I'm a big Wetswood fan. But not so much recently. And I thought McNeill was woeful today, but time and time again, I see just how good he could be in the middle of the park. When he was picking it up against Leicester in the centre circle, and dancing past them, it was a beautiful sight to behold
Agree with this team. I still feel McNeil is most effective centrally. He’d be more useful than Jay Rod up top anyway and we might actually pass the ball to Wout’s feet.

Lowton for Roberts, Cork for Westwood. Cornet for JRod maybe. Lennon has been one of the best performers recently so starts wide right.

One thing is common amongst these line ups

Westwood has to be binned.

Even when Dwight missed his good chance, it came from yet another blind hoof from the crab - and if you watch closely he actually shinned it upwards (not purposely)

If Cork can't last 90 mins at least start him

Pope
Roberts Tarkowski Mee Pieters
Lennon Cork Brownhill Cornet
Rodriguez Weghorst

This team would beat Brentford, Taylor might have to come in for Pieters which would give Brentford an improved chance of scoring

Can we please just stop with this Westwood/Rodriguez experiment, they're both shite.

Pope
Lowton Tarks Mee Taylor
Cornet Cork Brownhill Mcneil
Barnes Wout

Time for Barnes to get a sniff, let's see if he's still got it, we've all seen how poor Rodriguez is, I don't need to see anymore.
how many were Brentford missing when we battered them for 45 mins during their purple patch ? I know they have Erikson now but how different are they likely to be from who they put out at the Turf ?

Goalkeeper for a start, they had the back up keeper in and he was shite, he conceded loads of goals over a period of time when he first played including three against us in his first game after their keeper was injured

Wout Cornet

Taylor doesn't look fully fit, Cork is better than Westwood and Roberts has offered borderline nothing in any game as yet. His long throws are painful. Shame really as when he was injured or in hospital we had quite a few weirdly demanding he play so I was expecting so much more from him

Roberts played very well at Brighton, home to Spurs and his debut at Arsenal. The assist at Brighton for WW goal is more what I was expecting of him. But aside from that he’s been a bit disappointing in the main. Doesn’t sound like Pieters will recover in time to me.

While the cut back was decent I gave more credit to Lennon for that move but true Roberts gets the assist due to him playing the final ball. He did nothing in the Spurs or Arsenal game that Lowton doesn't and you could argue Lowton throws it to one of his own team than aiming at the first defender on the edge of the box.

Surely the throws are more down to management instructions? Screams Dyche don't you think? I mean, it seems clear to us that they don't beat the first defenders but Tark keeps going forward for them, pretty sure that's tactical instructions. I think Roberts has added extra energy getting forward and has shown, at times, some good link up play with Lennon (is it a coincidence that Lennon has hit his best form since joining us?).

I'd like to see this team (or Westwood in for Cork, not too fussed either way). We've got a centre forward who can hold the ball up and lay it off and some pace in midfield who can score goals.

But, is one of the most important matches of the season the one to gamble on?

It was mentioned after the home game against Brentford, but the formation they played, rather than the players they had seem to make it far easier for us than expected, hence we could have been 4 or 5 up at half time.

The amount of room behind their defence was quite generous, something that Cornet & Wood exploited to perfection. Hopefully Weghorst will have similar joy.

3 I think, first choice goalkeeper Raya, best midfielder who's been missing all season DaSilva, Kristoffer Ajer who signed from Celtic.

Mbeumo was on the bench and never played a single minute either, not sure if he wasn't fit to play.

Didnt that German midfielder miss out as well? The one that’s recently had a call up

I’d like to see us try 4-3-3 / 4-1-4-1. Think it would suit Cornet better.

Is DaSilva out against us? He got a red against Newcastle two games ago, not sure what it was for though.

Brentford are beatable, they’ve been in really poor form and their win against Norwich came from two pens and a corner. Norwich also should have had a pen prior to theirs when it was 1-0. But we’ve got to find that Brighton level of performance again, do what we do best, high pressing, winning the second balls and then hope WW and Cornet produce the moments.

Cork for Westwood
Lowton for Roberts....(he just doesn't block crosses into the box)
Pieters for Taylor......he slows everything down to a crawl.

One wild card option for Saturday would be to revisit the idea of Lennon playing centrally, effectively as a partner for Weghorst with a brief to run the channels. Dyche obviously did something similar with Lennon at United (successfully) and at Leeds (less so), and given the joy that Wood had running in behind in the reverse fixture, it's possible to imagine his pace would be very helpful against Brentford's backline - particularly their left back, Rico Henry. That would allow Cornet to come in on the right hand side, and might also create more scope for Weghorst to drop deep (I think Lennon more naturally plays on the last shoulder than Cornet - Lennon has often played very high on the right of a front 3 through his career, with scope to get in behind, whereas Cornet looks to me to be more comfortable running at defenders from in front of them (reflects that Cornet is quick enough but not out and out fast, as Lennon still is).

—————————Pope
Roberts——Tarks——Mee——Pieters
Lennon——Brownhill——Cork——McNeil
———Weghorst————Cornet

Cornet must play ON THE LEFT SIDE of Weghorst in an old fashioned inside forward position. It doesn’t take much football nous to realise he is much more dangerous and much more likely to score from this position.

Here’s my team for this Saturday:
Pope
Roberts Tarkowski Mee (hopefully) Pieters
Lennon Cork Westwood
Brownhill Cornet
Weghorst
We demolished them at the Turf.
Cornet has to play, if not I would play Barnes.
I prefer to see Brownhill further up the field, he has been really disruptive and creative lately. Obviously not against Chelsea.
Pieters is a safe pair of legs! and Roberts long throws can be a proper threat in the opposition’s box.
Until we meet on Saturday UTC
The only decent thing about this part of London is Fullers Beer ( to be treasured) and the Chiswick flyover to take us home to Cornwall!

This is such an important game we need to ensure we aren’t out of the game early doors. We all know we struggle when we go behind. For that (and how poor Brentford were at the turf against 2 strikers) it has to be 4-4-2 (even though it’s not my preferred formation for us) and what we know for this one.
I’d go with:
Pope
Roberts Tarks Mee Taylor
Lennon cork brownhill McNeil
Wout Cornet

I think (hope) Roberts will fair fine against the slight drop in standard of opponent. Cornet gives us a bit of pace up top but similar to what Spice has put I’d allow him to pull more to one side, especially if Dwight tucks in has he is often asked to. I do think though as fans we need to get right behind Dwight. I see his success on the pitch being crucial to our success. We need him firing, we need him confident and thus we need to make a big effort to get behind the lad (he might not deserve that in some people’s eyes but to quote the song the turf has sung before ‘he’s one of our own’ and we need to show him the love).

If fitness allows:

Pope
Roberts Tarks (Mee) (Pieters)
Lennon Cork Brownhill Mcneil
Cornet Weghorst

I think we need Cornet starting in the games where we need to have a major attacking output.

I would also be leaning towards Westwood as that ball he plays into the channel caused the Brentford back line nightmares last time.

Ben Mee out, Vydra out (dislocated elbow) and Pieters out according to Dyche.

Yes, was always unlikely for this weekend but going to be a bit longer. They thought it was an impact injury initially but not the case.

Going off how Cornet did vs Brentford at the Turf, and with injuries taken into account:

Cornet Weghorst
McNeil Cork Brownhill Lennon
Taylor Collins JT Roberts
Pope

Time will tell as to whether Ben Mee is the key to us being defensively solid for the rest of the season, thus whether we stop up or not.

In the first half against Chelsea we defended as well as we have done all season even without Ben Mee.

The second half looked like we missed Mee's organising.

We recruited Collins (an excellent right sided centre back) to replace Tarkowski when he leaves but who is supposed to cover Mee (left sided centre back) when he is injured?

Pieters or someone from our u23 squad?
