Missiles hit Kyiv, Kharkiv and other cities during G7 summit.

Putin likes making sure people don't forget him just as he did when UN Head Gutierrez was visiting Kyiv.

I think NATO are getting ready if not to directly intervene then to remind Russia that one stray missile in a NATO country will have consequences.

No one knows, but I think it was telling the new Major General appointed last week, in his acceptance speech stated he saw his job as building an army that could defend against and react to Russian aggression, with feet on the ground.

That would be the CGS Patrick Cordingly, the army has been set up for COIN ops for around 20 years and has suffered because of this. Warrior upgrade cancelled, CR 3 delays amongst others but the comment I suspect is more related to the announced Cuts rather than Russia.

REUTERS: A 'default' when flush with cash: Five signs Russia ain't sinking yet

LONDON, June 27 (Reuters) - Russia may have defaulted for the first time on foreign bonds since the Bolsheviks refused to pay on a vast debt pile after the 1917 Revolution, but its $1.8 trillion economy is showing no sign of sinking just yet.

The sanctions imposed by the West over Russia's invasion of Ukraine delivered the biggest external shock to Russia's economy since the 1991 fall of the Soviet Union, but the economy has - so far - been remarkably resilient.

This BBC article says it will have little economic effect for the moment. It's not about lack of Russian finance or unwillingness to pay but sanctions preventing the payment method working.

Yes the Reuters article immediately above your post reaches the same conclusion. But as we know once an account starts defaulting it burns money very quickly in penalties. What I think is telling that Russia is unwilling/unable to pay their dues and keep the war funded, presumably because the know things are about to start getting sticky in the not too distant future.

The scale of that fire is bloody frightening. Two dead thus fire but you have to fear that toll will mount. And the number of severely burnt people doesn't bear thinking about. No warning. You're pushing your trolley around, having a drink, waiting at a checkout and all hell breaks out.

There is only one thing that Putin understands, and its not sanctions.
Unfortunately if Nato responds in kind the outcome does not bear thinking about.

it sounds like Russia was targeting an oil depot quite a distance away and missed in dramatic fashion. Ukraine needs bombers sending in not more sanctions. Putin has **** all as many of us have been saying from the start. How may times has he "threatened" a response to the West and failed to do it (because he can't) every single time?!. NATO are a joke

There are at least three different Russian ammo dumps burning on twitter at the moment

Perfectly possible that Ukraine has been sitting on the location of various Russian ammo dumps that are nominally out of range and just waiting for the arrival of either the Caesar SP Guns from France or the US supplied MRLS system (both with out range Russian counter battery fire)

Also worth mentioning that Soviet doctrine (and therefore Russia unlikely to change) was for huge, very well protected ammo dumps

If Ukraine have started hitting them then.....

Plus there are also reports of Belarus ammunition being loaded and sent to Russia today, which rather does suggest the Russians might have an ammo shortage, and this won't help

Unless this was a "mistake" it is nothing more and nothing less than terrorism.

They want all Ukranians to fear for their lives through terrorist attacks. They can't take over the whole country so next best thing is to act like terrorists.

The irony of it all: the Russians wiping out cities in Syria to get rid of terrorists.

If you're going to chin him, do it with an AK-47, Žižkov. No need for a hospoda then.

AK47

Kept it in a locker under my bed alongside a tasty shotgun, but came to the conclusion it probably wasn't the best idea, so i gave them up.

If nowt else they ****** my shoulder up, and hip firing the AK was frowned upon in the range "you're not f'ing Rambo" was the phrase i think

Sanders not Cordingly no idea why I used that name anyway he made a very interesting speech again today in the Russia conference at the Land Warfare center. The British Army is mobilising not for war but to prevent it, new equipment is to be speeded up we might see movement in CR3 and Ajax etc very soon.

No explosions in this but if you have 25 minutes to spare to listen to a well informed & grown-up discussion about the war's possible development, geopolitical background/consequences etc, could do worse than giving this a watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1w6CWXy ... annel4News

The lady being interviewed (Lindsey Hilsum) I've seen on quite a few despatches from Ukraine over the past few months. Whilst she was there she was "in amongst it" and appeared to be very much in with/sympathetic to Ukrainian military & civilians.

I hadn't watched the video, Vegas, but have just seen it on another site. Was going to post but just double-checked and indeed you'd already linked it.

This, FWIW, is what I'd written for my post.

"WARNING: This video does NOT show horrific images (I'm not into that). But it does show the reality of war.

The video comes from CCTV cameras at a swimming pool close to the shopping centre in Kremenchuk.

It shows the sheer panic of people when the unthinkable occurs.

Makes me want to bloody cry in all senses of the verb."
