he didn’t start.

Tarkowski been our best player for a while now. He’d do well for Leicester, is far better than the wooden Vestergaard and arguably Soyuncu of late.

You are free to air your opinion. I just don't agree telling someone to feck off in the middle of a relegation fight is sensible.

You don't need that much common sense to realise it's best to keep him for the remainder of the season unless we get a decent offer.

He's not good enough to warrant begging to stay, Collins is the future. Good central defenders don't concede the type of goals he gifted to Southampton. I don't care if you're Steve Davis, Andy Gray, Jason Shackell or James Tarkowski, if you want to go public and sulk about how desperate you are to leave, adios.

I understand the point you are making, and I agree he should have kept his thoughts to himself, maybe he got bad advice from his agent, who knows. I don't think it's affected his playing performances, surely if it did Collins would now be starting more games (I think he will be a super replacement for either Tarks or Ben).
I think Spurs triggered the release clause so Tripps didn't need to say anything or kick off.

Should've known after his tricks at Brentford to force a move here, a leopard doesn't change it's spots.

And you're right about Tripps and the release clause but Tripps would never have gone public mid season regardless of how desperate he was to leave.

I'm struggling to think of any footballer being so open in an interview about his desire and desperation to leave his club.

people on here hated Shackell for the way he left and it was nowhere near as bad as that interview.

Burnley FC are a business at the end of the day.
We want the best out of our investment which JT is. If we receive a good offer, we'll sell. If we don't, we get the best out of him for another 5-6 months. He's hardly causing a problem in the dressing room.

I want players here who want to play for Burnley, not some overrated lump with ideas above his station who went public to say how desperate he was to take back control of his own career.

Loving "overrated lump".... been our best defender for some time.
However, I do agree that it's time he went.
Collins is fine, and another £10m plus would help us find another back-up CB

It’s nothing nobody knew he’s been wanting away for yonks if he wasn’t tied down contractually blitzing off into the sunset would have happened long before that toe incident.
