Next four (tough matches)
Next four (tough matches)
Arsenal (a)
Man U (h)
Liverpool (h)
Brighton (a)
If we come through this lot within 3-4 points (and a couple of games in hand of 17th) we'll have a good chance of stopping up.
At least Cornet should be available after the Arsenal game, plus any new signings.
A few other six pointers at the bottom starting on Friday with Watford v Norwich.

Jeez on paper that looks a really tough run. Desperately need 3-4 new signings in the door by the end of Jan.

Snap your hand off for anything more than 2 points

Re: Next four (tough matches)
Slim chance Arsenal might be called off as well. Although I imagine they’ll want to play us atm.
I’m just hoping we play 5 across the middle and go defensive, try and grind some points out, work our arses off & rebuild the fitness levels.

Re: Next four (tough matches)
Got to see them as potentially winnable. More draws aren’t going to do. 6 points needed to give us some momentum, 3 absolute minimum. Anything less and we’re in trouble. Every match is a cup match now, win or lose.

Notts Claret I have hot to take my hat off to you you are either the most positive person on this post or the christmas spirt is strong within you , either way cheers
Re: Next four (tough matches)
Looking at that lot and considering how we’ve played to date I doubt we can get more than 2 points.

Re: Next four (tough matches)
I think Liverpool will beat us but we should be able to get draws
against Arsenal and Brighton and obviously the Man U game should be an easy 3 pts for us

Re: Next four (tough matches)
Obviously changes if they reschedule one of the postponed games during that time. Watford seems the easiest one to get out of the way.

Re: Next four (tough matches)
I feel positive about the postponements as long as we make a couple of signings.
These next matches are good, they get the really tough ones out of the way bar two or three. Then we can crack on.
What amazes me is how we remain in reach despite not picking up wins. Other teams are running out of games (e.g. NUFC only have 7 more home games, and Eddie isn’t renowned for away form). For all that’s said about our home form, we haven’t lost many and don’t ship many goals at home.

Re: Next four (tough matches)
Tough set of fixtures, but the lack of expectation might play to our benefit.
We drew at Chelsea when most expected us to get thumped, and for some reason we seem to have saved our best performances for when we're facing the top sides this season.
Realistically anything above 3 pts will be decent out of those.

I didn't realise Newcastle only had 7 home games left, that rather changes the dynamic.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 3:25 pmI feel positive about the postponements as long as we make a couple of signings.

We've only lost to Brighton and Arsenal at home, and both those reverses were narrow, it's the 4 draws which have held us back, and even winning 2 of those games would have put a completely different slant on the table.
Agree on the signings, these call-off's have bought us some time in the wake of Wood's departure, and we need to take full advantage of that fact.
Re: Next four (tough matches)
I make it 8 home games left for all our fellow three strugglers whilst we have 12. That has to be a big advantage. Can we make a couple of solid additions to really give us a fighting chance? Vital two weeks coming up.

Shhhhh its not the done thing on here to be optimistic ... you are supposed to be all doom and gloom ...

Re: Next four (tough matches)
All games in the PL are tough for us
Re: Next four (tough matches)
Win anything over half your home games in a season and you'll stay up.
Sadly we've let a few of the more winnable ones pass us by, so going to be tough from here.
7 more wins from here should put us there or there abouts once you throw in a couple of draws.
However like I do when looking at other sides when they're in a mess, if they've only won 1 in the first 17 games, they're not going to suddenly flick a switch and go on to win 6 or 7 in the next 17.
Thought it after the Newcastle away game and nothings changed my mind since, if anything it's become clearer, but this is the year we say goodbye to the Premier league.

Re: Next four (tough matches)
3 is the max allowed based on current squad numbers unless they are U23
And we know Dyche does not usually want to work with players that young
Over to you Alan

Re: Next four (tough matches)
I’d hardly class Brighton anywhere near Liv/Utd/Ars but 2 of the 3 biggies are at home and Ars a total free hit . 2 pts would be a great haul with the bha game being something to really look for points

Re: Next four (tough matches)
Thanks for correcting me. I knew we had 4 home games in hand on NUFC and NCFC but assumed it was 7 and 11 not 8 and 12.
Whatever, that has to be worth a few points all other things being equal. We average 1 point per game at home even in this poor season, all bottom sides only average about 0.5 points per game away.
Re: Next four (tough matches)
Need 3 points as an absolute minimum from these four games. This is dependent on several new signings coming through the door before month end and also the existing squad stepping up on their current levels of performance.
