Re: Brighton v Palace
No billionaire is ever going to take us over,.....so let's give in,let's not try, let's not change.....game over.
Re: Brighton v Palace
But we don't have the same money to spend on players and wages.
As I said elsewhere, our achievements, like-for-like, are highly unlikely to be matched again in top flight football.

To push playing better football you need to spend money and they've spent plenty of that. They may have dealt well the last couple of years but before that they were spending like mad and it's the prior spending that's meant they can trade well. They also haven't been any more successful than we have until this season.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 7:53 amPotter has a net transfer spend of under £60m, not bad. My point was to turn the football from the negative rigid stuff of Hughton to the possession based progressive football they can play is quite impressive. They frequently have a high xG, creating chances but probably lack that clinical touch the next wage/transfer bracket brings. I hope one day we can get back to being able to retain the ball and play a better brand of football.
Plus, they can still decline the second part of this season.

Re: Brighton v Palace
Brighton have spent North on £250m over the past 4 yrs
All this talk about them being a well run club is disingenuous
Without the Deep Pocket owner giving vast amounts of his own money to the club they would be bankrupt

Agree but a net spend under Potter of £60m is one of the lowest in the league. And fair points regarding this season being the only one they’ve done better but that style of football does take a bit to understand and see fruition.superdimitri wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 4:37 pmTo push playing better football you need to spend money and they've spent plenty of that. If they didn't get promoted last time they did, they would have been in trouble. Same with Villa.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 5:48 pmBrighton have spent North on £250m over the past 4 yrs

The old FFP ruling meant these clubs could spend as much as they wanted on wages the season after they got promoted, that ruling immediately put a club like ours at a disadvantage if clubs with rich owners were our relegation rivals. Now FFP is just seen as a farce, and clubs seem to be able to spend whatever they like.
All they did in my view was sell White for the right amount, they were lucky enough Arsenal came in for him and spent that much. If Keane was interested in bigger clubs than Everton then we may have had the same fortune. Fact is, we kept buying players who were older and older and not making as much money on them. Tarkowski being a good example.
We sold Keane at 24, and bought his replacement at the same age.
Even if we had Tarkowski under contract we wouldn't get much for him now because he's 29.
