I'm struggling to get my head around this

*This* is how a 21st century military transports its ammunition?

I’m not convinced the Bradley’s 25mm cannon can do a T72. That’s why they gave them TOWs.

The 25mm is designed for BMP / BTR / BRDM etc

I'm going off an Iraqi war veteran account in which he says they could

I assume some areas of the armor it won't scratch, but the ammo storage on those things is a huge weak point isn't it?

Why Russia keeps insisting Poland is invading Ukraine.

https://carnegieendowment.org/politika/88585

Also captured mobilised Russians are surprised that they are fighting Ukrainians and not Polish army as they have been led to believe.

Possibly into the engine block, but that’s just M-killing it. Other than at extreme close range, I just don’t see 25mm bushmaster cutting through 95% of a T72 armour. And you rarely get that close.

From the US post DESERT STORM report:

“also stated that, according to crews, the 25-mm automatic gun had killed tanks. However, AMSAA officials stated that, on the basis of their ongoing assessment of combat vehicles in the Persian Gulf war, for the 25-mm automatic gun to kill a tank, the tank would have to be hit at close range in its more vulnerable areas.”

Latest news from the Telegraph -

Russia said it killed 600 Ukrainian troops on Sunday in revenge for a Ukrainian assault on New Year's Eve that reportedly killed hundreds of Russians. The Russian defence ministry said it struck a building in Kramatorsk, in Eastern Ukraine, with a massed rocket attack. It said the building was being used as a temporary barracks to house Ukrainian soldiers. If confirmed, it is likely to be the most-deadly single attack on troops in the war so far.

Update from the Telegraph. Looks like Russia may have been telling porkies.

Russia said it killed 600 Ukrainian troops on Sunday in revenge for a Ukrainian assault on New Year's Eve that reportedly killed hundreds of Russians. However, Reuters reporters who visited the site of the claimed attack said there were no obvious signs of casualties. The Russian defence ministry said it struck a building in Kramatorsk, in Eastern Ukraine, with a massed rocket attack. It said the building was being used as a temporary barracks and that it targeted two dormitories that were housing around 1,300 Ukrainian soldiers. “Responding to a criminal strike executed by the Kyiv regime in the first moments of the new year against a temporary accommodation facility in Makiivka, a vengeance operation has been completed,” the Russian defence ministry said in a statement. It referred to an attack that took place on New Year's Eve, in which Ukraine said it killed about 400 Russians after targeting a barracks with Himars. If confirmed, the Russian attack would be one of the deadliest in the war so far.

However, Reuters reporters visited the two college dormitories that Russia said had been targeted. Neither appeared to have been directly hit by missiles or seriously damaged. In addition, there were no obvious signs that soldiers had been living there and no sign of bodies or traces of blood, they said. There are other reasons to doubt the claim. Ukraine took advantage of Russia's error in gathering hundreds of troops in one spot on New Year's Eve - making it a vulnerable target - and some believe Ukraine would be unlikely to make the same mistake themselves.Moscow could be seeking to save face with the Russian public, which was angered by the mass loss of Russian life last week.

Ukraine is yet to comment.

I know we all question the Ukrainians KIA forRussians, but scenes like this are not uncommon on Twitter.

They are low on tanks, artillery and BMP’s , so it’s back to just throw bodies at it.

And you have to remember, no one has fought a war like this since Iran-Iraq (I'm discounting Desert Storms because of the sheer differences in quality)

That descended into essentially trench warfare with massed artillery duels and I can see this one going the same way

Well, they are talking about it

I'm not sure how long it would take to train Ukrainians to use a Challenger II, or how easy it is to keep them running, or what sort of supply chain you will need to keep them supplied

The only sensible solution for modern MBTS is the Leopards, as there are actually enough spare to make a big difference

We are looking at sending maybe 10 cr2, they are an old and frankly out of date tank but still very well protected. the only thing that has managed to destroy a cr2 in the past is another cr2 although I suspect that will change if they are sent. Could be a useful asset in the right numbers not sure 10 is enough, suspect it is a token effort to get the ball rolling for Abrahams and Leopards.

Personally I would have already started producing cr3 and maximised the production as much as possible and start throwing all our cr2s at the Ukrainians in increments.

Yeh I think you are correct not sure how easy it is to get production for cr up and running but cr3 has been in the pipeline for ages, surely there would be plans for it. Anyway I know for a fact it is much easier to build new hulls rather than renovate old ones, no doubt we will choose the hard route. We need to look at production of armoured vehicles as a massive priority for our own purpose not just Ukraines cr2, AS90, Warrior, CVRT even 432 (Bulldog) probably more all need either replacing or updating as they have just been left to rot with little to no investment due to COIN Ops being priority.

Medical evac of a wounded Ukrainian soldier in Soledar

Few points

Soledar is completely flattened, and no use to anyone

Having good medical evac is crucial for troop morale, and there is lots of evidence that its practically non-existent for Russian troops

Looks like the Ukrainians may have a rotten apple in their leadership team.

Trent Telnko:-

The Kyiv Independent are honest Ukrainian journalists, so this looks very bad.
MGen Budanov, the CO of the GUR, has a very public mess with the GUR leadership of the International Legion he need to clean up, ASAP.
It deeply hurts Ukraine's credibility.
