Kristoff knows what he's talking about
Sounds promising. It might just be a lazy link because he's also Belgian, but if he could bring Defour with him it'd go a long way to getting the fans onside and would give some good insight into the club.

Nothing new there, mentions the athletic article as it's source.

Well, if it is Vince, he should have a good idea as to what he's getting into. Back in 2017, he graduated with an MBA from Manchester Business School.

Fab Romano saying Kompany is leaving Anderlecht with a new manager already coming in. Says Kompany has two proposals from abroad. I guess us and Gladbach from reports.

Whoever it is, it should be easier to win more games in the Championship than the PL. So that might actually be a plus for anyone considering the move.

Kompany is a strange one for me. He definitely has some great links which should help with recruitment.

But his managerial experience is next to nothing. Similar to Dyche it is a bit of a leap of faith and hope he comes good.

I think it’s probably a risk worth taking as two or three top signings (that I think Kompany could bring) usually result in a team being in and around the top 4-5 in the league.

Kompany seems a strange gamble hoping that his playing experience and reputation/City links will get us a few breadcrumbs.

I get that he helped Anderlecht recover from 8th to 3-4th but ultimately they're still by far the biggest and most well-resourced side in Belgium. Wholly different battle to a cash strapped side facing financial uncertainty, squad overhaul, and academy issues. If he's the new manager I'll welcome him with open arms and give him my blessing and backing, as I would whoever we pick, but I genuinely think when you look at achievements to relative resources Duff might have been better- and still wouldn't come with the necessary experience or profile.

Still if it's him, good luck Vincent.

This would be a pretty exciting appointment for me. He's always come across intelligent and thoughtful. His wife is from Manchester I believe, so familiar to the surrounding area, no settling in issues. Good contacts particularly at City, which could come in very useful given our financial constraints. Done okay at Anderlect, probably as expected but hard to judge with little understanding of the current situation of league and clubs in Belgium. By no means the finished article and I think we provide him a good opportunity to continue to develop as a manager close to his family home in the North West. There's always a risk it might not work out and he has a fair re-build on his hands but I would be happy to see him appointed.

BFC needs someone on his way up, in his career, rather than an established name or someone at the end of his career. VK sounds an exciting prospect and might convince VW and Cornet to stay, as well as Mee. He will also attract players-something that we have missed for a number of years

Doesn’t seem too far off there recent finances suggest they are still the most wealthy club in the league. They recently had a 93m injection into the club in October.

Club Brugge are the best team and have been for a while, they won the league recently due to the bullshit league split. Union finished top of the league but didn't win it... awful format

Duff hasn't got the name to attract players, or the contacts in the game Kompany should command, and right now that's what we need, if he can bring in a couple of City loanees, or maybe a bargain or two from Belgium all the better.

Defour as his number 2. or in a coaching role wouldn't go amiss either.

I'm not sure the finances in Belgium will be much different from Championship level, so not necessarily the big drop it might seem.

Anderlecht team wage bill is estimated at less than £20M.

Glad to see that one isn't quoting The Athletic article too, but seems to have it's own sources.

The geography of Burnley is probably key to this with his family all from the area.

I know the closest comparison from a Burnley perspective is probably Chris Waddle (!!!), but I cannot help but be a bit excited by this.

Big difference to Waddle is Kompany already has managerial experience, whereas Waddle went straight into a player-manager role with us without any prior experience whatsoever.

There's an element of risk involved, but for me it's a risk worth taking, rather than going down the usual manager route (Wilder) et al.

Totally agree, it shows a bit of imagination and will, I think, get the fans onside. This is needed considering the concerns the majority of us have about the direction of the club, it will generate positive media interest in us for the coming season and get that 'lets go for it' feeling amongst the fanbase.

let's face it, every managerial appointment carries risk - some thought Guardiola was at City..!!

But if our ambitions are more towards Kompany than say Wilder or similar, can only be a good thing and considered a pro-active move. I for one hope it comes off and can give us much needed kudos and profile as we try to climb back up the ladder.

Exciting times!
