Lukas Jutkiewicz stats

Post by beeholeclaret » Tue Jan 25, 2022 9:41 pm

Don't worry this is not a topic for the transfer rumours thread.

Just saw his name this evening whilst idly viewing tonight's Championship games and looked up his stats.

Since leaving Burnley in 2017 he has forged out a reasonable career at Birmingham City where he has scored 56 goals in 232 appearances. He has played 450 games in his career and scored 109 goals. Not prolific but still useful up front at Championship level. The blot on his stats is the 0 goals in 32 games for Burnley. He is still only 32 years of age.

Roughly a 1 in 4 striker.. not really good.

He was shocking for us. Couldn’t score in a brothel.

I felt for him at Burnley, particularly the start of the 2015/16 season when we had just been relegated. Denied two obvious penalties in the first two games (Leeds and Birmingham) then suffered his injury at Bristol. I’m not saying he’s have taken the penalties but just felt he needed the first league goal and he’d have been a useful player for us.

Yes Shaggy thats what I thought but I was surprised to see that he has played over 450 games so he has obviously proved his worth to a succession of different managers - apart from being with us from 2014 to 2017? Probably with good reason I dont remember much about his time at Burnley. Did he suffer a serious injury at some stage?

Most shocking thing about the Jutkiewicz signing was he wasn't even the worst striker we signed that summer (admittedly Im using the term striker very loosely)

He didn't score for us but actually led the line well - if that makes any sense!

I was disappointed when he left. As, has been said previously on this thread, he was tense and looking to set his career alight… a goal in those first few games.. then, I think he’d have made a good option of the Conroy, Hamilton mould, when chasing games and possibly even as a starter.

His hold up play and touch wasn’t that bad as I recall. We always played balls up behind him though, which is how we often play in the Premier League, and he’s not the kind of player who can hold, turn, take a player on. So the service wasn’t to his threats. He was never going to be prolific for us, but as above I felt he just needed a goal to get him up and running.

Didn’t he score something like 8 in pre-season for us?

His hold up play was better than most strikers I've seen for us over the last few years. It was a shame it didn't work out for him here.

Sure he scored against Everton and it was disallowed, he looked gutted and I think that would have given him bags of confidence.

If we ever signed him again he would make Jay & Barnes look quick

He was Birmingham players player of the year a couple of years ago. We were a very tight team during the period he played for us and 2 of the seasons were in the Premiership.

Proved himself to be a very competent Championship forward but not in the same class as Chris Wood; not even close.

Similar to Vydra in the sense that you would think that he would score in the championship but just not quite good enough for the Prem'.

I'm glad he's done well - good luck to him

Lee Bowyer set his team up to play to his strengths at the end of last season. 6 goals from the last 9 games. He's a competent Championship target man. I think he just had a psychological block on scoring in a Premier League game, scored for fun in pre-season then nothing, I'm sure there are far worse players who've scored in the Premier League. He's currently playing at a higher level than Sam Vokes who's 6 months his junior.

Had a brilliant pre season for us, and always looked the part on the pitch. Really strange that he hit a wall in front of goal. A little bit of luck and he could have been an excellent signing.

 Imagine him and Vydra, we’d have great forwards that can’t score

Also seems like a sound bloke too - certainly enjoyed the team spirit around the return of Jason Shackell.

I thought he was a bit unlucky and that first game of the season at Leeds kinda summed him up - runs himself into the ground for 70 minutes, should have had a penalty, Vokes then replaces him and scores.

Disappointed? I’d be surprised if you aren’t on your own with that one

Couldn't agree more. He started the 2014/15 season well but just couldn't find that goal. Then, 2015/16 and the two pens (was it Kevin Friend?) at Leeds. I remember him playing on having suffered the ACL at Bristol City because we'd made our three subs, albeit for not too long. I still think things would have been different had that header gone in at Swansea in August 2014.

I liked the Juke but let's be honest, he wasn't Premier League quality and he likely would not have been signed if Vokes hadn't been out injured.

I’m sure that was the reason and I think, at the time, Dyche was also hopeful of signing Deeney.

I think the Vokes comparison is interesting because I thought he held his own in the Premiership for a period but he has such an immense physique you wondered to what extent the extra weight (not necessarily fat) you put on as you get older impacts upon players with a heavy frame.

Alex Ferguson once said of Cantona that he felt that his early departure from the game was because he was a heavy set man for an athlete and was taken aback when he first saw him after his retirement how much heavier he had become.

Just pondering as to the problems Chris Wood has had recently albeit 2 + 2 often equals 5 in my head.

I recall Juke scoring quite a few in the pre season games and thought we had signed a useful striker but he was then beset with bad luck from the start of the season.
