The forgotten man

Post by claretandbluesky » Thu Jan 27, 2022 9:09 am

Nathan Collins.
Really think he needs to be playing now if we want to keep hold of him. He is undoubtedly a top player who we will find hard to keep hold of if we get relegated. Deserves to be involved now and the worry is another Gibson scenario developing. In my opinion Tarkowski needs to step aside to accommodate him.
Yes it can be argued that if we stay up all will be well, Tarkowski ‘s natural replacement, but if we go down can’t see him wanting to be back to square one when he knows he could play at a higher level.

I’d imagine that Nathan Collins was aware that he would be 3rd choice this season when he signed, injuries and suspension aside. Next season should be his time.

Personally I would give him a chance upfront, he’s just short of 6 foot 6 so would be perfect to lump the ball up to and win headers.

Hopefully that’s what’s going on behind the scenes they are turning him in to a striker.

The forgotten man??? I think you forget quite a bit and very easily if you think he’s the forgotten man. He’s played whenever required, you forget; he knew he was back-up when we signed him, you forget; and you’ve also forgotten (if indeed you were ever aware) that Tarky was superb at The Emirates on Sunday and looked well up for the fight all afternoon.

Certainly not the forgotten man. He looks a top player and if he’s not first choice next season then something has gone dramatically wrong.

Why on earth would anyone want Tarky to step aside after his performance at Arsenal? And what Gibson scenario? He's 20 and learning, let's leave him to do that.

Personally, I like to leave team selection to Sean Dyche. Nathan will know that he will become our number 1 centre back in the next 12 - 18 months

Agree with you Tony, I'm sure he would have known this when he joined us.Let him develop and give him his chance when the time is right.Tarky is a class act and we need him.

I think Collins situation is far different from Gibson and he knew the script when he signed. Collins has known all along he'll be first choice next season whatever division we are in because Tarky is off, whereas Gibson was looking at 2 well established CBs ahead of him with long contacts and who rarely got injured or suspended. He couldn't see a path to break through. The only cloud on the horizon for Collins is that he would have been pretty certain that he would be playing in the PL and that now looks anything but certain, so he might give it say a season to see if we bounce back and if we don't he may get very itchy feet.

I would have thought after the Gibson episode SD will be ensuring Collins is spoken too and encouraged on a regular basis and he’ll be left in no doubt about how much he’s wanted and that his time will come. I imagine the Gibson episode was more down to him being difficult, I think with Collins it’ll be the exact opposite.

This is one of the silliest thread titles ever. There is nothing whatsoever "forgotten" about Nathan Collins.

He's a talented young centre back who was purchased knowing we had a settled, experienced pair in our first team and he has performed admirably when called upon.

Gibson possibly thought he was better than he is and was highly frustrated at finding himself behind Tarky and Mee (who he may been led to believe was leaving).

He may have represented England at several levels but so had Nathan Delfuoneso!

THIS.

People moan we don't succession plan, and yet when we do they can't comprehend that will mean players being on the fringe for a season.

What's pleasing is whenever Nathan Collins has been needed he's stepped in no bother.
