Yorks win the toss and bowl with Malan, Root and Brook in the side!
A crazy decision

You have to love tiger76’s youthful innocence on cricket threads. Do you reckon 76 is his biggest score?

If it is, it would have been against his 5 year old lad in the park in a Fast Show stylee.

Yorkshire get 1 bowling point, having elected to bowl first.

Lancashire secure 3 batting points, and are currently 342-3

Roses game is not alone in terms of a dubious "put them in" call. Will Rhodes of Warwicks won the toss yesterday at Edgbaston and inserted Northants- who are currently 444-4 (off 116 overs); ouch!

What are groundsmen doing with the pitches? 4 games in play in Division 1

Lancs 412/3 vs Yorks
Northants 471/4 vs Warwickshire
Surrey 470/6 vs Kent
Somerset 453/5 vs Gloucester

1,800 runs for 18 wickets....... Looks like everybody's remembered how to bat, or the wickets are dull, batter friendly puddings.

412/3 at lunch on the 2nd day might suggest they made the wrong call by opting to bowl 1st doesn't it.

Seems to have been some sort of delusion in the air yesterday with toss-winning skippers.
Warwicks put Northants in at Edgbaston - N'hants now 471-4
Glos put Somerset in at Bristol; Somerset now 453-5
Middlesex put Notts in at Lords - Notts AO just before lunch on 415.

Derby also stuck Worcs in and they got to a half-decent 368 AO.

The cockney traffic cone shows that eventually even those who are useless will get a wicket… looks like he’s struck outside the line. Umpire pity call.

Strange tactics here from Lancs. Doesn't seem any urgency to move the game on at all.

53-2 at stumps, couldn't have gone any better for Lancashire today, huge total on the board, and a couple of useful wickets in the final session.

And that's with Jimmy going wicketless, and Parky not yet having bowled.

Must be a feeling of deja vu for Joe Root trying to hold a batting line-up together, and an awful lot will rest on his shoulders when he eventually comes to bat, get him cheaply, and the rest may fold quickly.

Hopefully get him early or he might be adding his name to the list of batsmen making big scores in this round of games.

Brook looks a real talent.

Him and Root going around 6 an over since they came together.

Yes we could do with nipping one of these out before lunch, they're beginning to look dangerous.

Hmm! probably because he's called Joe Root? close call but with no DRS he's always going to be given the benefit of the doubt.

It would certainly have gone upstairs in a test match that's for sure.

6th wicket being stubborn to say the least, Root nearing his 100, and another youngster Harry Duke providing solid support, I'll say one thing for Yorkshire they continue to produce high calibre batsmen who may well be pushing for England selection in the future.

221-5 however still 345 adrift, so a couple of quick wickets would rapidly change the picture again. New ball also due in 7 overs or so, that could prove key for Lancs.

100 for Root, and he's holding this innings together, bit like when he plays for England really, 242-5 6th wicket stand now worth over 100.

Does Harry duke think you get bonus points for number of dot balls in an innings?

The temerity to have a go at the Saffer when you’ve got this lad…. Classic Yorkshire.

Finally a breakthrough, but that stand has taken 60 overs out of the game, which now might be heading towards a draw unless Lancashire can wrap things up quickly tonight, and I assume enforce the follow on.

Parkinson could yet be the key to pushing for victory tomorrow, as the seamers aren't getting much joy out of this surface.

3 for Bailey, 3 for Parky, just maybe this game isn't dying a death quite yet, Yorkshire still in danger of following on here.

Earlier in the thread.... "Quality opening bat Lyth, proved it over a number of seasons"

10,10,2,,,, averages 37 in first class cricket...... Quality isn't really the word you're looking for Bodge is it?

Unless quality really means, below average.

Batting suddenly looks hard work for the 1st time in the match, now if we could nip Malan and Root out before lunch then it could make for an interesting afternoon.
