Just what we need, playing them with the new manager bounce
It's a good job there's no such thing as new manager bounce.

To be fair to Hodgson, he’d get one last pay off after getting sacked! Crazy club!

Just seen it could be Woy.
Bad news, if true.

I was hoping for a foreign manager with no PL experience, but Hodgson would get them organised.

Hodgson is an organiser but he’s taking on a big job with precious little time to bring in any players.

Probably one of the worst appointments for the rest of the potential relegation sides

Ex Premier League manager who knows what it takes to survive at this level

The owners are finally showing some sense in this decision if true

Sounds like it’s a goer with Hodgson. Sky sports and Telegraph both reporting he’s close to being appointed.

Not a bad appointment but still not convinced they are good enough to stay up.

Can't believe Hodgson wants the aggro at his age tbh. I think they're doomed whoever they appoint.

So going by thoughts on here

Newcastle will spend their way out of trouble

Watford are safe now they have Hodgson

Everton, Leeds & Brnetford are too good to get dragged into it

Any teams above these are safe. This could be a special season when only 2 go down unless of course Norwich can pick up a few more wins then it will be just us

It makes no difference, we've beaten better Hodgson sides than this. We batter them from beginning to end roughing them up a tad if we have to.

Seems strange to me that Watford keep going for decent managers - good men with integrity like Ranieri and Hodgson. And even more that they keep saying yes.

Suprised Woy has gone for this ,though it’s likely the steady hands they need . They appear rancid and disinterested though and must be absolute Naps to go down with Newc and another

Have to agree with others in saying it’s a great appointment for them. He worked with the owners at Udinese so he’s knows what he’s going into.

Respect to Roy Hodgson, he must love football.

I know it’ll be a lot of money for about 4 months work, but does he really need it?

I suspect he loves the money far more than football. There's no two ways about it. It's purely for the money and nothing else.

I’m not too worried by this announcement. He might bring some of his tactical nous with him to Watford and have his star centre forward taking all of the corners?

He is a decent club manager to be fair. Let’s hope it takes him a few weeks though to assess his squad and decide what his best team is.

Big difference to BFS last season, West Brom were miles adrift when he took the reins, and I'd wager Watford have a far better squad for Roy to work with, and just like all the others down there it'll only take a good result or two to start pulling clear.

Could have been a lot worse for us. They have gone for the cheaper end of the market with Woy. And, he's even older than CT ! :o

Bit of a masterstroke by Watford possibly. Roy wont feel the pressure, why should he. Keep them up take his fat cheque - everybody except us Norwich and Newcastle happy.

I initially thought the same, but he took over the day after the Man City game and the table was very tight at the bottom, like it is now:

Apparently Roy takes a bit of time to get going as well, so there is hope yet! :)

Happy with this. A lot of the "new manager bounce" comes from the new guy being an unknown quantity and their setup being unpredictable meaning opposition managers/teams struggle to prepare for matches against them. There's not much more of a known quantity than Roy Hodgson.

They do, accept Newcastle & Watford have strengthened in this window, whereas we haven't yet, and neither have Norwich, but Dean Smith seems to managing fine with what he's got for now.

Not convinced Woy will save Watford. Players in for them already in this window not his choices so unlikely to have time or money to bring in others. Watford poor defensively this season. He hasn't had anytime to assess the players he has and how they play. Main threat Dennis missing against us, other main threats injured at present. If we can beat them at the Turf on Feb 5th we will finish above them. He will try and grind out results but by doing so will cut out his threats up front.

Roy Hodgson in at Watford

Post by claret59 » Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:28 pm

I can't find a post on this but it seems to be common knowledge that our Roy is to be the next Watford manager. If true, how is it likely to be a factor against us in our crucial game against them?
