England v Switzerland. Friendly.

Just what we needed. An international break at the end of March. Another pointless match, because there won’t be many games to cram in by then!

I foresee lots more “injuries & covid cases” towards the end of March.

Bonkers at the best of times, but in the scenario PL teams including ourselves face regarding fixture congestion this is ludicrous.

I thought the whole idea of the NL comp was to ensure that pointless friendlies bit the dust, and yet bang in the busiest period of the season lo and behold another daft international break just so the FA can make more money.

You do wonder exactly how much common sense the people that organise such events genuinely do possess at times like this.

Aren't the playoffs for the World Cup being played during that break?

Yes they're essential games, but for the rest of the countries who aren't involved it would have been an ideal time for some players to have a breather wouldn't it, we constantly hear the complaints about the amount of games in the calendar, yet when games could be curtailed, i.e. make all cup ties one-off games, including in the European comps, and not scheduling meaningless friendlies then nobody seems to listen.

There's plenty of solutions available if the clubs and the powers that be really want to lessen the number of matches over the course of a season, but as ever once it involves the prospect of losing money they quickly backtrack on their rhetoric.

If common sense was measured in money values. Those at the FA would be bankrupt.
