Shoe Laces

Like most I was taught to tie my shoelaces by my parents - yes I had parents. It was a bit of a rights of passage thing when you finally got the hang of it. What I was taught stayed with me practically unquestioned. I came across one or two different ways of lacing shoes, such as with my football boots, and different types of shoe laces - flat and round for example - but I never thought about their purposes or questioned the basic method of tying my shoe laces.

Today I finally decided to investigate the whole matter of shoe laces because I felt like it!

This site tells you about the different shoe laces:

https://www.wearduke.com/flat-shoelaces ... shoelaces/

And this one tells you the rest:

https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/index.htm

... the different ways of lacing shoes:

https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/lacing.htm

... and other methods of tying them:

https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/tying.htm

I carry out this operation at least once a day so it's about time I looked in to the matter.

Isn't the Internet brilliant!

Next, taking off a T shirt.

In only wear Adidas Sambas, have done since about 2005.

One thing I have noticed is that that in the last few pairs I’ve bought, is that the laces don’t stay tied. Somethings changed.

But a shoe lace is a shoe, so it must be me… but I know how to tie shoelaces. Even if I double-knot them, at some point, I see that they have come undone again. What’s different?

Maybe there’s more synthetic fibre and less cotton in them. Cotton laces tend to stay tied. Walsh fell running shoes never come untied because of the fibre in the laces.
I can remember learning to tie laces at infant school on a sort of stool with several pairs stretched across the top.
I can also remember having hands so cold you couldn’t untie them after football on Saturday and Sunday mornings. No gloves or thermals allowed then, in fact you wouldn’t have even thought of wearing them.

Knot perhaps the type of thread I was expecting to read just a few days away from the transfer deadline.Let's hope the club are able to take on board the advice offered above and tie up a couple of much needed deals.

As a runner I used to pull all the straggly ends under the across laces. They definitely don’t come undone. I also used to put the lace through the front door key before I tied them. Safest place to carry it.

A great shoelace maker in Leicester, I have bought boot laces from here and they are top laces as a decent price and made in the UK.

We’ve all had a pair of shoes and a couple of years later the laces break. Finding the correct replacements usually involves going to 2 or 3 shops, and sometime impossible to source.

One of my favourite websites is shoelaces.co.uk because it’s so simple to use and so cheap. The laces usually arrive next door and in a small envelope so they fit through the letterbox even if you are out.

Maybe I should have posted this on the getting old thread.

I think you need to post this on the Lancashire Blackburnegraph pages ... as there's a few on there that need a few tips on learning to tie shoelaces as they are missing the "having a parent" bit and its missing from their education.

There's a name for that hard bit on the ends. It came up on University Challenge.

Leather shoelaces are just not up to it...they undo themselves.
Strawberry laces are much tastier than the rest, normal ones are too tough & chewy.

Was it called "the hard bit at the ends"?

Maybe that finely tuned sense of alacrity that you have exhibited since 2005 is waning? Nerves tighten, feelings change. It’s somewhat normal.

Also, kudos on the samba wearing. 🙏

I always double knot my laces nowadays although I have noticed I am in a minority that actually bother to do them up :D
