Guess the gate

Post by steve_f » Fri Apr 08, 2022 9:34 am

Have noticed lately that the interest in this comp that Tony runs has dwindled this season. Is it because the gates are being announced by the club sometimes till an age after the game may be?

I think that's been the reason Steve. I've always tried to update on the evening the match has been played but it's not been possible. I've just, last night, been able to get the attendance for the Man City game but still no idea on the Everton game. In all my 60+ years of watching the Clarets, I've never know attendances not to be announced.

Edit: I've just got hold of the Everton attendance from the BBC - so I'll update for City and Everton this morning.

Hi Tony, the Sy sports results page usually has the gate the next day, no idea where they get the figure from. I looked yesterday and it was there 19,830.

The BBC didn't have it yesterday but I've got it from there this morning.

I generally do partake in this regularly, but I think one of the reasons numbers are down is the amount of games being rescheduled, plus the constant long breaks throughout the season, the latter is why I missed entering for the City game, at least if we have regular home fixtures every 2nd week or so you know where you are, but this season it's been so erratic that folks are bound to forget sometimes, or maybe even think they've entered when they haven't.

But yes the lack of info from the club over a simple fact like the attendance is baffling, sadly this just sums up the lack of info which they now release.

It seems impossible to do nowadays. With non attending ticket holders being counted in the actual attendance. There could be hundreds of empty seats and still a capacity crowd. I used to always check the gate, it's historically been a good indicator of where we are at. Not anymore, I don't pay no attention to them. Why should I, when they don't reflect the actual attendance?

They have included non attending season ticket holders for years. Nothing has changed on that score, the only thing that has changed is the club mysteriously not announcing them.

My apologies, I thought that was a recent thing.
