Whether or not you believe he is the Son of God, is a matter for discussion. Though obviously not on here. But there's no reasonable doubt that he existed. you might as well argue that Mohammed didn't exist.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 10:21 amI think we are looking at more days than that DD

Its not a matter for discussion
He existed, and he was as much the son of God as I am
God doesn't exist, and you may as well worship the moon and the sun
I for one will be awaiting the coming of Mithras with interest, and he'll really kick off when he finds out the Christians have nicked all his festivals

Athletic reporting we are in talks with Kompany and he’s thought to still be up for the challenge despite relegation. Part of a 3 man shortlist. They say we expect an appointment by the weekend.

We usually come back at the beginning of July but I reckon that is more likely to be mid June with the early start.RVclaret wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 10:20 amI'd guess pre season will kick off maybe even late June this year then. We really could do with a manager announced by the weekend. Needs to start making inroads with recruitment including freebies, who others probably are already speaking to, but we have no chance on before a new man comes in.

Re: Name the next manager
1/7 on Sky at this stage (when we know, or assume, an appointment is imminent) sounds a done deal to me. Something surely must have shifted in the last 24 hours to reach that figure?
I find it an exciting appointment if it happens. I'd far rather a bit of an exciting gamble like Kompany to a 'tried and tested' type who has been around the ringer. He's clearly au-fait with introducing youth, and that is where we are at I think. I am not convinced though that Kompany needs to be promised money to come here - he's hardly rolling in it at Anderlecht and the chances of bringing a club up from the Championship and returning to the North West represents a real CV builder in a way competing for a top three finish in Belgium probably doesn't.

Sounds like his time at Anderlecht has got a bit tense with expectations getting unrealistic in the boardroom, so it is plausible but equally plausible is using us as a bargaining chip, e.g. for some transfer funds. It’s all about money now in the game, if we didn’t know it before, we do now.

Having said that, does Pep let players with real potential go out on loan?jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 10:47 amWhat's the maximum you can take from one club in the Championship? Doesn't the rules change also with the number of players a club can actually loan out to others from next season

I think the hope is that the 'Kompany-factor' would change that policy. Not suggesting we could get the next Foden, but maybe that next tier down who are on the outskirts/cup team for them. Would be a decent, cost-effective way to get the age down!

I read a report recently suggesting they were set to allow McAtee out on loan this season with Swansea interested. He looks a talent. I’d imagine Delap may finally need some first team football too. Especially now chances there are even more limited with Haaland / Alvarez signing.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 10:52 amGood question. Re: Name the next manager
Think the real urgency with a new manager appointment is with dealing with players out and who to retain. We can’t rebuild until the new man has decided on this and it lets these players move on quickly and us.

Re: Name the next manager
I'm not overly excited by Kompany to be honest, but he might bring with him a top class coaching system.
That's our best hope.
That's our best hope.
Re: Name the next manager
We need better than someone who struggled to get double figures in League One last year. He's another targetman too from what I've seen, we need some pace.
Re: Name the next manager
Odds of 1/7 mean that the bookies have taken all the money on Kompany that they want to.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 10:43 am1/7 on Sky at this stage (when we know, or assume, an appointment is imminent) sounds a done deal to me. As for why they don't want any money, it could be because they suspect Kompany is about to be appointed, or it could be because other people have heard rumours and lumped on and the bookies don't want to risk losing on this particular market.
It doesn't mean that they know he's about to be appointed. If they knew or suspected that, they wouldn't offer odds at all.

I’ve just dug out the vote we did back in 2012 as to who people wanted to replace Howe. The Steve Davis shown was the first, then manager at Crewe.
25.1% - Mick McCarthy (463 votes)
11.7% - Paolo Di Canio (216 votes)
7.8% - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (145 votes)
7.0% - Steve Davis (130 votes)
6.8% - Billy Davies (125 votes)

0.8% - Paul Cook (14 votes)
0.6% - Warren Joyce (12 votes)
0.5% - Steve Lomas (10 votes)
11.1% - Others (206 votes)
Re: Name the next manager
My record on approving/disapproving incoming managers is also pretty bad but I literally sank to my knees in front of Sky Sports News on my TV and begged the telly for this not to be happening when it announced Brian Laws was almost certainly going to be replacing Coyle.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 11:21 amI don't think I've ever chosen the right manager when down to the last 3 or 4 on our shortlists, and the chosen ones have all done very well bar Laws.

I seem to remember Steven Pressley being heavily in the betting for it but he's not on that list (probably because nobody voted for wanting him!!!).

I’ll have been for Micky Phelan. Sen Dyche I remembered as a good centre half who I hated us playing against (but wish we’d sign) but I knew nothing of him as a manager other than he did a stint with the England Under21 (or 23) setup.
