Trump knew he had to bite the bullet sometimes, he built a close relationship with Putin, a relationship that would've potentially benefitted the world right now.PeterWilton wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 2:03 pmHe also sided with Russia over his own intelligence services on his calamitous trip to Helsinki. The part you highlighted is entirely accurate. He is pro-putin. And he is singing his praises. No one's said he agrees with it, just that he wouldn't do a thing to try and stop it. With respect, it is in fact you who are spinning other people's words.KRBFC wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 2:04 pmWell you took words and spun it into pro Russian, what Trump actually said was Putin's strategy was genius, he never said he agreed with it and infact said it wouldn't have happened under his watch.
Wether you like or love Trump, lets at least not spin words, it helps nothing.

Faced with a choice of believing every one of his own country's intelligence services that Putin interfered in the election, or believing Putin when he said "no we didn't", him taking the side of the enemy there is him merely "biting the bullet"?
You have to be trolling. Right? Right?
And how would the relationship benefit the world? Trump wanted to dismantle NATO. We wanted to refuse to commit US forces if a NATO country was attacked. You think this wouldn't happen? You're smoking way too much crack.

It's not childish squabbling. It's trying to engage certain types of people in a discussion based on their opinions, and them refusing to even try. It looks like squabbling because adults are trying to help children understand how they're clearly wrong and not getting through. The Enclosure wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 2:15 pmSee that another interesting thread has descended into childish squabbling.

I don't really understand Putin's strategy here. Doesn't particularly want NATO on his doorstep so invades the only real buffer zone (who were never going to join NATO). This is not going to end well for any of us
Re: Russia Invades
Trump.got cheesed off about NATO because some countries, notably German, paid relatively minor amounts into it compared to USA who contributed @ 4% of GDP.

Benefit the world?
Trumps only ever done anything to benefit himself. Period.
The thing he likes so much about Putin, is that he stays in power and, doesn't get elected out.
Something Trump tried, but thankfully failed, to rectify.
Though he's still working on it even now.

I personally believe that the meeting with Kim and taking a step into North Korea was a great sign of strength and holding diplomacy talks was a great step forward.
Also, the peace treaty in the Middle East was the first step towards improving stability in that region - especially compared with the foreign policy of all his predecessors.
Taking out Soleimani as well with a precision strike with no civilian casualties.
Not to mention no wars, not ya know, carpet bombing Libya/arming ISIS/Al Qaeda/ Mujahaddin etc etc etc
To me, these are irrefutable.

Ah. It's probably not a problem.
Re: Russia Invades
You are making a lot of assumptions there, especially when so many respected political analysts well above your station, state that Trump was trying to leverage for more financial input from other countries to contribute to NATO with the statements that he made!...And how would the relationship benefit the world? Trump wanted to dismantle NATO. We wanted to refuse to commit US forces if a NATO country was attacked. Do you think this wouldn't happen? You're smoking way too much crack.
You are falling for the typical Guardian headlines about Trump and the saying 'Do As They Say, Not As They Do' comes to mind in the blind perusal of Trump's statements. You are taking them too literally because he showed so many times, that it was a tactic to get his own way, which worked a lot, especially with trade with China...
He did this all the time and you have to look at his actions, not his words because he is always trying to leverage with his words.
Let's look at the facts... Under Obama, Putin invaded Crimea, along with the other endless conflicts around the world!... Under Biden, Putin is invading Ukraine!... Under Trump, we saw diddly squat from Putin and Trump also diffused the North Korea and Iran situations. There has never been a more peaceful time in recent times than under Trump!... Then there is Afghanistan... Look at how that fell apart as soon as Trump left and Biden took over!...
... Look, you can be as ideological as you like, or twist statements to fit a narrative but the fact is that the world was a much safer place under Trump! That's an indisputable fact whether you like it or not! It is also a fact that the predictions that many political analysts stated when Biden was elected, with his strings being pulled by Mrs Clinton and Mr Obama, that we would go back to endless conflicts is also proving to be true!

Terrible that it has come to this , suspect only Russians suffering high casualties will have any effect , even in Russia their are many who don’t swallow the Putin lies despite being cowed, countries that share so much , families and so many other ties the truth will out , let’s see what Boris the appeaser comes up with tonight , after years of turning a blind eye to Russians buying up our capital,I suspect the Ukranian people will be disappointed , hopefully we can send a signal against Chelski a week on Saturday to their many supporters in Russia that some of us won’t turn a blind eye !
