This could be a chicken/egg situation.
Mr Pace trying to secure outside funding to guarantee VK a decent transfer kitty. VK not committing to the job unless funds are available…..investors not committing until VK is appointed.
Just my thoughts.

The little mention of Lewandowski, have you heard that from a trusted source?CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Tue Jun 14, 2022 9:51 amKompany in, Premier League agree to pay us £100m compensation, new investors and 10 new players including Lewandowski who is said to like the challenge of the Championship.
It's just that quite a few on here have a trusted source and none of them have mentioned Lewandowski.
I personally don't have a trusted source.

Re: Name the next manager
Been flat out since 6.30am this morning so had my first log on just now to read all the news about the appointment, video clips from the press conference etc.
Oh.
I imagine we will appoint VK, but probably 2 days before the season starts.
Then we'll start to think about the fact we don't actually have a team....
Isn't it all so very exciting!

Re: Name the next manager
It's nailed on that you've got Kompany, so probably nothing to worry about.
The work permit thing is odd, though. Tomasson has a UEFA Pro Licence. It looks like Kompany has the same. Apparently Tomasson was decided upon towards the end of last week, at which point an offer and application for a work visa will have been made. Assuming Rovers aren't foolish enough to announce his appointment without an approved work visa, that tells me a fast-tracked work permit should only take a few days or so. So the delay in the work permit surely can't be down to qualifications... can it? I don't know how long this has been rumbling on for you, but it seems like weeks.
Nixon is repeatedly telling everyone to calm down, chill, don't be an idiot, and so on. But then he's been doing that regarding Kirchner and Derby for the last few weeks! Personally I don't think it can be anything to do with a work permit, but whatever it is will probably be never known. I think it'll sort itself out.

Re: Name the next manager
Kompany has generated interest amongst the fans and is a big name signing. The club will see it as a statement of intent and a PR opportunity.spt_claret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 14, 2022 9:51 amApart from Burnley fans the general chatter I've encountered amongst fans is "big gamble, might get some City freebies, not really done much". Pundits and analysts are a little more positive which is encouraging, the analysis of Kompanys tactics recently was a brilliant read, does seem similar to Dyche pre-2020 (ie when we actually did play decent efficient football) just with slower buildup and an unusual role for the holding midfielder. But it's on fairly small and niche sports media sites.
Conventional wisdom isn't always right, nor is popular consensus, so I'm not placing too much stock in wider fan reaction, just making the point that while the Kompany rumour mill does get us a paper article every few days I'm not really seeing much positive sports buzz outside the Burnley bubble. Not seeing negativity either for what it's worth. More a reaction of interested bemusement.
It has generated some positive media interest at a time when almost everything is negative. It is largely seen by fans as progressive appointment
I agree there is also an element of "meh", and what's he done so far and who cares about Burnley.
It could be Chris Waddle all over again but in terms of the club this is an appointment based on name and not management record.
Anyway it seems to be done now and has already been covered by Sky, the BBC, the Independent, The Telegraph etc.

I think every appointment carries a risk but someone who likes to play football on the ground, can attract players, wishes to bring in younger players and seems to be on the same page as Pace with regards to vision, sounds good to me.

Are you ever happy? You wanted Dyche out and you got your wish, now you're already doubting Kompany before he's even got his feet under the table, just give him a fair crack of the whip, and you never know you might be pleasantly surprised.

I don’t get the comparisons with Waddle. He couldn’t be arsed. He was never really interested. He signed some appalling players, one of whom I was surprised was actually a footballer.
Just give the guy some time to work with what he has, bring in what he believes is required and see if the signs are promising. It’s a big rebuild. He’ll need time and support.

If you want to play the prettiest football you have to have the most money.
Peter Crouch played for so long in the Premiership because although Lionel Messi could outplay anyone in the world he couldn't outjump a 6 foot 7 inch elbowy Centre Forward who knows how to head a ball.
