Nail your colours to the mast
I think we stay up but that was a body blow.
Need to massively freshen up the squad.
I stick with Dyche regardless of whether he takes us down (particularly) or keeps us up!
I back him to survive or get us back up. But that is when the discussion starts.
Make no mistake - that was a game we should have been more competitive today but we fell short.
Signings and belief otherwise it's back to doing the hard mile in the Championship.

Down and a change of manager (but only because I sincerely think Dyche’s heart won’t be in it 100% for another crack at the Championship)
Make a good managerial appointment, clear out a lot of the deadwood and we can have a successful season next year. We’d be one of the favourites to bounce straight back and rightly so.

I do hope he keeps us up but after todays massive defeat i am struggling to see it, we have the oldest team playing, plenty out of contract and leaving, if we go down cannot see any way back lacking any kind of ideas, needs to start by playing full strength in cup to try and get some confidence back.
Keep the faith and hope we can finish 4th bottom and go next year

We are supporters so support.
We all have players we love and players we wouldn’t have near the team but that is the managers job. That first win of the season sets you up for the year. Throwing 5 points away against Brighton & Leeds was a disaster. It is all confidence and we have none.

I don’t think Dyche should go. Mainly because I can’t see us attracting anyone decent at this time of year given the position we’re in.
I think we’re going down though. We’re a very poor side now relative to our competition, as demonstrated by rancid results over a full year and a defeat today to a Leeds side with several injuries to key players.

Where there is hope you feel you always have a chance. But alas this season I feel we are going down I will always support Burnley whichever division we will be in .But this season is so far the most depressing one I've witnessed and that includes the dark days of the 80's.I don't think I have ever thought we may not win a game again in a season but im feeling like that at the moment

Re: Nail your colours to the mast
Going down - 100%.
The squad is stale, unfit, old and (in some cases) lazy. Too many are out of contract and know they’re done at Burnley, and probably happy to see that they don’t need to suffer a wage reduction as they can walk out on us.
Dyche to stay, for me. His credit in the bank is still there and let us remember his record please in the Championship. We owe him the first 3-6 months of that campaign as much as he owes us to stay and keep his strong jaw high. What this season has proven is that we are the right match - Dyche is not ‘too good for us’ as I think, at times, he has come across as believing in his media work. There is a fork in the road now but I hope both the club and the manager choose the same path.
We will come back up with Dyche in charge, and with a whole load of stale performers leaving the club. I’d also sell Tarky this window whilst we can still get £15m or so, and if someone’s willing to give us £25m+ for McNeil get that done too. Let’s prepare for the league below and perhaps get a few in with an eye on that league. I’d chat with Vydra and see if he’s willing to sign a deal for a year on the basis that he’s lethal in that league, if not, get him flogged too for whatever pennies we can get.
Time to be radical and forward thinking.

Real sickener today. We have been here before. We looked dead and buried against Everton on Boxing Day a few years ago.
We will stay up.
We will stay up.

He has to go
But, he won't walk and Pace won't sack him
Just pray another club comes in for him when the inevitable happens and we go down

Re: Nail your colours to the mast
I don't think we'll stay up. Our points per game tally over that last 12 months has been woeful, and the change in form would have to be astronomic.
I've always said that Dyche deserves another go at getting us out of the Championship should we go down, but now I'm also in two minds about that.
Re: Nail your colours to the mast
50% of me agrees but then the ither 50% is tired of seeing what Dyche offers up as a standard of football, which is not all his problem as past transfer windows have seriously affected his hand but its the defensive 442 and long ball to channels, and the mantra of legs hearts mind is definitely no longer on show with the squad, they don't seem to be able to even pass a ball to each other.DAVETHEVICAR wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 4:08 pmCrazy to change manager even if relegated

Re: Nail your colours to the mast
I'd stick with SD with a good transfer window because who else do we get? However, I was firmly a "In Dyche We Trust" camp but I don't think he can get a tune out of this set of players. We're not playing too badly, Man Utd I'd say we were very good. However, we're not winning so the system/tactics/personnel is/are not working and change is needed which SD doesn't seem to be able to do. This reminds me a little of the end of Stan Ternant's time as manager. Things have gone very stale.
I have to say though I don't blame SD for this current mess. Mike Garlick shouldn't be allowed near the place again. Him & his board ran this club into the ground for the sake of lining their own pockets. For all the years of banking the Prem money what have we to show for it? NOTHING!

Dyche to stay for me, though I’d hope and expect that a rebuild would bring with it a better style of football.
I think we’ve lost our identity - we’re no longer hard to beat, our pressing and making it difficult for the opposition has been on the wain for a long time and as for creativity, it’s bordering on non-existent.

i fully appreciate the magnificent job Sean Dyche has done for the club maintaining our Premier League status over the years and he will always be a BFC legend to me but I now think its time to move on.
Not sure a new manager will keep us up - probably not - but we need a change to put new life into the club.

Re: Nail your colours to the mast
The team selection today and use of bench was awful today
Collins and Roberts need to start next game as does Vyds and Jay
Jack Cork is allegedly playing for new deal ?
Why did Erik and Dale not start in midfield
We should have raised our game when Max scored not gutlessesly rolling over.

I want him to stay and rebuild the squad . Start again , we will have some money and some good young players . Sell who we have to and crack on . Maybe a drop down will be good way to do it . Getting rid of Sean will destabilise us too much . Let him have a crack at building a new team .

I've asked this question before and not had it answered - how many times under Dyche (in the Prem) have we lost the first goal and then come back to win?
Apart from Villa (home) last year, I can't recall any.

We don't need a poll for this. The Dyche Out brigade are all over this forum, especially after a bad performance.
Thankfully, Alan Pace and Associates decide who is at the helm.
There is plenty of time to pull this around but, it will be done the Dean Dyche way and not "We've got Billions and will spend ourselves out of this" (à la Newcastle United).

You know the answer, not many.
But I'm not sure it's relevant where our entire identity used to be about taking the lead and defending it to FT. When it worked we won, when we conceded we lost. It served us well many seasons.

Gone. Absolutely gone.
That’s not a lack of support, I went today and supported the lads throughout. I will continue to do so. That’s me staring facts in the face and accepting the inevitable. By all means you bury your head in the sand and wait for the big fella….
Lack of investment over the past three years will prove to have been the nail in the coffin.
It’s all Well and good people coming out with shite like “I would rather have gone down with garlick in charge than these” but ultimately there would have been no need to go down at all had garlick and his cronies supported the manager properly at the right time.

To be fair, I don’t think AMYONE is advocating spending our way out of it….. I’m sure everyone knows this can’t be done. 100% gone. We are a terribly coached team for the league we compete in.
Re: Nail your colours to the mast
Actually, I don't know the answer and would like to know. Sure, it's not many. So it tells us of a pattern over several seasons that we haven't got enough goals/skill/grit/adaptable tactics/ * insert word of choice, to overturn going behind.CombatClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 5:01 pmYou know the answer, not many.

In effect, when we lose the first goal, we lose the game.

Re: Nail your colours to the mast
There is zero logical basis for thinking we will stay up......add up the total number of goals each player in the squad can be expected to score between now and the end of the season based on all experience and it's just nowhere near enough. Nowhere near. Sadly I have to conclude we are going down. Keep the manager and rebuild as we did in 2013 though this won't be easy and will involve selling at least a couple of the few "crown jewels" we possess.

Two thoughts. Newcastle are going to try and buy themselves out of trouble. Not saying it will work, but if it does we have to catch teams “3-4 wins” above us to survive.
Secondly, I am usually supremely optimistic, but after suffering defeat today, our ageing squad with quite a number punching above their weight, and the dilemma of the owners considering whether to spend or keep the powder dry, I confess to being deeply worried

Sadly feel this is a season too far. The squad look tired, another yard slower and the manager devoid of ideas to arrest the slide. As for SD, will rightly go down as a BFC legend but all good things come to an end at somepoint and I think we're nearing that time. Very sad watching our fortunes crumble for months on end.

I saw a clip the other day about Paul Merson and his gambling/addiction habit. He has come through it several times but confessed if he had another setback that he would not have it in him to recover. It sadly drew a parallel with our team and the run of one win in 20 league games

Mr Motivator. Dyche's the man. Best we've ever had in the modern era....
Re: Nail your colours to the mast
In defence of SD, you can only play the game with the asset’s at your disposal, and currently he hasn’t many options that enable us to compete at this level.
I can’t see us surviving this season, but if we could refresh the squad with a talented youthful squad in the championship then SD is the man to bring us back.
It might be more than a season to create this new team. But remember there’s a huge gulf between these leagues.
