Jay
Vital goal today. Solid performance and he’s a committed and intelligent player.
Personally I’d like to see him sign for another year regardless of whether we are premier league or championship next season. It may well be bit part of we stay up, but I think he’s worth that new deal.
Sure someone hinted at a poor relationship between jay and a member of the back room team? Find that hard to believe…he always seems to hold himself well and seems to be a model pro.

Re: Jay
He gets unecessary stick on here. He's played well in most games this season, but like the stick that Weghorst is getting, and Vydra and Wood before that, there's a common denominator and it isn't with any of the strikers

Re: Jay
Gets a huge disservice on here and elsewhere. Saw some stat trotted out last night that he'd scored 2 in 39 games. How many of those has he started? Suspect its no more than a third.
Re: Jay
Same stats get mentioned with Vydra without acknowledging half his ‘appearances’ have been for less than 10 minutes.quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 8:41 amGets a huge disservice on here and elsewhere. In fact he now has 11 goals and 9 assists despite only starting 38 games for us.

Re: Jay
His movement is always excellent , he’s constantly trying to link play , very intelligent player who gets mainly awful or non existent service . He probs will be off to end his career but we need him in this fight and his commitment is absolute
Re: Jay
To be honest I thought Jay not for lack of effort offered very little before his goal largely down to the service provided, but he got himself in a great position to finish and after that his game improved considerably. As for Vyds Iv always been a fan offers another dimension to our game.

Re: Jay
I think his form thus calendar year has been very good and he's underrated, but I thought he was top class last night - dragged us up the park, played with a calmness no-one else apart from Tarks matched, took his goal well and linked the play.
He, Tarkowski and Cornet were by some considerable distance our best players last night, but the leaders were Tarks and Jay.

Are you including those stats into the games where he has come on for less than 10 minutes?

Re: Jay
But those goals and assists aren't only from games he's started so surely that's equally misleading? Particularly as his goals and assists per minute is better as a sub than a starter. Over the last 3 seasons he has the worst goals per 90 minutes of any of our strikers and neither Barnes or Rodriguez have been prolific. I think he played very well last night but I don't think even if he started every week we'd be able to rely on him to consistently score more than about 1 in 5.
He's scored 7 in the 38 games he's started and two of those were against lower league opposition in cup games. He's started 28 premier league games and scored 5 times.
Re: Jay
Why not mention assists too? His involvement brings a different dimension to our play and creates chances for others. This was quite evident last season when Wood hit form and his goals saved us - it was clear he enjoyed playing with Vydra. All I’m saying is that he’s been very underrated on here and when given a run he’s done well.milkcrate_mosh wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 9:36 amBut those goals and assists aren't only from games he's started so surely that's equally misleading? Re: Jay
For a ‘thick Burnley lad’ he’s incredibly intelligent as a footballer. Think that will mean, assuming he can keep fit, he could continue at a decent level for another few years… which considering how early he started playing regularly, will be a great achievement.
‘He’s one of our own’ . Definitely got my respect as a great player for Burnley. Like I say, I hope something changes and we get another year from him.

Re: Jay
Jay's injury problems have been the major factor in the reduced number of games he has played since he returned to the club. His goalscoring ability and all round teamwork have never been in doubt.Indecisive wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 1:04 amVital goal today. Solid performance and he’s a committed and intelligent player.

This has never been fully understood by some of our fans when they have written him off as a PL standard player.
The signs are that he is injury free now and the more games he plays the better it will be for the team.
Rumours always seem to increase when teams aren't doing well and I'm sure Jay is professional enough to deal with any tensions that may exist.
I hope his goal last night should cement his place in the team for the time being and with the experiment with Cornet up front failing I look forward to him working hard with Weghorst and Vydra to secure the goals we need to stay up.

Re: Jay
His goal against Utd seemed to give Jay a new lease of life, and he's got 2 goals, and 1 assist this calendar year, plus a goal in the cup against Huddersfield, and if you count cup goals he's on 7 for the season, which ain't too shabby, and his general all round play when he gets service is good enough, and he could well play a vital role in our survival battle.
That said I'm wary about offering him a new deal, come next season he'll be 33, and we really need to try and lower the average age of the squad if we can.

Unbelievable the dross Jay gets poured on here sometimes.
One of the best talents ever to come from Burnley, still a valuable player for us, and claret through and through

Re: Jay
I don't think he offered much last night aside from the goal, not his fault though, the strikers aren't given much of a chance with the service from midfield. I never thought he'd turn into an out and out targetman for high balls, surprising how his careers turned out. Definitely wouldn't be offering him a new deal though, we need significantly better.

Re: Jay
He worked so hard for the cause last night and looked our fittest player to me - at one point he was filling in at right back with Roberts nowhere to be seen. He was up and down the pitch at full steam numerous times.
If he can keep that up we can't afford to let him go.

Re: Jay
Can't believe he has been with us 3 years in his latest stay. Not sure we have made full use of him. He has something in his locker that Barnes & Wood did not have-a more polished player than both.Wish we had got him back a few years earlier. The Albion fans still worship him

He was immense on Wednesday and you could see just how much it means to him. Cajoling and encouraging plus big congrats to the other goal scorers.
He does not want to leave Burnley as a relegated team.
Sharpest striker we have.

Re: Jay
Can blame him if he is taking the chance to play football in the states for around 3 years on decent money vs being a bit part player here.

As I say, he will always be a Burnley legend, he’s the local boy that made it!
Always baffles me why some people post statements on here as fact when it's only heresay.
Now it seems you're not sure whether he is going or not?
Yes he is the local boy made good, maybe he will decide to leave or maybe not.

Re: Jay
I’ll wager a gold clock that money will influence the decision making process local lad or not, if we offer him enough he’ll stay if somebody offers him more he’ll go, it really is that simple!
Re: Jay
I Dont get some if the stick he gets, im sure some of it is just born out if a bit if jelousy.
He us a local lad done well, he is a nice lad, no chip on his shoulder , never in the papers or rumours of him causing troubles, does a lot for local charities, always happy to chat with local fans when out in the local area, always promotes the town and its people, and leads by example on and off the pitch.
Let's be honest he's living every Burnley fans/lads dream.
I've never not seen him give 110%, and that's invaluable to our fight.
He's not just a footballer from a far playing for a club paying his wages.
Every week he's playing for himself, family, friends, and those he's grown up with, and it shows.

Max - also seems a appears a really nice bloke & loving it here. Nice to see him & Jay at the end.
Re: Jay
Seems to have signed a new contract. Club teased it on Twitter just now.
Perhaps more fuel to the fire re Dyche's departure. Was rumoured to be going to MLS but an apparent change of heart after recent weeks...
