What a masterstroke

Post by KRBFC » Tue Jan 11, 2022 8:47 pm

I was confident this group would see us down, I posted in the summer Wood has zero all around game, offers absolutely nothing to the team unless he's scoring goals. Incredible deal for an absolute plank of a footballer

£25m in, hopefully sell Tarkowski and Mee next for another £15m.

£40m cash pot to bring in 4 or 5 to really give us a fighting chance this season.

My confidence in us surviving has doubled (providing we reinvest every single £ + whatever the initial budget was)

Also, please no more Dyche heffer forwards. Hopefully Alan stops him from bringing in Andy Carroll, Emile Heskey and Lyndon Dykes.

Initial reports from Sky reporter that we have two main targets, both abroad, and that we are looking for pace. Said it makes a change from the typical norms we looked for in the past.

Absolutely, get some legs in that front line, a younger Jamie Vardy who's gonna work himself into the mud.

Not Rouen Hennings then. Possibly the slowest Burnley player I’ve ever seen.

Jed Wallace, CM and a striker. 3 players to slot instantly into the 11.

Roberts, Collins, Pope, Mcneil, Taylor, Cornet start every game, the core 6 we build a side around.

We'll stay up

Edit: Include Mee in that core 7 to build around, providing we sign him down immediately to a new deal.

Could prove a shrewd piece of business, but that depends who we sign, and how much of the Wood money is spent.

I'd consider selling Tarks this window if he'll go, but I'm not sure about letting both our experienced centre-backs leave, we have a ready made replacement for Tarks in Collins, but I'm not as confident in someone stepping into Ben's shoes at short notice.

Also if you sincerely think we can source 4-5 PL quality players with only £40m I fear you're going to be disappointed, unless we can use the loan market wisely.

Roberts Collins Mee Taylor
NEW NEW Brownhill Mcneil
Cornet NEW

Will see us to safety, the Wood (and hopefully Tarkowski) funds allows us flexibility to bring in real quality. 2 Cornets for the price of 1 Wood, incredible business.

'Incredible deal for an absolute plank of a footballer'

His record for a very unfashionable, finance limited side in the Premier league says otherwise. No idea what is going on at Turf Moor currently but as for a 'masterstroke' I think I will hold fire on that somewhat hyperbolic opinion until,at least, we discover what the other side of the deal involves. He's been poor this season but has more than justified the fee paid for him.

Yes, one of them will be Cornet who's abroad and has pace, so when he comes back it will be sold as like a new signing :D

I thought we were very poor on Saturday but particularly poor in the secind half after Wood went off. We need a target man in and quick sticks.

Our next game against Watford is arguably the biggest game of the season, in a match we really need to win and with cornet away, it's realistic that wood would be the man to score out of team if we were to score, now that threat has gone, we need someone in asap to hit the ground running.

Our next game is against Leicester, but I do take your point, and we do need to move sharpish given the amount of games coming thick and fast.

Only if we keep lumping the ball forward at every opportunity. We may change style and
practice passing the bloody thing to each other.

How would you feel of we were paying this fee for this player? I suspect like me you’d be distraught.

Masterstroke is a bit strong at this point I agree, but if we reinvest the money on faster, younger and hungrier players, then let’s see what happens. If we bring in another ‘Chris Wood’ I’d be disappointed.

Well I suppose it might be yet, but as it stands it's still on ATM.

Either way I totally agree that Watford game is massive to our season, win it and the whole picture could change, lose it and it'll be hard to see how we survive with Arsenal, Utd & Liverpool in the next 3.

Things have happened before that have ended up working in Dyche’s favour. Let’s hope this is another of those ‘lucky’ breaks he keeps having .

I’d like a couple of those NEW players to be a couple of the young Welsh players that Roberts could integrate into the team .

That’s if Roberts gets into the side himself !

Newcastle are in a position to accumulate players, store them and just dispose of them. It's not a 'make or break' deal for them. If he failed to find the net I suspect he would be sat alongside Hendrick on the bench . Either way the fee is of absolutely no significance or concern. Far,far different for a club of our stature however.

Ha ha. How the hell can this team pull us to safety when we don't know 3 of the players?

Here's my team which will see us win the Champions League:

NEW
NEW, NEW, NEW, NEW
NEW, NEW, NEW, NEW
NEW, NEW

To allow a bit of flexibility, these players can also play in a 5-3-2 or any other formation you care to add.
You just copied the last guy, I was assuming the 3 were gonna be slight upgrades on the 3 left out of course. I think that core I put together is good, few pieces missing of course but providing we fill the gaps effectively, I'm optimistic we can survive unlike with Wood here. The Wood finance allows us a little financial wiggle room to positively affect 2 positions in a previous dead doomed team.

Absolutely this. They may never even play Wood but it hasn't half put a spanner in the works of one their rivals. £25m to (potentially) screw us over is worth it for the, soon to be the most hated, club around.

They've just handed us a financial lifeline, we were completely doomed with Wood upfront. Finance to freshen up the squad is exactly what we needed and they've just come with it. Hopefully we can scrape a few more quid out of them for Tarkowski. Wood's a carthorse, complete useless sack of shite unless he's poaching a goal.

I'm with this. Seen so much woe and despair on social media over this. Why? Fans living on what he's done in the past..again.

Truth is there is something clearly not right. His body language and effort levels this season have been dreadful. Yes his service hasn't been brilliant but he's missed a lot of chances and his holding and pressing game has been way off for how he has been.
20m+ is great business for his age. We've made a profit on a 30+ player.
He wasn't going to fire the goals to keep us up with his head not in it and if we go down he wasn't hanging around anyway and we'd probably get less than half of this money for him then.

We MUST reinvest it though. We need to rebuild. This is a start.

You got me.

I kind of copied the last guy but added the extra in to prove how silly your, alleged, team is which would pull us to safety.

Absolutely, the way I see it, we weren't surviving with Wood and we all know the squad NEEDS a rebuild and refresh.

How did people expect this refresh to happen?

£25m can go along way to starting to rebuild back into a younger, hungry, good side. I'm delighted with this news, excited to see the mini rebuild.
