As per tweet, still won't be making nearly enough for an actual long conventional war based on artillery usage in the Russian-Ukrainian war

*though NATO/US armies use a lot more guided rounds, so less need for as much unguided ammo, as well as much more emphasis on air power

A follow on from what Lancaster posted on Tuesday, I think about the need to replenish weapons stocks.

“A £229 million deal has been agreed with Swedish manufacturer Saab for Next Generation Light Anti-Tank Weapon (NLAW) systems, which are assembled at Thales’ facility in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The UK has provided thousands of NLAWs to Ukraine to support the defence of their nation following Russia’s unprovoked and illegal invasion. With NLAW, a single soldier can take out a heavily protected modern main battle tank from 20 to 800 metres away.”
Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said:

“These next generation light anti-tank weapons have played a decisive role in supporting Ukraine’s army to drive back Russia’s illegal invading forces. Working with our first-class industry partners, we are continuing to fulfil our commitment to NATO by ensuring our Armed Forces will receive a steady supply of these weapons over the coming years, whilst supporting UK jobs across the length and breadth of the country.”

Saab’s President and CEO Micael Johansson said:

“Demand is increasing for anti-tank systems such as NLAW. We look forward to further strengthening our close relationship with the UK and are proud to continue delivering our proven and trusted anti-tank capability.”

You'd hope that increased armaments production is factoring in continued support for Ukraine

I think its safe to say that Russia will be switching its economy over to a war footing over the coming months (and indeed years) and the West would be able to match that quite easily without the huge change in peoples cost of living and quality of life that Russia will have to go through, but only if the plans are put in place now

It does seem that we are thankfully

It's been a great test case for many of these armaments' for the West to get through real life testing, consequently Russia have also learned a lot, but not what you'd call great, they must be looking at this and changing their war game planning against NATO in terms of how it would work out. I think Russia will be shifting more of their GPD to building new weapons, particularly missiles and other forms of warfare other than masses of battle tanks.

The West will also looking at the data and figuring ways out to improve existing weapons, plus addressing the need for battle tanks and coming up with new ideas for stopping said tanks.

I would think development of an electric warfare type weapon would be high on the list.

In all honesty, if Russia still thinks it can challenge NATO, then if its serious, it needs to be putting the entire economy on a war economy, and even then they would be miles behind

They are a middle sized power with nukes, and their famed army, air force and navy has taken a battering that will take decades to fix

And that is even assuming they are willing to accept that their army, navy and air force have taken the lessons to heart (not guaranteed)

Essentially the rebuilding after the cold war hasn't turned out to be mission capable, and a lot of that is down to how Russia is run under Putin, and that is unlikely to change so you have to question just what they can do?

It's the nature of the beast, if anyone thinks they won't rebuild............ Yes long and problematic, particularly where they go for materials, etc. will hurt them in this present guise but I'm sure even now they are planning after learning some very hard facts. For me the more interesting fact is around those who have learnt and realized that it all comes back to Putin and what do we do with that situation first.

Oh, they will rebuild, but can they absorb the lessons with the way that Putin runs things?

I'm not so sure

End of the day, the first serious army they have come across, they haven't been able to defeat, and that will be almost impossible for the Russian psyche to take in

Couple of pints to add, which are based on Ukraines numbers.

Russia has lost over 50% of its tanks including in storage. It has learnt its T80 tanks powered by turbines are next to useless. Too fuel heavy and high maintenance.
30 % of its air assets to a country with just about no airforce.

Lost Several warships to a country with no navy.

Russia was being paid around 1 billion a week (I think) prior to the war.

Whilst Russia is still getting a lot of money it’s going to reduce over time as the west withdraws from Russian gas and oil.

Russias ability to rebuild will be severely impacted by a lack of money and sanctions which will not be lifted.

Russia, hopefully, could also suffer through the technology required to update their weaponry.
They've imported most of their recent gear, but I should imagine the current climate, and deterioration in daily life would lead to a brain drain. There isn't a lot in Russia for anyone of intelligence.

Great news Lancaster.

Read this morning that 7 MLRS were destroyed by Ukraine yesterday (according to them). That’s a staggering number in one day and big news in terms of impeding the Russians.

Any other news on what’s happening on the front line? All I’ve heard about recently is that bridge getting destroyed. Seems they’re otherwise just holding positions and not making much ground?

Not a lot going on, lot of shelling but both sides reorganising after the recent Ukrainian offensives

I would imagine that when the mud hardens then you will see a Ukrainian attempt for Melitipol

Only issue is that its far too obvious but its the logical target

Take that, plus the damage to the Kerch bridge and Crimea is cut off from supply

Now I have not fact checked this, but Rob on speak the truth is saying Putin has passed a law to spend 33% of Russias GDP on the war next year.

America have spent 5% of this years military budget helping Ukraine. Russian has lost just about 50% of its army and not one American has died.

In financial terms for America that’s a good investment. Sad for Ukraines soldiers.

Said early on Putin had gone in, he is now doubling down.

At this rate in 9 months time Russia will be down to 25% of its army and the country will be skint.
