Burnley v Wolves 75

Jimmy Greaves...😂
"Paraphrasing..."Those were horrible conditions. They remind me of the old days, when you emerged out of the mist from the Pennines, and you weren't in Brigadoon you were in Burnley and already a goal down before you got off the coach ". 😂

I remember that game only too well.
Cold, dark leaden skies, chucked it down, Kindon outstanding, lost 5 - 1, absolutely convinced after the match we'd be relegated.

I remember it well. It was a vital relegation battle and typical of Burnley at that time “we didn’t show” when MOTD cameras were there. Wolves scored in the first 20 seconds through John Richards. Apart from it being such an early goal it was an unusual moment in that the ball ended up in the arms of a bemused ball boy at the Beehole End. Richards’ shot definitely went in but went straight through the net and onto the cinder track. The match is on You Tube but I think the cameras follow the goal scorer so the above incident is not clearly shown. “ Ministry of Useless information “ department at your service.

Remember the conditions and state of the pitch with Kindon ploughing though it at 50 miles an hour.

I was at the match, got on TM very early possibly. My immediate memory is being surrounded by hundreds of Wolves fans who somehow managed to get in our end. It was a very, very good Wolves side and we were destroyed by the Warrington duo. Richards was a for me one of the games great, unassuming goal scorers who should have played many times for England.

You can definitely see the ball going through the nets. Made me shudder to watch that. I’ve said on another thread that I feel this season like I did in 75/76. Let’s hope we don’t slide down that path again

It was bad enough watching in the CFS at the time. I’d be traumatised watching it again.

Skippy, Steve Daley and Geoff Palmer are three faces well known to Clarets, was anyone else in that Wolves squad? Gallagher played later for Wolves but I’m pretty sure he was a kid at Birmingham City at the time. So any others?

I was on the Longside for this game. Although some Wolves fans were in our side early doors I remember their away following was quite poor. They had only brought what looked like less than 500 fans. Mind you they ended up with plenty to celebrate.

First time I ever watched us on MoTD. Probably unfair to single him out, but not Stevenson's finest hour...

I remember this one too, although from memory I would have said we were 4 or even 5 down at half-time. Wolves had some good players but they were relegated along with us at the end of the season.

They did a real number on us that day.
The reverse fixture at their place was a scarey event too. Nothing to do with the result.

Jimmy was renowned for comments like the one above and was never short of a word or two. However, I'll always remember him as one of the greatest goalscorers of all time. His record was phenomenal and plenty of his goals came against Burnley for both Chelsea and Tottenham. He loved playing on the Turf and one particular game I recall was against Chelsea here in the 1960/61 season.

We were due to play Hamburg in a European Cup second leg game in Germany during the following midweek and the previous Saturday against Chelsea Harry Potts selected pretty much a Reserve side. Greaves made us pay for that with an oustanding display with two goals including a last minute equaliser in an amazing 4-4 draw.

Daley’s first reminds me of a goal he got for us in his hat-trick at Port Vale
