He's done his best for us, by and large, over the years
Re: Mike Dean
Mike Dean the "Rolls Royce" of Refs as opposed to Kevin Friend the "Rusty Rover" of Refs

Re: Mike Dean
Refereed a lot of big games for us over the years. Gets a lot of people's backs up but I like him - a character.
Plus, never took any **** from the usual suspects on the field.

Re: Mike Dean
Does he get everything right?
Far from it but I trust him to give a 50/50 decision against one of the big boys which many of the others won't. A lot of the so called 'good refs' are far too pally with the big names and that has to be a big worry.

I do still wonder how we never conceded a penalty at Wembley back in 2009.

I still half expect him to point to the spot after that tackle by Kalvenes even now when I see a rerun.

Re: Mike Dean
Wembley 09 he SHOULD have awarded Sheffield 2 pens and sent Carlisle off. He made that day a great day to be a claret every bit as much as Wade did! What a ref.

Re: Mike Dean
Why not?
He'd certainly do a better job than some of the bellends
doing it now, judging by some of the decisions.
Re: Mike Dean
I'm not sure how good a referee is should be based on how his wrong decisions have favoured your team. I do think Dean is one of the better referees however
Re: Mike Dean
Martin Atkinson and Mike Dean the top 2 referees for me.

Even watching replays I still expect him to give a penalty at Wembley when Kalvenes took out Walker.

best ref by a mile, it's not even close. Atkinson second and the rest are so far behind it's embarrassing

He was due to retire at the end of last season but was persuaded to do one more year.

I'd immediately replace the clown that is Mike Riley with Mr Dean and let him sort out the mess.

Re: Mike Dean
Would be fitting if his last ever Premier League game as a referee was taking charge of our last ever football game as a Premier League team. We can both bow out gracefully together at Turf Moor on the 22nd May

I noticed that he'd put some weight on when he was reffing the Southampton v Man City game over the weekend.

The ability to put on weight during a game was previously only attributed to Jon Moss.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 4:00 pmI noticed that he'd put some weight on when he was reffing the Southampton v Man City game over the weekend.

Re: Mike Dean
He will be sadly missed and when I asked him why he was retiring ,he said its because his beloved Burnley was looking like they could be relegated and he couldn't live with reffing in the Premier league without the Clarets being in it,so decided to call it a day.I thanked him for all he'd done for the Clarets over the years and wished him all the best...

Re: Mike Dean
Oliver was good when he first started, I'd put him in the top 6 but that's not saying much. He makes a lot of mistakes, really gone backwards unfortunately over the last 4 seasons

Re: Mike Dean
It'll be a sad day when Dean hangs up his whistle imo. One of the best in the last 20 odd years and for me still the best ref around by a mile.
A lot of the criticism of him seem to be from clubs who's supporters assume because they are in the PL "elite" means they should consistently get preferential treatment, which by and large to my knowledge Dean has ignored

Re: Mike Dean
What I like about Dean is he let’s hard but fair challenges go. You can tell he enjoys watching the game as much as we do so if he can let it go he does. Best ref by a mile

Re: Mike Dean
He first refereed us on 25 October 1997 at home to Bournemouth in Division 3, a game which we drew, 2-2, and Eddie Howe was one of three cautions given to Bournemouth players.
He has refereed us in all divisions except the 4th level and also in the League and FA Cup and the famous play-off final.
In total he has refereed is 51 times and we have won 16, drawn 20 and lost 15. We have scored 68 goals and conceded 69 goals.
He has cautioned 91 Clarets and dismissed Robbie Blake at Huddersfield in January 2019. He has cautioned 73 of our opponents and dismissed 5.
A real service to football over 25 years and was a really interesting guy to listen to when he spoke at our Local Referees' Association Dinner a few years ago.
I wish him well and hope that he still contributes to football in one way or another.
