Incredible Second Half Sees the Clarets Beat Spurs

Not a criticism in the slightest and the word incredible can be used in many ways, but this is the headline used on the club’s YouTube channel.

I’ve heard this mentioned a few times and it was a truly wonderful second half, but…

Just how brilliant were we in the first half?

Yes, we barely tested Lloris, but the level of high-pressing, ball-winning and just all round dogged fight, was simply sensational.

Even the short Premier League three minute highlights reel starts in the second half. I think us Burnley fans will appreciate right now, that whilst we didn’t see shots raining in at either end, there was more than just sweat on the shirt of our players come the interval.

The team got the send off into the tunnel that they deserved and I hope it lifted them.

It was a real pleasure to watch.

Exactly right John. The pathetic BBC report described the first half as tepid and awful, probably because Burnley dominated the game, were better than Spurs and showed some great footballing skills. It was indeed a pleasure to watch, made even better with Mee's excellent goal after Spurs had controlled the first 20 minutes of the second half.....

I think you also missed out the increased pace in our passing and how much we moved Tottenham about, not seen such urgency for a long time and I think it contributed to Brownhill having a great game.

These journo's don't bother coming to the Turf, the report's already written then they just gloss over the match stats to add a few more cliches. I was convinced of this when I saw the Liverpool match report.

Got to agree jd, that first half was as good as anything i've seen for a long long time, absolutely brilliant, especially when Brownhill sat that guy down and left him rolling around on the ground. It really was a fantastic night even though I was ****** wet through for the fourth game in a raw.

I watched the whole game again this morning.

We were immense in the first half.

Spurs just got better in the second half, but we scored and they didn’t

Great post jdrobbo. Many of the newspaper reports I read- some quite lengthy- completely failed to mention, or barely mentioned, the entire first half. It is as if didn’t happen. Very bizarre, but not wholly surprising.
Fantastic performance for the whole 90 minutes.
