Best drama the BBC have shown in years in my opinion.
Available on iplayer for those who haven't seen it.

Re: The Responder - BBC 1
I didn't rate the first episode at all, good drama for me has you really caring about the characters and this one didn't.
However, I've seen the next two episodes and I am now on board.

Re: The Responder - BBC 1
Watched the first three, think it’s been great. Will watch the last 2 after work this evening.
Re: The Responder - BBC 1
Not for me. Watched the first episode and didn’t like it at all - to the extent I decided not to give it a second chance so didn't bother watching last night. Each to their own.

The kind of thing I would normally watch but having seen the trailer I cringe at Martin Freeman doing a scouse accent . Maybe I should try and get past this somehow.

Another who watched 1 episode and gave up on it.

Can’t stand Martin Freeman as an actor (he’s just Tim from the office in everything).
Willing to give it a go though seeing as Trigger Point was so awful.

Was amazed at how authentic Martin Freeman was actually ,kept double taking to see it was actual him .Seems an age since the BBC attempted a gritty hard hitting drama not weighted down with overbearing political correctness. Seems more character rather than police driven too . Has a Jimmy McGovern type feel to it and you’re almost wondering where Stephen Graham is ! . Excellent
Re: The Responder - BBC 1
Not seen anything like this before, totally fresh approach. Freeman is excellent.claret2018 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 8:22 amCan’t stand Martin Freeman as an actor (he’s just Tim from the office in everything).

As for Trigger point, one of the most cliched offerings I have ever seen.
Maverick police officers, disregarding instructions to do their own thing. Yawn
Last minute explosion in van just when they thought everything was cleared. Yawn
Re: The Responder - BBC 1
If you've never been to Liverpool or interacted with actual scousers. It's a generic 'Liverpool' sound, god knows where in the city he's supposed to be from.
Managed to get past that though, he's decent, it's decent. I particularly like the young lad who in my experience is a far more authentic, 'he's a proper bad kn0bhead, him ,la'. had me smiling as it's phrase I hear daily.

The bomb disposable programme was terrible,if that's the way they go about a bomb scare God help us,The Responder was even worse,do the Police really behave like that?claret2018 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 8:22 amCan’t stand Martin Freeman as an actor (he’s just Tim from the office in everything).

Watched the first episode of both, two hours of my life I'll never get back, only consolation is I won't be watching anymore of these two far fetched turds of programmes

I've lived and worked in Liverpool for the best part of 20 years and my in-laws are all scousers so I think I'm qualified to comment.Caballo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 9:15 amIf you've never been to Liverpool or interacted with actual scousers. That’s the point, they have never been portrayed in that way, as fallible human beings on the cusp of emotional collapse. The scriptwriter was just such a policeman apparently and this series is semi-autobiographical. Brilliant TV.Steve1956 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 9:16 amThe bomb disposable programme was terrible,if that's the way they go about a bomb scare God help us,The Responder was even worse,do the Police really behave like that?

After reading comments I will give them both a miss and stick with "Father Brown" for some good old fashioned detective work.

Re: The Responder - BBC 1
Very true. Many people don't realise how the accent varies across the city. Someone from Speke will have a very different accent than someone from Toxteth, Bootle, or Kirkby.Caballo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 9:15 amIf you've never been to Liverpool or interacted with actual scousers. Freeman must have a good agent, that's all I'll say. Made little talent go a very, very long way.

Don’t get too upset Eddie .It’s just my view that the US and Europeans seem able to make great drama with racially diverse casts without beating you over the head( or the bottom if you prefer ) with the Guardian .evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 8:59 am"Seems an age since the BBC attempted a gritty hard hitting drama not weighted down with overbearing political correctness."

I really enjoyed it and was impressed with a side of his acting that I haven’t seen before.
Definitely worth a watch

We were a little unsure after the first episode and we’re not going to bother with anymore, then we decided we’d give the second episode a chance and actually enjoyed it, we’ll definitely watch it until it’s completion.
I think Martin Freeman plays a really good part and whilst I’m no expert on whether the accent is good or not it sounds good to me.

I've seen 3 and am enjoying it as a drama, it isn't a documentary.
I find Martin Freeman very versatile as an actor so he must be, well, a decent actor.

I actually agree with Alargeclaret BBC iPlayer has a lot gritty European dramas, which are much better than the BBCs own output, which are quite often terribly middle class costume dramas or posh families in turmoil with a sixth formesque dialogue and level of sophistication.
The Martin Freeman drama felt very gritty, authentically working class and it was quite a surprise for the BBC.
Still didn't enjoy it. I'm too Ribble Valley aspirational to be wanting to watch scousers with thick accents chasing around after other scoursers with thick accents calling each other kn*b heads and generally being wantonly proletarian for no reason.

So the gritty output you prefer is out there and is available via the BBC directly or via iPlayer ................thought so.ClaretPete001 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:27 amI actually agree with Alargeclaret BBC iPlayer has a lot gritty European dramas, which are much better than the BBCs own output, which are quite often terribly middle class costume dramas or posh families in turmoil with a sixth formesque dialogue and level of sophistication.

I've watched the fourth episode and am enjoying it, even to the point of appreciating Freeman's character suffering and actually beginning to care about the two scrote addicts, the girl and the lad.
As for Jakub, it's the usual question....what the **** are you burbling about ?

Given that at least two of us have expressed a preference for it I think you can safely assume it is out there and available to be viewed - it is probably not your most profound thought ever.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:49 amSo the gritty output you prefer is out there and is available via the BBC directly or via iPlayer ................thought so.
