West Indies v England 2nd test

Post by RVclaret » Wed Mar 16, 2022 1:21 pm

News just through that Craig Overton is unwell and Matt Fisher will make his test debut. I’ll admit to not knowing much about him. Surprised they didn’t go for another spinner in Parkinson after seeing images of the wicket.

Hopefully a better wicket and game than the last. Can England secure only their 2nd test win in 18? (I think)

Can’t be a worse wicket for a test match than the one in Antigua.

Crawley gone, nicked to the keeper. No idea where his off stick is again. 4/1

Usual great start by the openers. And with a rookie attack England really do need to post a total 1st innings.

Huge score last game followed by a duck is classic Crawley.

Root should open as he is usually at the crease in the first few overs.

Lees & Root hopefully things down now. Slow scoring but the key for England is to build a platform post lunch.

Are the West Indies preparing flat pitches to ensure the full 5 days and get as much money as possible from the travelling England fans?

They reckon this wicket will produce a result.
The tracks over there now don't seem anything like they were at one time.

Root lucky when on 34 wicketkeeper spilled the catch or England would be 3 down.

The way Root is batting the WI may well rue that miss.

Hard to know what to make of that Lees innings, you could argue he hung around and saw off the new ball, but having got in he'll be annoyed at not going on to a bigger score.

100 up for only 2 wickets, so England well placed to put a decent total on the board.

Yep the scores in those tests would suggest you're correct, although at least they provided some excitement as a team battled to save the match against the odds.

Root looks in good nick for a bumper 2022 to follow up last year with a fair amount of test cricket to play this year.

Good session for England 136-2 at tea, now we just need to ensure all this hard work pays off in the final session against a tiring attack.

This is a crazy stat.

Since 1 January 2021, Joe Root has scored 2,004 Test runs.

Second on the list is India's Rishabh Pant - on 1,077.

So Root has outscored his nearest rival by almost double. and that includes tours in Australia and India, arguably the 2 best countries in the game right now.

No neither did I, just highlights how much England rely on him, and as good as his form his been, we could do with a few more stepping up to the plate and assisting the skip.

200-2 which when Crawley was dismissed didn't seem likely.

He'll be gutted. Two lovely consequtive boundaries and I think the adrenaline got the better of him and he lost track of time. Two forward defensive shots from the last two balls and he probably sets himself up for a big hundred tomorrow. Such a shame as he played superbly today .

Shame for the lad, but that's where an experienced head says batten down the hatches, and let's come back tomorrow.

Being hyper critical he really shouldn't have been playing at that delivery anyway, let alone in the final over of the day, it gives the West Indies hope that a few quick wickets in the morning, and the complexion could totally change, England need to ensure all the good work put in today isn't wasted, 450 should be a realistic target on this pitch and against a relatively limited attack.

Steady first hour for England, Root & Stoles looking well set 283-3, and this could be a long day in the field for the hosts.

Have quite enjoyed the Fanfare the past couple of overs ... watching Stokes hit the ball out of the park 😁 and then the fanfare 😁

Why on earth did Sky get rid of David Gower? He is by far the best commentator around.

I was talking to Jay Rod a couple of months back when he was stuck on 99 goals. I likened it to a batsman being on 99 not out.
A ball gets delivered that he would normally send to the boundary but as he knows he only needs 1 he pokes and prods at it looking for that single to get his ton.
This is when he normally spoons one straight into the fielders hands.
Play your natural game and trust your instincts I told him.
He got his hundredth soon after. 😀

Pretty impressive that in a score of over 400 there's only been 10 extras.
