They've just handed us a financial lifeline, we were completely doomed with Wood upfront. Finance to freshen up the squad is exactly what we needed and they've just come with it. Hopefully we can scrape a few more quid out of them for Tarkowski. Wood's a carthorse, complete useless sack of shite unless he's poaching a goal.
Ha ha, a carthorse who has scored 50 PL goals. Thank goodness he could just poach them all. It's strange how other players, clearly better than Wood, haven't managed to score as many and cost way more than £15m.

£25m in is only good if you can find a replacement. Obviously, I truly hope we do but it ain't that easy even if you have the money.

I kind of copied the last guy but added the extra in to prove how silly your, alleged, team is which would pull us to safety.
I apologise for offering a potential positive outlook.

You're wrong, no idea why you're lying about me on my positive post.

You clearly didn't read my opening post either, I said with Wood gone and money reinvested, my confidence level in this team surviving goes up, I'm happy with this deal providing we recruit well. It gives us hope we didn't have before.

Offers absolutely nothing unless he's scoring the odd goal, can't run or hold the ball up, forces the side to whack it long. Good in both boxes from corners and decent from the penalty spot. Incredibly limited, doesn't occupy the defenders enough, lazily stands offside.

Striker becomes a priority, but I hope that we don’t ignore the longstanding central midfield issue.

This is the start of things to come. Onwards and upwards get shut of the dinosaurs 🦖 one gone a few more to go yet. Barnes, Cork, Tarks, Long, Beardsley, Lawton. A fresh start is needed for us all it’s gone stale.

1 out of form Chris Wood gets almost 2 Maxwel Cornet's ;)

Let's be honest, with Wood we were heading one way, down with a whimper and rebuild needed.

Now we have £25m, an ageing out of form striker out of the door and off the wage book. Money to rebuild now to try and save our bacon.

It's a huge lifeline imo, over to you Mr Pace

I really really like Collins, I think he looks a better prospect than Tarkowski and Keane did. I think he deserves to be playing, he's been our best central defender this season. He's the future.

Hopefully we can scrape a few more quid out of Newcastle for Tarkowski to further increase the rebuild refresh pot of cash.

In my humble opinion you can only play a masterstroke when you already know who’s going to replace the player you sold.
We’ll see in the next few days if that’s the case

Ha ha. How the hell can this team pull us to safety when we don't know 3 of the players?

Here's my team which will see us win the Champions League:

NEW
NEW, NEW, NEW, NEW
NEW, NEW, NEW, NEW
NEW, NEW

To allow a bit of flexibility, these players can also play in a 5-3-2 or any other formation you care to add.
We'd need to play 6-4-3 to win the Champions League!

£25m for Wood is a good fee for us but I don't understand the euphoria over the deal. Wood hasn't been great this season but the service to him has been abysmal. This is a striker who has scored 10 goals plus a season for us in the PL for all the time he has been with us. His goals have kept us there and helped us to that brilliant 7th place. He has scored goals wherever he has played and despite his poor season to date I wouldn't be at all surprised if he started scoring again for Newcastle as soon as he plays. The other thing to remember is its all well and good having £25m but who the hell will we buy at PL standard who will score enough goals for us. Suggestions please ? On another point suppose we don't attract anyone to come here do you suppose we will survive with Vydra who clearly will want out, Jayrod and Barnes who are now both too slow and not in good form either. Next season it would appear we may need 3 new strikers in addition to a Wood replacement. You can imagine Wood scoring the winner against us at the Turf to keep them up and us go down. Who will be so euphoric then.

Wood has done great for is in the past. Historically a ten goal a season striker which you’d pay 25m for.

The added bonus for their lazy recruitment (who pays 25m for a 30+ striker thats been abysmal this season) is that it leaves us short.

At this point though its the shot in the arm we needed.
Its fresh blood in a stagnant team and will be the be catalyst in lowering the squad age and rejuvenating the team.

Normally I’d be disappointed to see a player poached.
But this has the opportunity to expedite a turnaround in form and fortune.

More positive than negative here for me.

Just look at his stats as shown on Sky Sports. He comes out right at the top of the PL rankings in a number of key areas. There is much nonsense on here about a player we should be entirely grateful for having signed for us and he did a cracking job for us. People are so fickle.

I'm confused. You've spent the best part of 12 months moaning about how we need to move away from the rigid Dycheball 4-4-2 yet your fantasy team here is 4-4-2 ??

Long term I'd absolutely agree, we don't have the pieces quite right to implement such major change so sudden. It hasn't been 12 months either, I never mentioned it last season at all.

We're 1x Defour-type midfielder and 1 more Cornet-type forward away from being able to put out a very decent looking 4-3-3.

The three across the front being McNeill/Cornet/an other, because JBG and Lennon aren't good enough for that position, and I doubt Jay will recapture his Southampton form.

I started going in 83 so only got 1 season of Hamilton from memory, Kindon was before my time. Yep, that's the feeling though, not sure until I see it but I don't think I'll have it with Woody. Been good for us over the years but I'm far more interested in him funding part of a team rebuild if I'm being honest

I wonder how Mcneil would work in a midfield 3, with adequate defensive cover and technical ability next to him.

Okay I'm just going to think out loud. Nothing declarative, this is just a thought process. My gut is telling me keep him as a winger/wide forward.

McNeil's biggest strengths, assuming he's on form, naturally: his left foot crossing (nobody will dispute this), close ball control, defensive sensibilities (more positionally than tackling/bite). Understands the overlap very well. Good fluid rhythm when creating space for the overlap.

Weaknesses: not the quickest, although he does do that weird thing of somehow getting cross off when you think the fullback has him blocked. It's weird but he can be slower than the fullback yet beat him. It doesn't make sense but he does it. Anyway, I digress. I also don't think his eye for a pass is as cute as you'd want from a playmaker, even in spite of our efforts to find that role for him every now and again. He can shoot, though, so there's that.

Other observations: he can dribble well and turn out of trouble better than a lot of our squad, but I'd be wanting him to move the ball a lot faster if he were in a midfield 3, and I don't know if he has that in his locker because he telegraphs his passes a bit (though he's not alone in our squad for that). Even if we try to play so-called "better" football in a 4-3-3 we're still Burnley and we're going to need to outwork teams from time to time, so maybe a more aggressive midfielder than Dwight in the middle three? Think something along the lines of a higher-class Scott Arfield?

I hope to God this money is actually reinvested. The season depends on it.
Pace knows he is effectively on trial with the fans, can you imagine losing your main striker, not buying replacements and then asking people to buy a season ticket   They will re-invest for sure, I just hope the recruitment team can lead Dyche away from the usual players he has historically gone for

I wonder how Mcneil would work in a midfield 3, with adequate defensive cover and technical ability next to him.
He'll be going around the center circle using only his left foot!

The trouble with Wood is he's slower than a week in prison hence why he tries to steal a few yards and is caught offside all the time, for a player of his size he's easily bullied off the ball and can't hold a ball up, he misses all the easy chances but scores the one's you don't expect yes he's been fantastic for us in the past but this season shows we need to move on from this type of target player and inject some pace

If we are going to build a team around a Cornet style player we need player's with pace and quick thinking and who aren't afraid to shoot from all angles, with the rumoured 25 million we could add 3/4/5 million to that and bring in two similar player's to Cornet from abroad and have a team with flair and goals for once, like the subject title says it's no guarantee but "what a masterstroke" this could be, I've been banging the we are already relegated drum for a few weeks now but this could just save us and be the start of a exciting rebuild

Just look at his stats as shown on Sky Sports. He comes out right at the top of the PL rankings in a number of key areas. There is much nonsense on here about a player we should be entirely grateful for having signed for us and he did a cracking job for us. People are so fickle.
Agree, he’s done a fine job for us, that second half of the season flurry of goals last season kept us up. He was also key in the season we finished 7th playing mostly as the lone striker. But hard to argue he’s been absolutely miles off it all season, I’m sure CT has the ratings stats to share but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him in the bottom few.

But I think 25m for a 30 year old who’s potentially on the decline now is great business. With our club and model, we have to do these deals to keep moving forward. Just like we should have took the money for Tarks (35m reported at the time) when we could, now he’s off on a free. What has lacked over recent years is good enough recruitment to have replacements ready or at least lined up. Let’s hope ALK can use the 25m wisely and bring in a good few.

I really can't see us bringing in anything any bit like that will save us from the inevitable this season, relegation. Our hands are tied with Wood due to his release clause, the club should be sensible and look to spend the monies wisely.
Personally I would be looking at getting rid of Tarkowski and Mee and building a war chest for us to bounce straight back up from the Championship next season, the sale of those 2 plus our monies from Wood and parachute payments would see us in a strong positive.

We haven't enough money to buy ourselves out of trouble. Newcastle will survive due there spending power and we won't be able to afford to improve our depleted ageing squad to catch Everton, Leeds or Brentford.

We just need to be realistic and realise our days in the Premier league are numbered and now preper for next season in the championship

Not Rouen Hennings then. Possibly the slowest Burnley player I’ve ever seen.
Gifton Noel-Williams?

Well with Woods 25 million and the money supposedly already available BenWickes post might prove fruitful.

All I will say is, as I did last January. There'll be surprises. Good surprises.
I have been not only bang on accurate with telling you this I've been astonishingly accurate but can tell you now. There will be signings and some of those are going to top Cornet's signing. Don't be surprised to see our transfer record broken a couple of times.
I'll leave it at that.
My information has proven itself to be bob on when most of you laughed it off."

Bringing in 2 or 3 Cornet quality players could be the answer. A striker, RW and midfielder is the minimum we need to stand a chance of survival. I just hope we haven't blown too many games (especially Watford) by the time we eventually do sign them.
