Re: Name the next manager
It was Van Dijk this week who named Kompany second best ever in the PL, behind Ferdinand, who Van Dijk was doing the interview with. That seems to be the esteem in which Kompany is held, I see that as valuable as a manager in attracting players, inspiring them and teaching them.DCWat wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 11:46 pmOne of the best defenders, ever? He was good but I’m not convinced he would make the top five (maybe even top ten) defenders to have played in the Premier League, let alone the English top division or looking outside of England.
Whether or not he was one of the best defenders ever, shouldn’t be a consideration for him to be granted a work permit for a different role.

I don't know the bloke at all, but I think he might be one of those that sets a great store in what he says, and if he's said he's coming, then he's coming
Course, I might well be wrong, but that is the impression of him when he was a player

I know I was told by someone who works there yesterday that something might happen today.

Big Dunc can only wind the players up for so long. Unless he takes a tactician with him as coach.
The Everton fans I speak to wanted him gone after our game. They think he's more there to appease fans with the ex player link than what he offers as a coach.
Although he did turn down the opportunity of going to Madrid with Carlo. Not sure if he was coach or bodyguard?

Time is moving swiftly, swiftly on with an absolute lorry load of stuff to sort out. If he can’t be in the building in the next couple of days we should look elsewhere. We could be waiting on him for weeks more and then he leaves us even in further in the lurch by taking a gig elsewhere.
We barely have a squad, barely have any coaching staff and we have lots of contract issues to sort out with the remnants of what is left over from last season. This has dragged on long enough.

Back in after a long weekend, will attempt to provide a bit of clarity on Burnley & Kompany. Everything pointing to him and nothing to suggest things have gone south so working on a no news is good news at the mo. But doesn't seem close to an announcement. #twitterclarets

I’d much rather it all be done and dusted now, but there are multiple suggestions he’s already working so I think everyone just needs to calm down a bit.

Re: Name the next manager
It could well be the case Arise (r.e, it being an administrative formality/club delay to get media stuff sorted for an ‘unveiling’ etc), but in the absence of knowledge, and with the multitude of very important stuff to sort out with our first team, I think we cannot hang about too long. There is absolutely nothing stopping Kompany taking a gig elsewhere if something more appealing (Monchengladbach etc) presents itself whilst we’re waiting for X, Y, Z.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 12:44 pmWhat if it’s the club moving slowly and not Kompany?

I just think that unless we have an absolute signed, sealed guarantee on Kompany coming in, that the club needs both a cut-off point and a plan B (we may well do, you’d hope so).
Re: Name the next manager
The concern is that we are a week and a half post relegation and we’ve heard literally zilch from the club, and that we are less than 3 weeks from returning to pre season training, with half a squad and no manager. While I do think Kompany will join, it’s also a bit worrying why it’s taking so long (suggestions a deal was agreed 5 days ago).arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 12:44 pmWhat if it’s the club moving slowly and not Kompany?

The club haven't even released their retained list 9 days after the season.
BlakesBoots suggested 4 days is the proper procedure.

Re: Name the next manager
It’s absolutely astonishing that nine days after the last game we have not heard one word from the club. We’ve allowed Tanya Bardsley to tell the world that Phil’s leaving, there have been suggestions that Dale Stephens hasn’t been offered anything. Both those were obvious but not a word.
We used to announce the academy retained list around early April. We know it’s been done with some of the young players leaving immediately and some continuing to play but again not a word.
What a shambles.

The only rational explanation is that they wanted to get the new manager in and announced first. Clearly there’s been a delay in this, possibly work permit related, who knows. Any update on that front?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 1:31 pmIt’s absolutely astonishing that nine days after the last game we have not heard one word from the club. Wouldn't surprise me if Kompany has been in charge for 5 days and the club haven't bothered announcing it
Re: Name the next manager
It could be as I said on the other Kompany thread yesterday? He probably wants assurances prior to agreeing terms. These assurances will more than likely be linked to Pace securing additional funding which he doesn’t seem to have achieved thus far.
Cannot see what else could be holding the deal up other than Kompany mulling over better options?

Re: Name the next manager
We’ve not had a word on a new manager since the day Dyche was sacked other than Michael Jackson confirming he was doing the next match.
I’ve no idea what’s going on in terms of anything but appointing a Belgian manager was always subject to us getting a work permit.

Re: Name the next manager
I personally can’t see that to be the case. Securing of additional funding is too arbitrary, who knows when and if it may happen. And I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t agree to this with pre season 3 weeks away.Jamesy wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 1:48 pmIt could be as I said on the other Kompany thread yesterday? Purely going off information from CT, Boden and Nixon - it seems that the whole work permit issue is what is holding it up. Whether that’s with himself or his staff.

I've been as critical of Pace and his lot as anyone but from the outside looking in it does seem most likely that the delay is just administrative.
What's absolutely rotten as others have said is the communication. As a wise man once said "The really important thing is to keep the communication. We have to do a really good job of sharing things that are happening so they feel part of it"

Re: Name the next manager
From Alex James’ latest piece in the Lancs Live:
‘Burnley remain set to appoint Vincent Kompany as their new manager although details still need to be finalised.
The Belgian remains likely to take over at Turf Moor but nothing is expected to be confirmed today and it may well stretch into next week. Reports have suggested Kompany and any potential backroom staff he wants to bring with him from Anderlecht require work permits for the UK and while the Clarets remain confident of securing the 36-year-old, any announcement is not imminent.’

The communication has never been as bad, the first week he couldn't stop talking, once the negative press came about the finances, Pace has barely said a word about anything. His Twitter account isn't even used.
